Renowned astrologer Patrick Arundell has been captivating audiences with his insightful horoscopes and astrological interpretations for decades. From an early fascination with planetary patterns to a successful career in retail management, Patrick’s journey ultimately led him to pursue astrology full-time in 1995. With his work featured in major publications like the Daily Mail and Metro, he blends traditional astrological wisdom with a modern, relatable approach. In this interview for Mystic Mag, Patrick shares his path to astrology, his methods for making it accessible to a broad audience, and his thoughts on how the field is evolving in the digital age.
What initially sparked your passion for astrology, and how did it evolve from a personal interest into a full-time career?
My first classical LP was the Planets by Holst. Little did I know at the time that the themes for this were based on Astrology not, Astronomy. I got this when I was about 14. It was stunning then, and remains a masterpiece.
At school, there were two friends who sat either side of my whose birthday’s flanked mine, so the 20th, 21st and 22nd of January, this synchronicity also piqued my interest. Astrologers are often drawn to patterns like this.
Being an early born Sun Aquarius in the 3rd House of journalism but with my Moon, Venus and Chiron also in the sign, but in the 4th House of home, family and emotions, I have always been interested in why people feel and experience life like they do. Aquarius energy is detached and analytical and a mix of progressive and traditional, but 4th House energy is more feelings orientated, so the blend of the two, was perfect for an astrologer.
I entered into a Retail Management scheme but found myself reading the Daily Horoscope in the Daily Mail, written by Patric Walker. in my free time. I went on to obtain a Diploma in Distribution and by the age of 28 I had 800 people working for my and controlled a large group of stores in North West England. I found managing people, was something I enjoyed and I would often speculate what their Zodiac signs were, and realised that astrology was becoming more and more important to me.
In terms of the retail, I had success in improving profit and sales in all the stores I ran, but the company I worked for there decided to merge with a bigger rival. I was offered a chance to continue or to take a two year redundancy package. I chose the latter, moved home, and started a business consultancy. However, I also started studying astrology in greater depth. I was coached by a teacher from the Faculty of Astrological Studies in London.
However. the Astrology was becoming a clarion call, and in 1995 started working with Astrology full time.
How do you approach interpreting astrology in a way that makes it engaging and relatable to a broad audience?
Horoscopes offer people the chance to get a brief reflective pit stop. People will read for their Sun sign, Ascendant or Moon or for those of people they are involved with. I don’t use too much astrological jargon and give people a flavour of the big themes going on each day. They are not designed to be prescriptive, but help people to make their own moves, with the benefit of the additional context I can share. I also work hard at being inclusive, and that means not falling back on some of the pop astrology clichés for each sign.
With your work featured in major publications and media outlets, how do you balance traditional astrology with the fast-paced world of modern news?
Yes, I do provide Horoscope content through YouTube and Newspapers including the Metro https://metro.co.uk/tag/
Whatever breaking news story that occurs, or whichever person is in the news, if I look at their birth data, even if their time is not known, I can get an indication of what is unfolding for them.
Translating this in a way which is digestible to perhaps sometimes a non core astrology audience is down to the clarity of the writing but also because I feel I have an instinct for astro journalism. My approach is definitely not woo woo, so people need information which fits the context of the story but is also realistic and meaningful.
What has been the most memorable or impactful reading you’ve ever done for a client?
I have done hundreds of readings for clients the world over and every single one of them is an honour. I never ever reveal my clients identities, and never shall, but many are very notable and successful people, but guiding people who then make life changes with positive outcomes, is the most uplifting for me.
How do you see astrology evolving in the digital age, and what role do you think it plays in people’s lives today?
There are so many Apps and some are based on exact birth data, others AI. We also provide content in this arena too. Things will always evolve and I feel more people will adopt astrology be it through technology or more traditional methods.
Since our last interview in 2021, what significant changes or new insights have shaped your work in astrology?
I work now primarily as a consultant astrologer, offering 1 to 1’s the world over based on people’s exact birth data. This is a huge privilege and deeply gratifying. Through this work I am constantly learning. Astrology is such a vast field with so many different techniques, even the most seasoned practitioners would likely say they are always evolving.
