Forget the crowded gyms and impersonal routines. The Yoga Sanctuary offers a welcoming space unlike any other. In this post, Mystic Mag invites you to discover a community, explore the healing power of sound, and experience yoga in a way that goes beyond the physical.

What is The Yoga Sanctuary, and what is its mission?

The Yoga Sanctuary is a full service yoga studio. We extend the benefits of yoga to people of all ages and proficiency levels. We offer a wide range of classes seven days a week, workshops that explore the many aspects of yoga practice and philosophy, as well as massage, sound healing, and energy work.

At our studio, we believe that everyone deserves moments of peace and tranquility, and cultivating community and fostering meaningful dialogues are central to our mission. Simply stated, our mission is to share our passion for yoga with the community by providing a warm, safe environment to develop the tools needed to incorporate yoga into everyday life.

What services do you offer?

As mentioned above, we offer daily yoga classes. We also offer workshops and workshop series that explore yoga practice in more depth. Topics range from aspects of physical practice, yoga philosophy, chanting, meditation, and more. We also offer massage, sound healing, reiki, and one-on-one yoga sessions. These one-on-one yoga sessions help to address individual questions and needs.

How can practicing Yoga help you achieve your optimal well-being?

The heart of practicing yoga teaches us to listen, to pay attention, and to be present in the moment.

Practicing yoga offers a multitude of physical, mental, and emotional benefits that can contribute to optimal well-being.

Physically: The physical practice of yoga with its various postures, or asana, can both help to stretch what might feel tight and strengthen and tone what might feel weak. Regular physical practice can help to improve flexibility and balance. It can help to improve chronic pain associated with back injuries or arthritis. It can help to improve posture and bring an overall awareness to one’s body alignment.

Mentally: In our classes we stress paying attention and making choices that suit where one is at any given moment. We emphasize mindfulness and paying attention to one’s breath. All of this can help reduce the effects of chronic stress as well as bring a kind of quietness to the mind, perhaps decreasing anxiety, tension, overall stress levels in general, but also increasing one’s ability to concentrate and focus.

Emotionally: At our studio, we encourage self-awareness and introspection, which helps to foster a greater sense of emotional balance and resilience. We discuss topics related to the yoga practice that include cultivating compassion, joy, acceptance, and more.

Overall Well-being: As we explore the aspects of yoga beyond just the physical postures, we touch into practices such as working with our breath or meditation. All that we do in our yoga practice contributes fully to one’s overall well-being. As we state in our mission, We are dedicated to spreading our love for yoga by nurturing a secure space where individuals can acquire the tools to integrate yoga into their daily lives. By incorporating yoga into their lifestyle, individuals can experience improvements in physical health, mental clarity, emotional balance, and overall quality of life.

We heard that you also provide Sound Healing therapies – could you provide more information on this healing approach? How can sound heal our body?

Sound healing is a deeply restorative way to connect with your energetic body. When moving through challenging moments in life, the body often catches those challenges and stores them energetically in different parts of the body. This often creates stiffness, pain, emotional shifts or other symptoms of energetic blockages.

The vibrations and frequencies of crystal and Tibetan sound bowls, chimes and other instruments help clear those challenges within the energy pathways to help promote peace and relaxation. In a group or individual session, the receiver of the sound rests comfortably on the ground, fully relaxed and supported with blankets and other props. The sound then washed over and through them. It’s really an amazing experience–deeply relaxing and healing.

What can a person expect from your sessions?

My teaching style integrates a gentle yet challenging approach, encouraging students to delve into the subtleties of movement–while maintaining a sense of humor. It would not be unusual for me to tell a joke or hear lots of laughter throughout the class. I emphasize alignment, yet I also provide the flexibility for students to explore their personal limits.

This guidance helps them tune into each movement and posture, allowing for adjustments that best meet their needs on any given day. I offer a variety of approaches to each posture, ensuring ample space for individual exploration. Philosophical elements of yoga are woven into my classes, presented in a way that is both meaningful and accessible. Ultimately, my goal is for everyone to leave class feeling better—and hopefully with a smile.

What do you love most about your profession?

One of the aspects I cherish most about my profession is the opportunity to be part of someone’s transformation. It’s a privilege to support and witness individuals during both challenging and joyful times in their lives. Regardless of the circumstances, being able to accompany someone on their journey and observe the inevitable changes that occur is profoundly rewarding.
