Transitioning from a stock market trader to a breathwork and mindfulness expert is a unique journey, and Tim Van der Vliet’s path is no exception.
In an interview with MysticMag, Tim shares how after his stock market career, he found himself at a crossroads until a friend’s suggestion led him to publish a book with Hay House UK. This unexpected venture opened doors to teaching and eventually developing his own TT Breathing technique, which combines deep breathing exercises and cold exposure.
Now, Tim is dedicated to instructing others in his innovative approach, helping them achieve higher states of consciousness, improved health, and enhanced performance in just a few minutes a day.
What led you to transition from being a stock market trader to specializing in breathwork and mindfulness?
You could say I was called.
After my stock market career, I had no clue what would be my next step. Then a friend of mine said that I should put my quotes in a book, and she would design it. That led to my book which was published by Hay House UK. I thought that was that and then Hay House told me that it was time to get on stage and teach.
5 years later I started doing deep breathing breathwork exercises and added cold exposure. This led me again to teach in a different way. A few years after that I developed/designed my own breathing technique called TT (from Tim’s Techniques). Now I am instructing my own TT Breathwork and Cold Exposure Instructors.
Can you explain the core principles behind your TT Breathing technique and its benefits?
The core principle is that with little time you can still do a lot. My techniques are different from contemporary techniques because the breath is held on the breath in. You can use TT Breathing for a 5-minute reset or a prep for an important meeting. Just to get out of your head and into your body in a short time. Stop thinking in a few minutes time. Yet longer TT sessions create a whole new level of depth and sometimes people get into such a deep state of relaxation that a new higher consciousness would be the best word to describe it.
The benefits are that TT breathing is:
– a cardiovascular training
– increases red blood cell count (equals energy and performance)
– increased lung capacity
– Inflammation down
– being able to calm down in stressful situations
– resets the nervous system so afterward you are calmer and more energetic
– better health and oxygen distribution
– reach higher states of consciousness
How does your approach to breathwork differ from traditional breathing techniques, and what makes it particularly effective?
Holding the breath in is what makes my technique very effective. The sensations and results you get in 5 minutes time usually take 20 minutes with other techniques. Highly efficient in this fast-paced world.
What challenges do participants typically face when starting your breathwork programs, and how do you help them overcome these?
Apart from learning my techniques and all other techniques that I practice and become an overall breathwork specialist people have shared three things.
1) 80% of participants have shared that finally, they are able to have a morning routine consisting of movement, breathwork, and cold exposure, and stick to it.
2) By understanding the science you will be truly engaged in the magic of what our bodies and minds are capable of. This information gives you peace of mind and you are able to feel better about what is happening in your body because you know what is going on.
3) Integration of breathwork in everyday life. Although you can use TT for long and intense sessions it is mostly used in everyday life. After my training you will know what to do when and use my techniques in everyday life, even breathing in public spaces.
Could you share a success story of how your breathwork techniques have significantly impacted an individual’s life?
There are so many.
A woman of 76 who got over her autoimmune illness, dropped weight (at 76!) and is feeling better than ever in her life.
A child of 5 years old that had chronic bronchitis and the whole family didn’t sleep. The dad had tried every breathing technique and with TT5 his daughter fell asleep after 3 minutes the whole family got rest because they could sleep again and because they had fewer worries about their child having respiratory problems.
A woman in Germany got over her chronic fatigue syndrome with my techniques.
