Meet Shirley Barroy, a gifted psychic and medium whose journey began in childhood with vivid encounters of elemental beings and blossomed into a powerful reconnection with spirit after becoming a mother. Drawing on her French roots and deep intuitive gifts, Shirley offers grounded, heart-centered guidance through psychic readings and mediumship, helping others find clarity, healing, and a sense of connection—whether in one-on-one sessions or joyful, spirit-infused events like Girls Nights and Hens Nights. In this interview for Mystic Mag, she shares her path, her process, and what it’s really like to work with the spirit world.
When did you first realize you had psychic or mediumship abilities, and how did that awareness shape your path?
I first realised I had psychic and mediumship abilities when I was really young. I used to feel the presence and energy of elemental beings—like gnomes ,especially before bed. It was not as magical as it sounds. Around the age of 13, I began reading tarot cards using the Tarot de Marseille as I come from France. It felt so natural, like reconnecting with something ancient and familiar. But not long after, my dad shut all of that down, and I stopped everything for years.
It wasn’t until I became a mother that everything started to awaken again—stronger than ever. My intuition deepened, and my connection to spirit became undeniable. Becoming a mum really opened the door to rediscovering and embracing this part of myself.
How do psychic readings and mediumship differ in your practice, and what can someone expect from each experience?
In a psychic reading, I tune into your energy, your emotions, patterns, and the path you’re currently on. It’s very grounded in the here and now, and often focuses on areas like love, work, health, or life direction. I might use tools like tarot or oracle cards to help bring through messages, clarity, or guidance.
Mediumship, on the other hand, is about connecting with loved ones who have passed. I open up to the spirit world and serve as a bridge between you and those on the other side. These sessions often bring healing, comfort, and validation that our loved ones are still with us in spirit.People are often surprised by how emotional and uplifting both experiences can be. Psychic readings can feel empowering, while mediumship sessions are often deeply healing and filled with love.
What is your process when connecting with a client’s energy or spirit guides during a session?
When I begin a session, the first thing I do is ground myself with my meditation Sitting in Power and create a sacred space. I take a moment to tune in, set the intention to be of service, and invite in my client’s highest guidance, whether that’s through their energy, their spirit team, or loved ones in spirit.
If it’s a psychic reading, I connect to the client’s energy field. I often feel into their emotional state, patterns, or areas that might need clarity or healing. Sometimes I’ll receive images, words, sensations, or just a deep knowing. If I’m using cards, they act like a mirror, helping to bring what I’m sensing into focus.
When it’s a mediumship session, I raise my vibration and invite loved ones in spirit to step forward. I blend with their energy and receive impressions, memories, personalities, messages—that I share with the client. Spirit usually brings through exactly what the person needs to hear in that moment, whether it’s comfort, closure, or confirmation that they’re not alone. It’s always a co-creative experience between me, the client, and spirit. I trust what comes through and stay present with whatever unfolds.
Are there any common misconceptions people have about psychic readings or the spirit world that you’d like to clear up?
One big one is the idea that psychic readings predict a fixed future. In truth, a psychic reading reflects your current energy and the direction things are heading if nothing changes. But you always have free will. Readings are about empowerment, not control—they’re meant to help you make aligned choices, not feel boxed in.
Another common myth is that Mediumship is scary or dark. For me, Mediumship is filled with love, healing, and peace. The spirit world isn’t something to fear, it’s a continuation of life in another form. Loved ones come through to reassure, guide, and support, not to haunt or scare.
And finally, some people think you have to be “special” to connect with spirit or intuition. I truly believe we all have intuitive abilities—it’s just a matter of remembering, trusting, and practicing. My role is simply to help others reconnect with that part of themselves.
You offer events like Girls Nights and Hens Nights—how do you adapt your spiritual work in a more social, lighthearted setting?
I love bringing spiritual connection into fun, social settings like Girls Nights and Hens Nights! These events are all about creating a magical experience that’s uplifting, empowering, and full of good vibes.
In those settings, I adapt my approach to keep things light, warm, and engaging. The readings are usually shorter—just enough to spark insight, laughter, or even a few happy tears. I still tune into each person’s energy or messages from spirit, but in a way that feels relaxed and supportive, not too heavy or intense.
Sometimes I bring along oracle cards, fun intuitive games, or little rituals that get everyone involved. It’s a beautiful way to mix connection with celebration—and people are often surprised by how deep it can still go, even with a glass of bubbly in hand!
At the heart of it, it’s about creating a space where women can feel seen, celebrated, and spiritually nourished—even in a party atmosphere.
