Can you please introduce yourself to our readers and share a few details about your professional background?
My name is Marnie Kahn, and I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, (LCPC) licensed in Maryland, Florida, Arizona, and Missouri. At this time I am only seeing clients virtually through telehealth. I am certified as a HeartMath Practitioner, Law of Attraction Counselor, (CLAC), and Hypnotherapy Practitioner.
I see myself more as a life coach helping individuals move successfully through life as it presents itself with challenges, struggles, painful experiences, change, and loss.
I feel called to be of service to those who are struggling with emotional pain and support them, but also to be a teacher providing skills, techniques, and processes that reduce suffering and bring them back into alignment with the magnificence they really are.
How did you come across HeartMath and what sparked your interest in the field? What are the benefits of HeartMath?
I fell in love with HeartMath when I learned about them, because I unconsciously knew that we all had an inner guidance system that was not in the brain, but somewhere deeper that was not confined to time and space or the rational mind
When we feel and act with sincere appreciation, caring, and kindness for others – all qualities of the heart – and when we can observe the world around us without the preset judgments of the mind, but rather with the compassion in our hearts, then we will truly be living life from the heart.
“Heart-based living,” HeartMath founder Doc Childre wrote, “helps you learn to live in the now, bringing more of your real self into each moment. Becoming more of who you really are releases inner security, allowing you to relate to life with increased hope and confidence. Increased fulfillment is the result of this process.”
Studies conducted with over 11,500 people have shown improvements in mental & emotional well-being in just 6-9 weeks using HeartMath training and technology. They have shown:
24% improvement in the ability to focus
30% improvement in sleep
38% improvement in calmness
46% drop in anxiety
48% drop in fatigue
56% drop in depression
One of your specialists is spirituality. Can you tell me what principles and ideas is this part of your work based on?
The way I incorporate spirituality into my counseling sessions is through the use of mindfulness practice, which is the foundation of Acceptance Commitment Therapy as detailed below. When we become more mindful in our lives we are able to see the larger perspective and that includes seeing ourselves as more than this human body, and more as a spiritual being living in this human body and having a human experience.5
I fell in love with Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) as a mindfulness-based therapy as it teaches people to unhook from the virtual reality of thoughts, and to come back to the present moment, to drop the struggle (inner resistance) against those things they do not want in their life which frees up energy to now do things that matter and give us meaning in life. ACT helps us to let go of our story and allows us to see ourselves as larger than our experiences, thoughts, and feelings.
We are spiritual beings and when we recognize that we are here on a journey back to wholeness and that we are part of the One Source, we see challenges as opportunities for growth.
What other services do you offer?
The services I am providing at this time are individual therapy through telehealth using Doxyme. I accept insurance through BCBS, Cigna, Aetna, Oxford, Optum, and MD Medicaid. I also accept cash payments at $125 per session.
