In the latest MysticMag interview, we connect with Shanie Cormier, a dedicated Reiki practitioner and meditation guide. Shanie shares her inspiring journey into the world of Reiki, the tranquil environment she has created for her clients, and the ways she incorporates crystal healing into her practice to help others find balance, clarity, and inner peace.
How did you get into Reiki and what sparked your interest in it?
That is an interesting question because I would say energy brought me to Reiki! In 2012, I had no idea what Reiki was. At that time, I was teaching in schools, starting my family, and building our home. One day, I joined a direct selling company, which I am still part of. That was when a new door opened! I was doing trade shows in the wellness department and there always were people doing Reiki there. My eyes kept looking that way. Not long after, a friend of mine told me there was a Reiki class coming up and asked if I wanted to go. I said yes, still not knowing what it was! When I got to the class, the teacher asked what brought us here. I said I have no idea, but I know I am supposed to be here! One thing led to another and I am now a full-time Reiki practitioner!
Can you walk me through one of your Reiki sessions?
First, when a client comes to my clinic, they have to drive about 500 feet in a driveway that brings them to the clinic. That driveway is the entry to my beautiful forest! Then, when the client gets out of the car, they are greeted by my goats. My clinic is surrounded by trees, birds, and some farm animals. This helps them to be grounded before we even start the Reiki session! My clinic is off-grid, meaning no wifi, no bad waves, all-natural air. When you enter, you already feel the stress leaving you!
After we talk a little, the client gets to lay back on the bed and continue their relaxing journey but closing their eyes and taking 3 big breaths to clear the mind and release everything that doesn’t serve them anymore. I then start to cleanse and align the chakras and continue with the Reiki. I finish by cleansing and sealing the chakras. Then, I let the client pick a card, which I call my magical cards. They always have the perfect message for that client, on that day! One session lasts about 1.5 hours, but I don’t want people to feel in a rush of leaving and want to keep the feeling of calmness as long as we can, so there’s never a rush to leave, as I keep a window open between clients.
How are your trainings structured and what different ones do you offer?
I teach Reiki. Reiki has 4 different levels, plus one youth level, which starts at 10 years old. The first thing we have to understand about the training is that when we decide to take a Reiki class, it has to be for you and only you! Reiki is a tool you can use to work on yourself. I always say that it’s kind of like self-therapy. We do meditations and attunements, we do learn some theory and history of Reiki in level 1, and how to cleanse the house in level 2, but most of the learning is about conscience and understanding who we are. Levels 2, 3, and 4, which is called Master, are the continuation of what we discovered on us; the next levels reinforce what we started at the first level.
Level 1 and 2 are 2 days, from 9 to 4. Level 3 and Master are the most interesting ones! The structure is different as it’s like a silent retreat for almost a week! Those are my favorite levels. The silence part is for the breaks and free time, which is essential to discover our true self. During that time, the participants get to go for walks in nature, sit down next to the river, hug a tree, and listen to the birds or the wind, they can write, meditate, sleep, cry, laugh, be themselves, listen to their heart, do what makes them happy. Being with ourselves can sometimes seem scary because we forgot to listen to ourselves for so long, but it is a gift to listen to us. After doing a level, the participants are always happy they did!
You also offer Meditation with crystal healing. What can you tell me about that part of your work?
I have always been attracted to crystals so I decided to learn more about them! I love meditating with them, or even sleeping with them. They are so special and all have properties that can help you with different parts of your life. Each crystal is unique. I use them also in my Reiki sessions, but I decided to create a different healing session with them. To start this session, we do a guided meditation first, then I start the Crystal Healing. Crystal healing is another form of energy healing where we work more with the crystals than our hands like Reiki, but we also cleanse and align the chakras. Both types of sessions will bring the same benefits; a feeling of calmness, reducing the stress and anxiety, and more. This option is good for people who have never worked with energy before, are curious, want a tune up or want to see or feel what it does before doing a longer session.
What is your favorite part of your profession?
What I love most is seeing the changes in my clients’ eyes! The light around them is brighter after a couple of sessions. Their eyes sparkle. They tell me they feel better, less anxious, or happier. The difference I see in them is what I love about my profession! Working on us, it’s the best gift we came to give ourselves! I love that I work for love! Also, every time I do a session on someone, it gives me a session for myself as well! I also get that gift of love! It made me grow in a way I could never have imagined I would! I love the life I created for myself!
