MysticMag meets Paul Bucky, the visionary founder of Bio-Touch Healing. He invites you to reclaim your birthright of health, happiness, and love. The old belief that “wealth equals health” no longer holds true, and the demand for complementary healthcare choices is growing. Bio-Touch is a revolutionary practice that connects us to our innate healing ability by lightly touching specific points on the body, is a complementary and integrative medicine approach for everyone, and is remarkably effective.
Paul, what can you tell us about your own personal journey?
My personal journey starts with my birth in 1951 into a middle-class Jewish family in Los Angeles, California. I led a relatively simple life and had all my needs met. At the age of five, something unusual happened during a birthday wish. Instead of wishing for something material like a bicycle, I wished for the happiness, health, and love of everyone. However, I felt guilty afterward for not wishing for something tangible. I didn’t fully understand the significance of that wish at the time, but I appreciate it more now.
As I progressed through life, I moved from being raised in Los Angeles to attending college at San Diego State. It was during my college years that I experienced a significant shift. I began to grapple with depression, anxiety, and a sense of falling apart. Seeking guidance, I started counseling, and a pivotal moment in my healing journey was when my counselor placed his hand on my knee and told me, “Paul, you have a lot of love to give.” This had a profound impact on me.
Following this healing experience, I continued my journey and became involved in various spiritual and social movements of the 1960s. I explored the women’s movement, Chicano studies, the civil rights movement, and more. This led me to a path of spiritual exploration, following gurus, practicing yoga, and meditation, all in pursuit of love and enlightenment.
At one point, I opened my home to create a community, where eighteen people lived together in a small space, took in foster children, and embraced a communal lifestyle. Later, I took a radical step by moving to a remote 40-acre property in southwest Colorado, where we had no running water, electricity, or even a mailbox. We lived a simple, healing, and healthy lifestyle, studying various philosophies, writers, philosophers, and religions from around the world for about eight or nine years.
Eventually, we had to sell the property and move to a small town in Colorado called Mancos, with a population of around 900 people. It was in Mancos that my journey led me to meet Norman, which we will discuss a little later.
Can you explain the core principles and techniques behind Bio-Touch Healing and how it differs from other complementary or holistic healthcare practices like acupuncture or Reiki?
People often wonder about the difference between Bio-Touch and other healing techniques like Reiki or acupuncture. The profound distinction lies in the simplicity and accessibility of Bio-Touch. Unlike Reiki, Bio-Touch doesn’t have levels of healers, and there is no elaborate hierarchy to follow. There is also no significant cost involved, as the technique utilizes the index and middle fingers of each hand, which you carry with you all the time.
Bio-Touch doesn’t require a belief system, making it open to anyone regardless of their faith or worldview. Unlike techniques like acupuncture, which demand extensive study of anatomy and energy fields, Bio-Touch is remarkably straightforward. Its fundamental philosophy is based on touch, and there’s no need for intricate knowledge.
What sets Bio-Touch apart is its fundamental belief in human touch as a means to connect and heal. It activates our innate ability to offer comfort and care, much like the instinctual touch of a mother comforting her child. Dr. Kenneth Stephenson, an allopathic doctor who conducted research on Bio-Touch, even likened it to the touch of a kangaroo mother with her young. Bio-Touch is about activating the natural human desire to help others feel better, and it’s an ability that resides within all of us. The key difference among these techniques lies in their presentation, and Bio-Touch strives to make its approach accessible to people worldwide, regardless of their belief system.
It’s intriguing how Bio-Touch has a humble origin with a mining engineer, Norman Cochran, who discovered its potential. How did this practice evolve from its beginnings to where it is today, and what inspired you to become involved in promoting it?
As I mentioned earlier, Norman, the mining engineer, was a fascinating individual. His story, as I’ve come to understand it, dates back to the 1970s when he was at a friend’s house. A critical situation unfolded as the lady of the house began experiencing a severe hemorrhage due to a miscarriage. In a remarkable and spontaneous moment, Norman stated that he believed he could help if he could touch her. The intriguing part is that he had no prior experience with healing work, and this was entirely uncharted territory for him.
Against all odds, Norman proceeded to perform a series of simple touch-based actions that came to him intuitively. Astonishingly, his touch had a healing effect, stopping the hemorrhaging, and enabling the woman to carry her baby to full term. This incident marked the initial spark of Norman’s extraordinary healing journey. Over the years, Norman became renowned for his remarkable abilities. He was known for standing in front of people, receiving instructions for specific touch points wherever he went. People heard about his unique gift and flocked to him in search of relief and healing.
Initially, Norman considered himself a gifted healer, blessed with a special talent. However, this path took a toll on him. It drained him physically, emotionally, and spiritually, ultimately leading him to a breaking point. This crucial turning point in Norman’s journey occurred in Quartzsight, Arizona, where a woman from Phoenix came to seek his help. Exhausted and with no more energy to give, Norman had to tell her that he couldn’t assist her. In that moment of realization, he understood that he needed to share his knowledge with others to carry on this legacy.
Norman began teaching a woman who had been spending time with him and his wife, Carol. Teaching her marked the beginning of a remarkable shift in Norman’s perspective. When new people approached him with their issues after a year of teaching, he decided to let his student take care of them. To his astonishment, he observed that the person he had taught was just as effective as he was in providing healing. It was a revelation, and Norman recognized the need to teach more people this incredible healing technique.
This journey eventually led Norman to a place called Mancos, Colorado, an old mining town. It was quite a conservative community, with religious individuals, cowboys, and various cultural backgrounds coexisting. Our community needed to sell our property on the 40 acres and thus moved to this town with my wife. We were known as the town’s “hippies” due to our unconventional lifestyle, yet completely accepted due to our work in the community.
At one point, I experienced a debilitating back problem. The excruciating pain ran down my leg, commonly referred to as sciatic nerve pain. Having turned my back on conventional doctors, chiropractors, and healers, I had refrained from seeking their help. I had witnessed that most of these healing practitioners had a financial agenda, and their primary focus seemed to be on charging fees. This perspective changed when I learned about Norman’s work.
The townsfolk started telling me about Norman and his wife, Carol, who were providing healing services. I found this unusual, especially during the late ’80s when alternative healing practices were not a common topic in the town. After trying to resolve my back issue independently for a year and engaging in self-healing practices, I realized the pain was only getting worse. This experience led to a profound understanding: if self-healing didn’t work, it was likely due to a lack of self-love, divine love, or a solid spiritual foundation.
Desperate to alleviate the persistent pain, I decided to find Norman, who lived without a telephone. With no means of contacting him, I simply followed the call of my pain one day. My old pickup truck took me to his doorstep, where I was greeted by a man who seemed like a character from the 1950s Navy. He had a robust chest, wearing a white T-shirt with rolled-up sleeves and a pack of cigarettes tucked in that sleeve. I, on the other hand, was wearing cutoff jeans, flip-flops, and a ponytail. We seemed like a mismatch, yet this man introduced himself as Norman, and he assured me that he could help with my back.
We ascended the stairs to his house, where I was welcomed by the unmistakable scent of cigarette smoke. Carol, Norman’s wife, was busy pouring coffee. The house was filled with the haze of smoke and the aroma of cookies and bread. It was far from the typical healing environment I had anticipated—no soothing music, incense, or new-age symbols. It was just a normal, everyday setting where people gathered to share the simple healing power of touch.
After a conversation that lasted about 20 minutes, Norman led me to a room, instructing me to remove my shirt. He proceeded to demonstrate the first two points, known as “the Greeting,” which I quickly realized were straightforward to learn. Norman began working on my back, and as he touched me, he didn’t offer any information about what he was doing. When it was all done, he simply suggested that I could return if I wished. What caught me off guard was the final question I asked: “How much do I owe you?” Norman dismissed the idea of payment, explaining that they didn’t charge for their sessions.
This was a significant contrast to the healing practices I had encountered in the past. Norman and Carol not only didn’t charge for their services but also discouraged any form of compensation from those they had helped. People would leave packs of cigarettes, cash, and food, as they genuinely appreciated the value of the healing they had received. The absence of monetary transactions spoke volumes about the purity of their intentions. People from various walks of life, including folks from local American Indian tribes, migrant farm workers, cowboys, and individuals of different religious backgrounds, flocked to Norman’s house seeking relief from pain.
The impact of Norman’s presence in that community was profound. In an area where people had traditionally not communicated with each other for generations, Norman’s touch and Carol’s support fostered a spirit of love and connection. This transformative experience opened my eyes to the fulfillment of a wish I had made as a five-year-old—a wish for universal love. It was right there in that small town, manifested through the simple touch that Norman had shared with so many people.
That moment led me to realize the need to make this extraordinary technique accessible to the world. In 1988, I decided to embark on a mission to share Bio-Touch with the public, inspired by Norman’s teachings and the impact of his healing touch. I became the driving force behind spreading Bio-Touch, aiming to make it available to everyone, regardless of their background, belief systems, or financial status. It’s been my mission for the past 35 years, to bring the gift of Bio-Touch to the world.
How popular or renowned is Bio-Touch today?
The global impact of Bio-Touch is indeed substantial, with practitioners and individuals learning the technique in various countries around the world. It’s heartening to see Bio-Touch expanding its reach to places like Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Mexico, the Czech Republic, Austria, Australia, Germany, Japan, and many more. Practitioners have shown remarkable dedication by translating the manual into numerous languages to make Bio-Touch accessible to diverse communities.
However, Bio-Touch doesn’t fit the conventional mold of a massive movement, and this is due to its unique nature. Unlike many practices that charge substantial fees, Bio-Touch operates on the principle that the healing touch of love doesn’t have to come with a price tag. While some minimal charges may exist for teachings and materials, they are often viewed with skepticism in Western society, as people tend to associate value with higher costs. Bio-Touch challenges this perception by emphasizing that truth and healing can be accessible to all without financial barriers.
Bio-Touch’s nonprofit, tax-exempt organization further demonstrates its commitment to making healing accessible to everyone. Over 35 years, Bio-Touch has maintained a sustainable presence with an all-volunteer staff, consistently balancing its books, and never going into debt. This enduring presence is a testament to the organization’s unwavering dedication to its mission. Interactions and connections with individuals like this Author help amplify Bio-Touch’s message and reach, bringing this simple yet profound healing technique to even more people around the world.
As our healthcare system faces challenges, the idea of empowering individuals to take responsibility for their healthcare is significant. How does Bio-Touch encourage people to be active participants in their well-being and healthcare decisions?
Bio-Touch serves as a powerful tool to empower individuals in their journey towards self-awareness and understanding their own bodies. Many people living with pain often find themselves trapped in a cycle of suffering and fear. This perpetual cycle erodes their connection with their own bodies, leading them to rely heavily on the conventional healthcare system, which, as we all know, is facing its own set of challenges. Moreover, for numerous individuals, accessing healthcare is an unaffordable luxury.
The remarkable aspect of Bio-Touch is its accessibility; it doesn’t impose financial burdens, allowing individuals to begin their healing journey and alleviate pain and disease symptoms. Furthermore, Bio-Touch has an empowering effect on people. As individuals become more attuned to their bodies through this practice, they gain the tools to engage in more meaningful conversations with their healthcare professionals.
This ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with healthcare providers is crucial, as we inhabit our own bodies and possess a deep understanding of our unique needs. The vast amount of information available through sources like Google, TikTok, and social media underscores the importance of making informed healthcare decisions. Bio-Touch facilitates a heightened self-awareness, enabling individuals to work in partnership with healthcare professionals and to make conscious choices regarding their well-being.
Practitioners of Bio-Touch do not make diagnoses or recommendations. Instead, Bio-Touch encourages individuals to trust their own self-awareness. This cooperative approach with the healthcare system allows individuals to decide which medical procedures or treatments they feel comfortable with. For some, this may involve invasive procedures, and Bio-Touch can offer pre- and post-treatment sessions. Others may opt not to proceed with certain interventions, and Bio-Touch supports them during their transition.
Bio-Touch aligns with the belief that individuals should believe in and foster their own self-awareness, making them active participants in their healthcare decisions. The practice has garnered support from medical professionals, including Dr. Kenneth Stevenson, Dr. Gary Schwartz and Dr. Carole McKenzie, who have conducted research showing consistent benefits, such as reduced pain and stress, feelings of being cared for, and notable physiological and emotional changes in participants.
Bio-Touch has also been found to have an impact on stress hormone levels and Interleukin-12 levels, which play a crucial role in immune system responses, assisting in the fight against cancer and tumors. This research-backed approach positions Bio-Touch as a valuable complement to the healthcare system, working in tandem to empower individuals in their pursuit of well-being.
Bio-Touch’s vision emphasizes creating a community dedicated to service, self-awareness, and recognizing the equality of all humanity. Could you elaborate on how this vision is being realized through Bio-Touch, and what steps are taken to build and sustain this community of practitioners and supporters?
Now, more than ever, our mission holds significant importance. In these trying times, we aim to foster a global community that supports one another through practical expressions of love. In a personal example, my mother’s story demonstrates the remarkable effectiveness of Bio-Touch. While the medical system did open heart surgery on her, she died on the table and was revived. She was declared to be potentially left in a vegetative state if she did live. But after applying Bio-Touch, she made a remarkable recovery. Within six months, she was walking along the beaches of Hawaii, with the doctor stating that her heart resembled that of a 20-year-old, devoid of any damage.
Bio-Touch’s effectiveness extends from complex cases to everyday health concerns, and our goal is to encourage people to believe in the power of simplicity. We proudly feature a global network of practitioners, all of whom can be found on our website. We aspire to unite more and more individuals worldwide, inviting them to join hands and share the gift of Bio-Touch by using their two fingers to bring comfort and relief.
