MysticMag chats with Tracey Cardello. Tracey has spent almost 30 years as both a patient and a therapist, leading her to stray from the standard path of traditional therapy. She challenges the use of labels in therapy, believing they can limit personal growth and empowerment. Instead, Tracey advocates for holistic healing approaches that allow individuals to reclaim their power and uncover their true selves beyond the constraints of labels.
What inspired you to combine talk therapy with energy psychology, and how has this approach impacted your clients’ lives?
I did my post graduate work in psychodynamic psychotherapy which focuses on unconscious psychological processes and defense mechanisms as a vector for lasting structural change. I was introduced to energy psychology several years later and It was a natural complement. There are a variety of energy psychology methods. Generally speaking, they all allow you to tend to the body’s natural energy systems, namely the meridians, chakras and the biofield, while addressing memories and events which are distressing to the individual. They also employ the use of applied kinesiology or muscle testing to find hidden and unknown [root cause] information. This was an amazing discovery to me because I could teach people to access their previously unconscious information in a fraction of the time normal therapy would take. The main type of energy psychology I am trained in also has a spiritual component which traditional therapy lacks. This means it’s truly holistic as we can access information at the conscious, unconscious, body and soul level of a person’s being. The client’s own deepest wisdom leads the healing in the perfect order, speed and direction for that person at their particular level of consciousness.
In your opinion, what are some common misconceptions about mental health treatment, and how do you address them in your work?
I approached common mental health symptoms as clues to become curious about. I believe people have innate strengths and weaknesses but they are not passive victims of their experiences. To me, treatment should be empowering and challenging.
How do you ensure that your clients feel empowered and in control of their healing journey?
In order to ensure my clients are empowered, I teach them to self muscle test, and direct my questions to the part of them that knows the answers and can point us in the direction of their highest good. It sounds a little woo woo, but it’s actually very methodical. We muscle test their priority goal, and then the amount of resistance on that goal. From there, we can find the pattern or patterns that are interfering on that goal and work in each pattern until no resistance remains. We use a variety of techniques from meridian tapping to pray interventions to clear each pattern from them and all their parts at the conscious, unconscious body and soul levels. I have a list of over 130 interference patterns and a list of 15 or so interventions.
The mental health field often focuses on diagnosing and treating symptoms. How do you navigate the balance between addressing immediate concerns and delving into the root causes of your clients’ issues, particularly when using energy psychology?
People often come in with a preconceived idea of what their problems are and a history of diagnosis. Usually their only goal is to feel better and reclaim their lives and vitality. If they can step outside the narrow box their diagnosis has put them in, they can usually begin to start the process of healing very quickly. It’s a combination of their conscious desires and goals, and what their deepest wisdom is ready to heal first. For example, I had a client who wanted to lose weight but her first priority goal was to clear the loss trauma she suffered as a result of a miscarriage. She had never disclosed the miscarriage to me. In fact it was years before she began therapy and she hadn’t even thought it was important.
Once we cleared that trauma, she was able to start a food and exercise plan, and begin her weight loss journey using energy psychology. Her body needed to clear that trauma before it would begin the process of letting go of excess weight. She went on to lose, and to my knowledge, keep off about 30 lbs.
Trauma is a big impediment to progress and often we don’t connect the emotions we feel with past trauma because emotions can become blocked and trapped. Another client lost her beloved dog suddenly and unexpectedly. After a few months passed and she was still grieving, I suggested we do the trauma protocol. You see, trauma consists of many different parts that can actually be mapped out in outline form. We go through the outline and muscle test each line. We clear whatever comes up, as we go. In her case, she had some repressed rage that needed healing in addition to a few other things. She would never have come to understand her trapped rage without muscle testing but once she identified it, she understood and released it with 2 rounds of meridian tapping. We cleared a few other things, did a forgiveness practice and the grief she was holding melted away.
Your approach emphasizes the empowerment of clients to reclaim their lives. Could you elaborate on how you help individuals identify and overcome unconscious patterns that may be holding them back, and how this contributes to long-term healing and personal growth?
What we consciously know accounts for 5-10% of everything that motivates or holds us back. So, we access the unconscious, body and even soul level information with muscle testing. This makes for an extremely personalized experience. We can eventually set practically any goal, and slowly remove the resistance we have that prevents us from achieving that goal.
