MysticMag chats with Trina Lee – a certified EFT Practitioner with a profound personal journey that led her to discover the transformative power of Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT). After facing challenges with conception and later being diagnosed with breast cancer in her early 30s, Trina realized that true wellness extends beyond nutrition and exercise to include mental and emotional well-being. Introduced to EFT at a pivotal moment, she experienced remarkable shifts in her life, releasing negativity and embracing a new perspective. Since becoming certified in 2015, Trina has passionately supported her clients, particularly women, in releasing limiting beliefs and stepping into their authentic selves. Her approach focuses on empowering women to overcome fears and societal expectations, allowing them to play big and live freely.
Trina, what inspired you to embark on a journey towards whole-body wellness, and how did your experience with breast cancer reshape your approach to health?
In my late 20’s my husband and I were trying to start a family, but weren’t able to get pregnant. I had endometriosis at the time, and was suffering from very painful periods, which ended up severely impacting my fertility. When a friend gave me a book about healing endometriosis through diet, I decided why not give it a try. After three months of following this healing diet I saw huge improvements on my health, energy, mental clarity, and my endo symptoms went away. After having our first child, my interest in health only grew as I was feeding my daughter and wanting to make sure what I was giving her was nourishing her body. A few years later, much to my surprise, I found out I had an aggressive form of breast cancer. I was 32 years old, and “healthy”; no family history of breast cancer, and negative for the genes BRCA 1 and BRCA2. I was baffled about how this could happen. I began a deep dive into whole-body wellness and realized that my limiting beliefs and negative thoughts were causing excess stress in my life. About a year after my cancer diagnosis I was introduced to EFT Tapping. This was the first technique I used that truly changed the beliefs that were limiting me. I noticed very quickly that I was no longer harboring past emotions and it completely changed my relationship to myself, stress and my relationships with other people. Now I believe that true health comes from a combination of nourishing foods, exercise, stress management, quality sleep, community, healthy/loving/supportive relationships, a supportive/healthy outlook on life and a compassionate and loving relationship with yourself.
How did you discover Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), and what was your initial experience with it like?
I was first introduced to EFT Tapping at a Hay House Conference by Nick Ortner, CEO of The Tapping Solution. He spoke for 20 minutes, and had everyone follow along as he explained tapping. I was incredibly skeptical and I actually didn’t tap with everyone during the conference. My impression of it was that it seemed weird, and too good to be true, but I was really intrigued by the research behind it. I decided later to try it on myself, and I worked on a limiting belief I held about a primary relationship in my life that I knew was hurting me. I tapped about that limiting belief, and I ended up feeling lighter, more free and holding a completely different mindset and outlook about this belief. It didn’t resonate with me anymore, and I was able to take action and make changes in that relationship that I was never able to make before, which brought almost an unimaginable positive change to my entire life.
As a certified EFT Practitioner, how do you tailor your approach to help women release limiting beliefs and step into their authentic selves?
Something that I’ve found while working with women is that there are often so many limiting beliefs that they hold true for themselves, but would never hold true for others. (I know this personally too and this unraveling and healing was a huge part of my personal journey before becoming a practitioner.) Once we have awareness about a limiting belief then we can question it, is this really true, is this serving me, is this somehow keeping me safe, is there anyway this isn’t true? A main focus of my sessions is on self compassion and self acceptance and this is usually some of the hardest work, but it is the most meaningful. Something I hold true is that whatever is brought forth in a session that the client doesn’t like, doesn’t feel good about or isn’t serving them, means it isn’t their truth! When we are in our truth it feels good! So by using EFT to clear away the limiting beliefs it will enable a clear connection with our true authentic selves.
You mentioned incorporating EFT into your meditation practice. How does this combination enhance the meditation experience, and what benefits have you observed in yourself and others?
I love using EFT before and during meditations. The reason why it’s so powerful is because when using EFT you are calming the nervous system, reducing cortisol, and getting out of the fight/flight response. By doing this you enable the ability to feel safe, calm, relaxed and at ease, which only makes your meditation time feel that much easier and powerful! My clients often comment that using EFT makes their meditation more accessible, easier and deeper.
How do you see the future of EFT and meditation evolving, especially in terms of their integration into mainstream wellness practices?
Currently both meditation and EFT Tapping are becoming more mainstream, but they both have a long way to go to be more seamlessly integrated into mainstream wellness practices. I believe that both practices can be incredibly beneficial to everyone, and I am constantly advocating for its growth in the wellness world. It seems that more and more people are seeking to feel better, participate in relationships in a healthier way, and experience more joy in their lives. The best way to achieve those goals is by being open and curious to techniques like these that are effective and powerful. My hope for the future of EFT Tapping and meditation is that they’ll become commonplace and we will see people tapping and meditating on the bus, in an uber, at the airport, and even at the park!
