MysticMag had the pleasure of speaking with Shannon Rollins, a dedicated hypnotherapist whose personal experiences sparked a passion for mental health and healing. In this exclusive interview, Shannon reveals how her journey through grief led her to the transformative practice of hypnosis and shares insights into the powerful techniques she uses to help clients achieve deep, lasting change.
How did you get into the field of hypnosis and what sparked your interest in it?
My journey into hypnosis was deeply personal and born from a blend of curiosity and necessity. I’ve always had a keen interest in mental health and the intricate ways our minds work. This curiosity was part of my life from a young age—I was fascinated by the complexities of human behavior and the challenges some face in altering those behaviors. Initially, I channeled this passion into creating wellness programs in the corporate world while running a coaching business on the side. However, it seemed like something was still missing, as I noticed that deeper changes were often elusive.
My path took a sharp and painful turn when I lost my stepbrother to suicide. The loss was sudden and heart-wrenching, leaving our family in profound grief. In the midst of my sorrow, I faced a crippling mental block—the fear that if I couldn’t help him, maybe I couldn’t help anyone. It was a moment of near surrender for me. Seeking clarity and healing, I turned to a hypnotherapist. The transformation I experienced in that session was profound. That very night, inspired and hopeful, I enrolled in hypnotherapy school.
Today, I’m grateful to call my first hypnotherapist not just a mentor but a dear friend. My journey into this field is a testament to the transformative power of hypnosis, guided by both personal loss and professional curiosity.
Can you walk me through one of your Hypnotherapy sessions?
Each hypnotherapy session is tailored to the individual’s unique experiences and challenges. The initial part of our session is all about establishing a connection. I take the time to understand the person’s life story, beliefs, emotions, and even physical sensations in the body. It’s important to understand not only how our mind is communicating with us but also the body sensations. They are signals from the subconscious and tell a story.
After getting to know my client, we begin with the hypnosis session. Hypnosis is a scientifically recognized technique used to promote deep relaxation, concentration, and an open state of consciousness, many people often refer to as a trance. Unlike the dramatized versions seen in media, hypnosis is a safe and controlled process where the client remains in control and deeply aware.
During hypnosis, I guide the client into a hypnotic state by accessing specific brainwave states—namely Alpha and Theta:
– Alpha brainwaves are present during light meditation and relaxation. When you’re in an Alpha state, you’re calm, your mind is clear and receptive. It’s often associated with pre-sleep, daydreaming, and mindfulness practices.
– Theta brainwaves happen during deep meditation and light sleep. Theta is where the subconscious resides and is key to profound creativity, insight, and emotional connection. It is in this state that hypnotherapy can have significant changes in perception and facilitate powerful healing by allowing us to access memories and experiences below the surface of our conscious awareness.
All that is required is to simply relax in the comfort of my reclining chair while I navigate the session, ensuring a safe, supportive, and effective journey through their subconscious. This process allows them to explore, understand, and eventually shift patterns of behavior, thought, or emotion that have been holding them back. The beauty of hypnosis lies in its ability to harness the inherent strength of the mind, promoting lasting change from within.
What is the Quantum Healing Hypnosis Technique (QHHT) and how much is it different from other forms/techniques of hypnosis?
Quantum Healing Hypnosis Technique, or QHHT, is a profound method of hypnosis that explores much deeper levels of the subconscious than traditional techniques. Developed by Dolores Cannon over several decades of practice, QHHT uniquely focuses on obtaining unlimited knowledge and healing from the higher self.
What sets QHHT apart from other forms of hypnosis is its specific emphasis on accessing past lives and connecting with the higher self to facilitate deep healing and profound insights. It’s not just about relaxation or behavioral modification, which are more common goals in traditional hypnotherapy. Instead, QHHT addresses the multidimensional aspects of our existence, helping individuals to uncover and heal issues that span across time and dimensions. This technique is a beautiful and deeply spiritual journey into the soul, providing clarity, understanding, and often transformational healing that resonates on multiple levels of one’s being. It’s truly an honor to help someone discover their eternal self and it’s truly a sacred process. I’m so grateful to be able to help my clients connect in this way.
How do you maintain a relationship of mutual trust with your clients and are there any common misconceptions about hypnotherapy that you came across?
When a client comes in, my primary goal is that they feel comfortable. Without comfort and trust, the doors to deeper consciousness remain closed. I cultivate trust by being fully present, genuinely caring, and consistently supportive, ensuring my clients feel safe and understood. Trust me, my clients will know if I’m not fully present even if on an unconscious level, so it’s my number 1 goal that they know I’m here to help them in any way I can. This presence allows them to relax their natural mental defenses and engage openly in the process. We journey together, and my role is to support them every step of the way, reassuring them that they are not alone in their path to healing. Misconceptions about hypnotherapy often stem from a lack of understanding. I spend a lot of time educating on what hypnosis is and what it’s not so it never affects our sessions together.
