Achieving Long-Term Wellness With Dr. Ninnu Sudarshan

Achieving Long-Term Wellness With Dr. Ninnu Sudarshan

In today’s blog post, Mystic Mag explores the world of Oneworld Ayurveda, a center dedicated to this ancient healing system. Learn how Ayurveda works, the services offered by Oneworld Ayurveda, and the unique approach to health and wellness it provides.

When did you first know that being an Ayurvedic Physician was your calling and how did it come about?

I used to suffer from eczema and tried different types of medicines and nothing was helping me to heal. Finally, my parents took me to an Ayurvedic Physician who healed me with diet recommendations and medicines, and it was the first time that I had the opportunity to understand the impact of food causing diseases and healing.

Since that experience I was fascinated by Ayurveda, and after my schooling, I decided to pursue my dream of being a physician and I chose to study Ayurveda. I graduated from Pankajakasturi Ayurveda Medical College in Kerala, India after five and half years of learning.

What services is Oneworld Ayurveda offering?

Oneworld Ayurveda offers a range of Ayurvedic services focused on holistic health and wellness. Our primary service is Panchakarma, a detoxification and rejuvenation program tailored to individual needs.

Oneworld Ayurveda has two locations in Bali: Tegallalang and Ubud. At both locations, you will receive care from professional Ayurvedic physicians from India and highly-trained Balinese therapists. We maintain the high standard of treatment and attention to detail that Oneworld Ayurveda is known for.

During your Panchakarma, which starts from 7 nights, you will receive personalized consultations with experienced Ayurvedic Physicians who plan the treatment based on your unique constitution, offering a comprehensive detox and rejuvenation experience. Treatments include herbal therapies, Ayurvedic massages, dietary guidance, yoga, and meditation sessions promoting overall well-being, stress reduction, and healing.

Oneworld Ayurveda also offers online consultations and a 7-day online detox program.

Could you tell us more about Ayurveda – how does it work, and more importantly, how does it heal?

Ayurveda, an ancient Indian system of medicine, works on the principle of balancing the body’s three doshas—Vata (air and space), Pitta (fire and water), and Kapha (water and earth).

It emphasizes holistic healing through a combination of diet, herbal remedies, yoga, meditation, and lifestyle practices.

Ayurvedic healing involves personalized treatments based on an individual’s constitution (Prakriti) and the imbalance (Vikriti) in their doshas. Remedies aim to restore balance, enhance the body’s natural healing processes, and promote overall well-being. Herbs, oils, and minerals are used in various forms like teas, powders, and massages to detoxify and rejuvenate the body.

Additionally, Ayurveda focuses on preventive care by promoting healthy routines, dietary guidelines, and mental harmony. By addressing the root cause of ailments rather than just symptoms, Ayurveda seeks to achieve long-term health and harmony in mind, body, and spirit.

How would you compare Ayurvedic Medicine with the traditional one?

Ayurvedic medicine and traditional (Western) medicine represent two distinct practices  of healthcare with unique approaches to diagnosis, treatment, and understanding of the human body.

In Ayurveda, diagnosis involves a comprehensive assessment of a patient’s physical constitution (Prakriti), mental state, and lifestyle. Practitioners use observation, touch, and questioning to determine imbalances in the doshas. Treatments are personalized and may include herbal concoctions, dietary changes, detoxification processes (Panchakarma), yoga, and meditation.

Whereas traditional medicine treatment protocols are standardized, focusing on eliminating pathogens, repairing injuries, and managing symptoms primarily through medications, surgeries, and other medical interventions. It often focuses on symptom management rather than addressing the root causes of illnesses and may involve side effects from pharmaceutical treatments.

Ayurvedic medicine’s strength lies in its holistic approach, emphasizing preventive care and individualized treatment plans. It encourages natural remedies and lifestyle changes, which can be beneficial for chronic conditions and overall wellness. Traditional medicine excels in acute care, emergency situations, and conditions requiring immediate intervention

What can a person expect from your sessions?

During the Ayurveda consultation, a person can expect a holistic assessment of their physical, mental, and emotional health. We will evaluate their dosha (body constitution) through detailed questioning about lifestyle, diet, medical history, and current symptoms. During the consultation we do  examine the pulse, tongue, eyes, nails and relevant diagnostic methods for the proper diagnosis . Based on this assessment, personalized dietary guidelines, herbal remedies, treatment plan, lifestyle changes, and possibly detoxification practices like Panchakarma are recommended.

The aim is to balance the doshas and promote overall well-being. Follow-up consultations may be suggested to monitor progress and adjust the treatment plan.

What do you love most about your profession?

Being an Ayurvedic Physician able to heal thousands of clients over the years has brought me great happiness and fulfillment—to practice what I have learned and be able to give back to the science of Ayurveda.

Healing people and giving them an opportunity to look at their health from a different perspective than the traditional methods. The ability to use natural remedies, herbs, and traditional practices to restore balance and health is particularly fulfilling. Seeing patients achieve long-term wellness and a better quality of life through natural and sustainable methods makes me feel satisfied.
