Can you please introduce yourself to our readers and share a few details about your professional background?
I am an Integrated Wellness Practitioner in Los Angeles, CA. Being certified as a NeuroSoma Massage Practitioner, an Ayurveda Wellness Practitioner, and a Sanctioned Teacher of the Pachakuti Mesa Tradition, I have combined 2 ancient and 1 modern holistic methods of healing that give amazing results to many of our chronic dis-eases in this modern fast-paced world in which we live.
I address physical, mental, and emotional imbalances that are tailored to the individual seeking relief from a myriad of discomforts. After having worked in the music, film, and advertising industries for 30 years I was seeking a deeper connection with nature and a better understanding of the difficulties I had experienced from physical and emotional traumas throughout my life as well as relief from the chronic physical pain I was experiencing. After suffering for 5 or 6 years with chronic neck pain from a head injury I found Neurosoma and within a year of treatments had relieved my chronic neck pain. The added bonus was the chronic low back pain I had suffered from for more than a dozen years was also alleviated. Just a few years later as I was recovering from Scarlet Fever yet feeling my life force diminish every day, I magically stumbled upon Ayurveda, and within a few months, my vitality had been restored to a state exceeding my best health before that time.
Once I was no longer in chronic pain and felt the most vibrant and healthy of my entire life it didn’t take long for me to make the decision to change my profession by learning, embracing, and sharing the ancient and modern wisdom that had healed me. After four years of training, and working with these two modalities of healing occasionally found resistance in some people who simply didn’t resonate with Eastern spirituality that was an underpinning of my Ayurvedic practice or not having the patience to let Neurosoma work its magic. At that time don Oscar Miro-Quesada literally showed up in my email one day and I knew as soon as I watched his video that I wanted to learn his tradition of ancient healing wisdom known as cross-cultural shamanism.
His ability to bridge the Eastern and Western worlds of spirituality and philosophy helped me understand Peruvian Shamanism on a deeper level because I had experienced both buddhist and Hindu teachings over two decades. It turned out to be a missing link in my perception of the unity from which all things arise and are made whole and gave me a western sensibility from which to speak.
What are the main principles of Ayurveda and how can they be beneficial to the modern person?
Ayurveda is a 5000+ year-old science channeled by Rishis and shared for centuries orally until about 2000 years ago when it became compiled in written form and has been transmitted from the classical texts since. Ayurveda sees everyone as unique individuals all made up of different arrangements of the same 5 elements. These elements are also within everything we experience in the 3rd dimension here on our beautiful planet Earth. By understanding an individual’s Prakriti which is their metabolic balance at birth and deducing the vikriti which is their current metabolic imbalance both Vaidyas and Practitioners of Ayurveda are led to improve their patient’s health by offering lifestyle, dietary, and oftentimes herbal remedies to restore the balance that is present in vibrant Health.
Once a person understands what their unique system needs in order to express an optimal level of health then it becomes much easier to maintain a healthy expression of this balance by following dinacharya, a supportive structure to your daily routine that includes wisdom on the timing of sleeping, waking, exercising, eating, and working as well as gaining insight into rather subtle differences in the food you choose to eat, harmonizing with Nature’s seasons, what forms of exercise are best for your constitution and how these choices affect your overall health and well-being.
What is unique about Peruvian Shamanism and how is it different from other shamanic traditions?
Shamanism is possibly the oldest profession and the differences seem to be primarily regional. Revering the powers of creation, the natural world, community, loving relationships, understanding that everything in existence is a sentient Being and communing with our interplanetary origins is a part of most of the traditions I am familiar with.
I have been indoctrinated into a cross-cultural form of Peruvian Shamanism known as the Pachakuti Mesa Tradition and created by don Oscar Miro-Quesada through his relationship with our star relatives and 16 years of apprenticing with master healers in Peru. It was at the behest of his teacher don Celso to bring these healing techniques to North America that compelled don Oscar to undertake such a formidable task. Don Celso Rojas Palomino from Chiclayo had an intimate understanding of the Divinity that lies within all of creation. He understood that it’s through rituals that we reawaken our soul’s purpose and gain our rightful place as co-creators.
When working in such harmony with dedication and love we create realities that manifest miraculous shifts here on our planet. After don Celso’s death, don Oscar learned through observing and working with the rituals of don Benito Corihuamán Vargas, a renowned altomisayoq and healer from Wasao (near Cusco) who excelled in coca divinations, haywas/despacho offerings, and disease extractions as healings accomplished through offering Ayni or sacred reciprocity further demonstrating that our interdependence is enriched by making offerings to the source of healing that resides in a proper relationship with the apus (sacred mountains), lakes, streams, and Energies that lie within the realization that we are All One Within.
How do you combine your knowledge and skills from those traditional modalities with Neurosoma to get the best result for your clients?
Neurosoma, created by a multi-disciplinary engineer from Los Angeles works to restore muscles that have sometimes been trapped in spasm so long they have numbed out and caused other areas to feel pain and lose some of their function. Physically manipulating muscle tissue in a very subtle yet specific way treats the muscles and nervous system that runs between them as interdependent parts of the whole.
The muscle tissue is rejuvenated by this limited pressure stimulation to a more healthy state which supports proper function and allows our vertebrae to naturally realign, reducing herniations which in turn offer us a pain-free existence. Our body is designed to seek homeostasis or balance. When the head is not aligning above the sacrum due to chronic spasm of muscles between the two points the opposing muscles will actually pull the spine into a weird alignment seeking that goal. My understanding of our physical, mental, and emotional existence as part of the All, the One, allows me to see this interdependence and how the state of the physical human body also affects the mental, emotional, and spiritual bodies and vice versa.
We are beautiful entanglements of co-creation and knowing this influences my approach to unraveling the cause of our individual dis-orders and dis-ease. We are all perfect beings who sometimes unwittingly rearrange the harmonious balance of our most perfect selves. Being One with Nature my different modalities intermingle beautifully as they are all holistic.
