Journey to Wholeness: Lucua du Preez’s Insights on BodyTalk

In our latest MysticMag interview, we delve into the fascinating world of BodyTalk with Lucua du Preez. Continue reading to discover how her journey from psychology to business led her to a transformative practice that integrates consciousness and holistic healing.

What were your professional beginnings like and how did you get into BodyTalk?

I studied psychology at university, but in the mid-90s, psychology was mainly focused on what’s wrong with an individual. This didn’t really align with my views, as I kept asking, “What about the people who just want to do better?” At the time, I couldn’t find any answers to that question within traditional psychology.

From there, I ventured out to gain life experience and went into business. However, my interest in business wasn’t just driven by ambition, but by a fascination with how people can work together towards a common goal. While doing my MBA, someone suggested that I try BodyTalk. I gave it a shot, and after a few years of receiving BodyTalk sessions, my practitioner encouraged me to take a course in BodyTalk. So, I did.

On the first day of the BodyTalk Fundamentals course, I found it to be a natural fit for me. Most of my life had been spent studying consciousness, which has always been my true interest. In the BodyTalk Fundamentals class, everything came together for me. It showed me how consciousness could be applied in a healthcare system and how it could be used to address health in a holistic and integrated way.

For those unfamiliar with it, can you explain what BodyTalk is and how it works?

BodyTalk is a consciousness-based healthcare system. This means that it operates on the principle that everything begins with consciousness. The process starts in consciousness, which then cascades down through the mental, emotional, and vital bodies before manifesting in the physical body.

In BodyTalk sessions, the practitioner doesn’t focus on what is wrong with the client but rather on the inherent wholeness and completeness of consciousness. The aim is to identify and remove any interferences that prevent the client from experiencing their natural, whole self.

BodyTalk doesn’t involve diagnosing. Instead, it works by identifying and addressing the body’s priorities, aligning it with its innate intelligence to facilitate healing. The system views the body as dynamic and interconnected, where different systems influence each other. Additionally, BodyTalk considers the body to be holographic, meaning that every part contains the essence of the whole, thus an emotional experience can manifest physically in the body. By identifying and releasing these emotional blockages, BodyTalk helps restore the natural flow of healing within the body.

Can you walk me through a typical session?

A typical BodyTalk session can be conducted in various formats, including in-person, online, and distance (no physical contact) sessions. In an online session, which is typically conducted via Zoom or WhatsApp, the session begins with a conversation with the client to discuss their current concerns and goals. Throughout the 45–50-minute session, I focus to identify the priorities in the client’s system that need balancing. I maintain constant communication with the client and, at certain points, may ask the client to pause, breathe, and tap their head, chest, and stomach to release the identified formula through their system.

An in-person session starts with a discussion of the client’s concerns or a general conversation for the first 20 minutes. The client then lies on a bed where the session takes place. As a communicator, I tend to speak a lot to my clients sessions. This communication helps the client understand why the disruption in their system occurred, which aids in preventing its recurrence.

In a distance session, where there is no physical contact, the client sends their concerns via email or WhatsApp. I would remotely focus on the client’s energetic system without any video or physical interaction. I would then identify and stack the necessary formulas and provide feedback to the client. These sessions are noted to be remarkably accurate despite the lack of direct communication or physical presence, demonstrating the efficacy of working with the energetic body over any distance.

Across all types of sessions, the core objective remains the same: to identify and balance the priorities within the client’s system, facilitating healing through the understanding and alignment of their body-mind.

What is Vedanta?

Vedanta, with its full name being Advaita Vedanta, is a science of consciousness and reality. It’s a science of how to engage with consciousness and reality and who we actually are as awareness and consciousness, rather than identifying with the body-mind-ego complex, which is often mistaken for our true self. Advaita Vedanta systematically guides individuals to shift their identification from the transient person they perceive themselves to be towards the unchanging awareness that observes this person. In this science, the individual self is seen as dependent on awareness.

This principle is also foundational to BodyTalk. As said before, in a BodyTalk sessions, the practitioner doesn’t focus on what is wrong with the client but rather on their inherent wholeness and completeness as consciousness. The process is not about healing or fixing in the traditional sense but about restoring the client’s connection to their innate wholeness and natural state of being.

You also organize different events. What can people expect from those?

The events we organize focus on Vedanta and typically consist of a discourse where I provide knowledge about our true nature and how it interacts with the world around us. During these sessions, I delve into topics like who we are at our core and the principles of Vedanta. After the discourse, there is a Q&A segment where participants can ask questions and reflect on what was discussed, helping them gain a deeper understanding.

These events are usually topic-specific. Public events cover general topics, such as an upcoming one on “What is Enlightenment?” For more advanced students, the topics are more specialized, focusing on particular aspects of the knowledge to bring greater clarity.

Additionally, we’re also developing an app to make these teachings more accessible to a broader audience, allowing more people to benefit from this knowledge.

Is there anything else about your work that you’d like to share that we haven’t covered?

I would like to add that at the core of any healing is the deeper reality that we are not on a journey to become whole; we are already whole and complete as we are. There is a prevalent tendency in the healing world to focus on identifying what’s wrong and then fixing it. This approach works from the bottom up, often missing the fundamental understanding that we are inherently whole and complete beings, shining as awareness in existence.

The more we align with this truth, the more our natural systems—body, mind, and emotions—can support this innate wholeness instead of striving to fix something that isn’t broken. Healing is not about reaching a destination; it’s about understanding and accepting that in this very moment, we are good enough, whole, and complete. When we live from this perspective, we can contribute this sense of completeness to the collective.
