Explore the realms of energy healing, ancestral wisdom, and the impact generational trauma has on us with Patty Montoya. In this insightful MysticMag interview, Patty shares her journey into energy healing, her unique approach to Akashic Record readings, and the transformative role of a Death Doula.
How did you get into the field of energy healing, and what sparked your interest in it?
I initially started with energy healing by learning about my own trauma. I started learning about generational trauma in general and my family’s generational trauma. When I realized that most of my trauma did not start with myself, I started looking for ways to heal. Learning about energy healing modalities like Reiki, mediumship healing, Body and Emotion Code, and other modalities, has been the beginning of a beautiful ancestral healing process. All of these systems help release trauma, including generational trauma, and bring forth ancestral healing
Can you walk me through one of your Akashic Record Readings?
Akashic records represent the idea that there’s a library with all of our information. This library includes information from the past, present, and future about anyone. It’s guarded by higher entities, whose role is to provide us with the information we can handle at the moment. They never release any information that is not for our higher good.
When doing Akashic readings, we need to prepare ourselves. The preparation method is usually meditation for about 20 minutes to be able to connect to my higher self and guides. Then I’ll open my own Akashic records. Once my Akashic records are open, I’ll open the Akashic records for my client.
I usually ask them to come up with about five questions they want answered. These questions can be about anything regarding their past lives, their future, an animal, or a piece of land. The only rule is that I cannot open someone’s else Akashic Records without their permission. For example, a question could be “Why do I fear the Ocean” or “What is my purpose in life.”
I focus heavily on identifying the limiting beliefs that are coming up for that person and are preventing them from reaching their goals. For example, If you’ve been wanting to be in a relationship and haven’t been able to find your soulmate, let’s figure out what is preventing you from being in love. It’s kind of like an encompassing session. The reason behind this focus is that after getting that information, you now know what may be blocking them. With that information, we can use other modalities, such as energy healing or coaching, to release and unblock the clients.
Once I have the questions set, I started asking the Akashic Record to instruct me in anything relevant for this person to know. From there on, I am just a channel, a bridge between the client and their Akashic Records. When the client is satisfied with the conversations, we close the Akashic Records and thank our guides.
What is a Death Doula, and can you share a few details about the work you do in that role?
I always compare being a Death Doula with being a Birth Doula. A Birth Doula is someone who helps your mom bring you to life. Birth Doulas support the mom and anyone that is around to have the most beautiful birth, the most pain-free and comfortable birth.
Similarly, we can prepare for our death to make it as comfortable as possible. Of course, not everyone can prepare for their death, but many people can. We could have a Reiki session or Sound Bath Healing, etc during our dying stage to make the uncomfortable more comfortable. A Death Doula can make a person’s end of life as comfortable as possible. The role encompasses a lot of dynamics, before a person passes away, during the death, and then after the fact.
Every Death Doula chooses what they want to work with. The services can include helping the family or the loved ones that are around the dying person to close cycles. When someone who is in the midst of losing a loved one is not able to ask certain questions, like asking for forgiveness. In that situation, the idea is to make that person as comfortable as possible and to help them tie anything that is left untied in their lives so that they can leave in peace.
When a person passes away, a Death Doula can organize things for the family and prepare any ceremony that they wish to have and just support the family members in more organizational planning, including things like setting up a funeral, handling finances, etc. These services can be very helpful because, when a person is grieving and have what we call a grief brain, you just don’t have the capacity to think about all these things, so you’re looking for someone to be a caregiver. In a way, it’s a similar role to the one of a wedding planner.
What other services do you offer?
I mentioned Body Code and Emotion Code. I also do Tarot readings. I do Psychic and Mediumship readings, as well, various energy healing modalities, including energy clearing for ourselves, animals, and spaces.
Emotion Code and Body Code modalities all have the same purpose: to remove or release stuck energy in our body. Emotion’s code’s premise is that we trap negative emotions when we don’t take the time to process them. For example, you were driving and you got in a car crash. That might have startled you, and you could have trapped emotions such as panic, helplessness, and fearfulness, but because in this day and age, we don’t have time to process these emotions, the emotions get stuck, creating havoc in our bodies.
Reiki is very similar. Reiki is a Japanese healing modality, and we connect with the universal energy to restore balance to our bodies. I offer in-person as well as remote sessions. Reiki is beautiful when you don’t want to talk, and it’s really great for people with trauma because it is a hands-off approach. I am not touching my clients when I am working with them, I am just directing energy their way. I always tell my clients. No matter what modality I use, the effects are always beautiful harmony and alignment.
Then we have the Tarot readings, which I use for everything. You can use it to figure out what’s your purpose in life or if you want to talk to someone. Again, it’s also important to identify what’s preventing you from reaching those goals and what’s blocking you. I’m always working through a trauma lens. I work with people who have lost a loved one or going through anticipatory grief, so I’m also an anticipatory grief coach. In order to achieve your ambitions, we have to remove those blockages.
Is there anything else about your work that you’d like to share that we haven’t covered?
I would like to add that it’s really important to understand generational trauma and how we carry a lot of traumas from our ancestors. We can inherit traumas and memories from about 7 or 8 generations before us. If we don’t heal them, our children and grandchildren will experience all of these emotions in a loop. For that reason, it’s really beautiful when we understand the history of our country, our family, and our environment.
I was visiting Latvia 2 weeks ago or so. That’s my fiancé’s country, and we were looking at all that the war has caused, and discussing how we can see those effects today in your body. On the other hand, I’m from Colombia, and we’ve been at war for over 50 years. All of those situations just get magnified throughout my life, and I feel them even in the United States.
It’s not about feeling like we’re all traumatized and unable to do anything about it. Still, it’s, about being open to understanding that we’re connected to our ancestors and that if we heal ourselves, we’re able to heal everyone else, as well. It’s not our job to heal our ancestors, but giving ourselves the gift of space and time to heal ourselves is very beautiful.
