At a time when wellness trends flood social media feeds, true holistic health goes beyond surface-level fixes. In an effort to explore the deeper layers of wellbeing, Mystic Mag conducted a special feature gathering insights from experts across various fields—yoga instructors, meditation coaches, aromatherapists, life coaches, and dieticians. This article, “Mind, Body, and Spirit: How Holistic Experts Approach Total Wellbeing,” takes a thoughtful look at how the mind, body, and spirit are deeply connected. Our contributors offer practical, real-life advice on achieving harmony among these three essential pillars, while also shedding light on the common missteps people make along the way. Whether you’re new to holistic living or seeking balance, their guidance offers a grounded starting point.
QHHT® Level 3 Practitioner Deborah Picou: “Simply, Live in Love”
Deborah Picou, QHHT® Level 3 practitioner, shares her insights on how individuals can balance all three aspects of wellbeing:
“Live in love! Put simply, that is all you need to know. If you know that, everything else just flows naturally. Be love. Give love. Receive love. All that I will now share with you is the instinctive outcropping of this simple way of life. It’s why you are here. Everything else is just theatre. You don’t need a checklist. You don’t need to remember.
So here is what you will be drawn to if you live in love: simplify your life, regular mindful fun exercise, create heart-brain coherence, quality sleep, mindful meditation, healthy eating, spending mindful time in nature, be present, connect with loved ones, give your brain some quiet time, challenge yourself mentally, feed your soul, journal, release emotional traumas, love yourself and others, accept yourself and others, live in gratitude, be the person you’d like to be with, engage in activities that bring you a sense of purpose or spirituality, do yoga, Qi Gong, breath work, paint, draw, sculpt, dance, garden, enjoy a hobby, spend time with an animal, be a good friend, care for those in need, listen to what is behind what people are saying through their words or actions, maintain good posture, choose to live with a healthy weight, manage your stress levels, tidy up your environment, keep your promises, tell the truth, be kind, encourage others, be on time, be reliable, be purposeful, be motivated, be consistent, be persistent, be disciplined, consider the needs of others, live with appropriate boundaries and unplug from technology often.
All of these body, mind, and spirit wellness suggestions are brilliant activities that help you to open your heart to love, both giving and receiving. In the end, all that matters is did you love and were you loved. “
Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Tara Louchery: “Cultivate Healthy Habits for the Body”
Tara Louchery, Licensed Clinical Psychologist, answers how a holistic approach helps in healing trauma and fostering self-acceptance:
“A holistic approach to wellness is optimal, as it addresses all aspects of a person – physical, mental, and spiritual. When a practice benefits one area, it positively influences the others, fostering overall wellbeing.
It’s crucial to cultivate healthy habits for the body, including proper nutrition, hydration, rest, and exercise. Consistency in these areas also supports mental/emotional wellbeing. Intentionally processing thoughts and feelings with self-compassion creates a foundation for stable mental wellness. Understanding the nervous system and how to regulate it, along with spending time in mindful awareness, are key to spiritual wellbeing.
A holistic perspective becomes even more critical when healing from trauma and cultivating self-acceptance. Traumatic events activate our nervous system’s defenses, aiming to minimize pain and maximize safety. Ideally, after the event, we can calm ourselves and process the emotional impact. True resolution takes time and intentional processing.
However, we don’t always complete this cycle. Avoidance of pain is natural, and sometimes we bury trauma and emotional pain within the body. This ongoing avoidance requires energy. To heal trauma, we must practice mindful awareness, stepping back from the mind’s chatter.
Here’s one practice to try: Find a comfortable seated or lying down position. Bring attention to your body’s alignment and allow yourself to settle. Notice the rhythm of your breath as you inhale and exhale. Take three deep breaths, inhaling deeply through the nose and exhaling fully through the mouth.
Perform a body scan, bringing awareness to each area of your body, head to toe, directing breath to each area, releasing tension. Observe your thoughts and feelings. Create an internal space for yourself, placing each thought on a mental shelf, assuring yourself you can return to it later. Give yourself permission to let go of everything for a few moments. Step back from thoughts and rest in awareness, in the energy of your consciousness.
Repeat this process of settling and stepping back as needed. It’s natural for thoughts to return; with practice, it becomes easier to notice and step back. Even dedicating 5 minutes to this practice can enhance wellbeing.”
Registered Reiki Professional, Jesse Mendoza: “Physical Health Can Tell You a Lot”
Jesse Mendoza, a registered Reiki professional, reveals how maintaining physical health supports mental and spiritual wellbeing:
“We have so many parts that make up an individual in this human experience. We shouldn’t neglect any of them and each of them can affect the other parts. A lot of us in this work understand that energy and emotion get stuck in the body, but we forget that moving and using the body can be an effective tool in releasing that trapped energy. We use Reiki to do it, and the client just needs to lay on a heated massage table. I know that when I am upset, going for a walk always clears my mind and releases strong feelings. It gives me a clearer perspective on the situation. On the other hand, when I consistently walk, dance, or go to the gym, I don’t get upset as much and my meditations are clearer. I am sure I am not the only one to witness this phenomenon.
Your physical health can tell you a lot about your mental and spiritual wellbeing. Each ache and pain, disease or ailment has an energetic component. I find a lot of them are quite literal. A pain in the neck or gluteus often means you’ve let someone bother you or issues with feet and ankles tend to mean someone is having difficulty moving forward in life. So, stretching the aching muscles with an intention of releasing those emotions could be an effective cure for that.
These amazing physical bodies we possess are our soul’s last attempt to get our attention and guide us to do the physical, emotional and spiritual work it longs for. We need to keep them healthy so that we can get those messages and understand and act on them.”
Founder & Transpersonal Healing Practitioner Victoria Amador: “We Prepare Clients for Deep Healing Work”
Victoria Amador, Founder & Transpersonal Healing Practitioner, explores the Body-Mind Connection through a Transpersonal Approach to Clarity and Healing.
“As a transpersonal healing practitioner, I’ve witnessed how conscious dietary choices lay the foundation for emotional and spiritual breakthroughs. At Soul Healing Tribe, we prepare clients for deep healing work—whether through meditation, dreamwork, or sacred plant allies—by guiding them toward intentional eating that enhances their ability to access deeper states of awareness.
Preparing the Body for Transformation
When the body isn’t weighed down by stimulants or heavy foods, its energy can be directed toward emotional insight and spiritual growth. Scientific research, including Dr. Bessel van der Kolk’s trauma studies and Dr. Stanislav Grof’s transpersonal psychology, confirms what ancient traditions have long understood: the body stores experience beyond conscious awareness, influencing our healing journey.
Conscious Eating for Emotional Balance
Drawing from traditional wisdom, we recognize how specific organs process emotions:
Liver – Anger & frustration
Stomach – Emotional digestion
Intestines – Absorbing life lessons & releasing emotional waste
For deep healing, we recommend:
✔ A 3-day cleanse of light, nutrient-rich foods
✔ Avoiding processed foods, alcohol, and stimulants
✔ Staying hydrated with pure water
✔ Extending preparation (7-21 days) for intensive healing
Creating Space for Deeper Awareness
Mental clarity and spiritual insight emerge when we minimize interference. Like a still pond revealing its depths, reducing distractions—through mindful eating, silence, and conscious choices—heightens intuition and emotional resilience.
This isn’t about perfection but intention. When we nurture our bodies with awareness, we unlock the potential for profound transformation.”
Conclusion
Achieving total wellbeing is not about perfection, but about aligning the mind, body, and spirit in a sustainable, intentional way. As our experts suggest, it’s often the simplest practices—like mindful breathing, nourishing foods, or daily reflection—that bring the most meaningful shifts. Mystic Mag’s exploration of holistic wellness shows that a balanced approach is personal and ever-evolving. With expert guidance and a willingness to listen inward, anyone can begin to move toward a healthier, more connected life. Let this be a reminder that wellness is a journey—one that thrives on awareness, self-care, and compassion for the whole self.
