Your journey from the fashion industry to feng shui and hypnotherapy is inspiring. What was the pivotal moment that led you to pursue a career focused on creating change for both people and their environments?

It’s quite unexpected. I had a great job in the fashion industry. I loved everything I did, and I felt like I was one of the fortunate people in life because I always loved my job. I never hated it, but I did experience, as most of us do, stress related to work. There were times when things were quite challenging. However, I always loved what I did, and I’m grateful every day that I still love what I do. When unexpected things happen, it’s amazing how, when your eyes are open and you’re willing, magic can happen. Sometimes, you have to really hit rock bottom before you see that there’s another option.

It will be 24 years in September since my husband, Ray, suffered a heart attack at home and didn’t survive. No one’s ever prepared, whether you know someone’s going to pass, or they’ve lived to 150 years. Everybody experiences grief in their own unique way, and it really threw me for a loop. The good thing was, I had a really good job that I could work 20 hours a day if I wanted, but I was really on the brink of burnout. I got to a point where I just couldn’t take it anymore—the grief, the darkness.

The universe had some unexpected ideas. I was with my family, and we were supposed to go to an art show. We got there, but it was the wrong day. My mom said, “Oh, let’s go to that place with all the antique shops.” So off we went, and I saw the name of a little tiny booth and read, “Reiki.” I had heard about it before. I walked in, and it was the first day this woman was full-time in her own space after leaving her corporate job. I was the first one to walk in. To me, that was a sign. I signed up right away for my Reiki sessions, & loved it so much, I became a Reiki Master Practitioner. However, I didn’t expect to heal anyone; it was just therapeutic for me.

Then I heard about Feng Shui. I found a teacher and signed up for the certification course. Before I started, she was offering mini-classes, and one night, she said, “Next week, we’ll talk about the I Ching.” I wrote it down, but I had no idea what it was. When I got home, as I often did during sleepless nights, I wandered into my husband’s office, looked at the bookshelf, and found a book titled The Illustrated I Ching. I almost fell off my feet. I felt I was meant to meet this woman and study this work—another sign.

Fast forward, I completed a full year of certification that included environmental space clearing and personal energy clearing as part of an elective supplementary course. I was fascinated with “dowsing” & began to travel around the world on my vacations to study.

One day, I thought, “What would it be like if I could leave my job and do this full-time?” By then, I was teaching in the evenings at schools, had clients on the weekends, and wondered, “How cool would it be?” My mom, who lived in Florida, used to say, “Why are you taking all these classes? I hope you don’t quit your job.” I would just laugh because, through Feng Shui “people studies”, I understood where she was coming from. I knew she would never have taken the path I was on—she would have gone a different way. It wasn’t good or bad, just who she was.

The day came when the President of our group at Liz Claiborne moved to the Liz Claiborne flagship division. She wanted to know where the “Lois” was in the group, and they said, “You’ve got the whole manufacturing team.” She replied, “No, I want her.” So, they created a position for me where I became a consultant. I wasn’t accountable for all the pricing or working with design to settle all the styles and set up the programs. I was now a consultant, working with the New Jersey designers and the Liz Claiborne designers. It was the beginning of learning to detach myself from the loop I had been caught up in.

On a trip with the Liz Claiborne designers, we began in Seoul, Korea, then flew to Shanghai. Upon arrival at the hotel,  the concierge asked for our passports. I couldn’t find mine. I looked everywhere, but it was nowhere to be found. I thought I might have lost it at customs since we had just arrived. I gave the concierge my information and said, “Good things happen to people. I have faith. I’m going out to dinner and will be back at 11.” He just smiled as if to say, “This lady must be crazy.” However, I just would not accept any other outcome. My new boss asked me, “What are you going to do?” I said, “They’re going to find my passport & our trip will continue, there is no other outcome I will accept.” It was challenging to hold on to that belief, but I did. When I got back to the hotel, the concierge said, “Good news, good things happen to people.” He quoted me! They had found my passport. That was it. I knew it was time—that was my sign to go.

I waited. My direct report was traveling after the holidays, and someone said, “No, don’t leave. They’re going to let you go. They’re restructuring.” I said, “You know what? I’m going out on my terms, in my time, my decision.” I thought about it. I had never been let go or fired from any job. I had always left on my terms. So, off I went in 2007, and I’ve never looked back. My life has been a continuous journey of exploration. Every time I learn something, I can’t keep it to myself, my mission is to share.

All the things I learned during that time—beginning with Reiki, the Feng Shui & Energy Clearing ( dowsing) —were so profound, my life became so different. While I was still working, I would ring my chimes 3 times every morning when I got to my office. In the past, I would come in through the cafeteria, grab a coffee, and before I even had my coat off, I’d turn on the answering machine and hit the computer, start the day as if I was standing on one foot. Now, I would arrive at my office, hang up my coat, put my purse away, sit down, ring the chimes three times, and then start my day.

One day, I forgot to ring the chimes, and I heard from down the hall, “Hey, ring those chimes! Where are the chimes?” People even invited me to bring my chimes to meetings. Designers would say, “Hey, come into our cubicle. We’re having an argument here, or we’re having a bad day—ring those bells!” I didn’t tell anyone what to do; I just became myself. That’s how I learned that our greatest influence is who we are, not what we say. It’s just how we show up, and that has been my mantra as I continue on.

We’re not perfect—not every day is all happy and carefree. There are ups and downs, ins and outs, but there are always choices and ways to pull yourself back up. That was the transition of how I just did it… And it seemed like I just did it, but I didn’t. There was a part of me that was already ready, and that’s how the whole subconscious connection to ourselves comes into play.

You often say, “I Feng Shui People, Places, and Things.” Could you elaborate on how this philosophy guides your practice and how it can help others follow their dreams?

What I realized during my first year of Feng Shui certification was how much I discovered about myself. I hadn’t given myself enough credit before. I came to understand that based on who I am and my unique elemental makeup, there were reasons behind certain things in my life. For instance, there’s a reason why I prefer staying up late and find it challenging to get up early. It’s not because I’m lazy or crazy; it’s simply part of who I am.

There was also a reason why, after being married for 19 years, I had never bought a complete bedroom set. I could never find one I liked, so I kept waiting for that perfect set to come along. No one ever told me I had to buy a bedroom set, but growing up, I noticed that my parents, as well as the parents of my friends, all had one. In my mind, that was just what you did. Inspired by Feng Shui, I decided to buy a bed, I found one I loved. A year later, I bought end tables, and later, I purchased a dresser. That’s when I realized: I’m not a “bedroom set” kind of person. I’m not supposed to compare myself to others. I’m meant to be inspired by others but to do things my way—to be myself, on purpose.

Now, whenever I feel stuck or like I’m not moving forward, or when a project isn’t progressing, I remind myself: I’m not a “bedroom set” kind of person. Am I expecting things to be the way I think they’re supposed to be, based on someone else’s life? Instead, I ask myself, how can I take inspiration and still be true to myself?

That was a turning point for me. When I work with people in Feng Shui, it’s not just about arranging their space; it’s about understanding what’s in their space, how they relate to it, and who they are as individuals. My mission is to help people create the life they deserve by mastering the art of being themselves.

After many years of doing space clearing, personal clearing, chakra meditations, hypnotherapy, and other Feng Shui practices, I created a new six-week program that combines all these elements. My goal is to help people be themselves on purpose and to give them the tools to create the life they deserve. We all deserve to be happy, healthy, and prosperous.

Some spiritual people may believe that they should do everything for free or give everything away. But who does that really help? We all have value, and when I value you, I want to respect your value. When we value ourselves, we deserve to be healthy in every way—financially, physically, and environmentally—and to honor being true to ourselves.

I believe it’s so important for people to honor themselves and to be themselves on purpose. That’s what people love about “you”—who “you” are and how “you” show up in the world.

What type of services do you offer?

I offer Feng Shui services for people’s homes, offices, or businesses. When I perform Feng Shui consultations, I always consider the individual as well. I understand the person based their 5 element astrology of their unique elemental archetype, which I find fascinating. What I love about 5 element astrology is that your face, body type, and how you express yourself—even how you dress—are all part of your nature. We’re not just a set of calculations. We can adapt like chameleons, depending on what’s happening in our lives.

Many of my clients have annual 5 element astrology consultations. When I provide Feng Shui services for a home or office, I include that aspect so we can better understand who you are, support you where you are, and help you achieve where you want to go. It’s all about realizing your potential.

I work with my clients in person & I also have clients around the world, meeting on zoom. I’m based in New Jersey, but I have clients in Mexico, Florida, North Carolina, the West Coast, Canada, and even Europe. Feng Shui isn’t limited to just one location.

In addition to Feng Shui, I also offer environmental space clearing through dowsing. I use dowsing rods or L-rods to assess what type of disturbances need to be addressed. I can assess is it related to geopathic stress, related to the earth, or perhaps the metaphysical energy of the people in space? I evaluate the correct balance of yin and yang for the individuals in that space at that time. Once assessed, I create an environment that suits them.

I also clear people because we often pick up energy, like “hitchhiker energy.” We’re like human tuning forks, and some of us are more sensitive to what we pick up than others. Some of us are more affected by things without knowing why, and when someone says, “Oh, you’re too sensitive, get over it,” I say, “No.” We can learn how to manage being sensitive to the energy, noise, and chaos around us—especially considering the unprecedented events of the past five years. We’ve witnessed behavior we never expected, so it’s crucial not to get swept away by it.

Some clients choose to combine Feng Shui with the clearing package. I also offer personal clearing tune-ups, and I have clients who receive monthly remote personal clearings to help them maintain their energy. Additionally, I conduct a weekly guided clearing meditation. Through my studies, including Reiki, which was my first step, I’ve learned to manage energy without taking it personally or creating more drama.

My weekly meditation circles are essentially clearing meditations. Each session has a topic  I call “circle talk,” followed by a 20-minute guided clearing meditation based on who shows up, where we are, and what’s happening at the time. Everything is recorded, and my regular participants, whom I call my “frequent fliers,” receive all the recordings. They now have a library they can refer back to.

Another offering that’s near and dear to my heart is my six-week program, “Create the Life You Deserve: Mastering the Art of Being Yourself.” This program combines everything I do, and participants apply to be selected for the group. The graduates are now part of a membership where we meet twice a month on Zoom to continue the journey, assess where we are today, and plan where we’re going.

It’s been my joy to see how this idea has blossomed into a wonderful way to serve others and help people create the best life they can.

In your experience, what role does the subconscious mind play in achieving balance and clarity in one’s life, and how do you use hypnosis and NLP techniques to tap into this powerful resource?

Feng Shui is absolutely connected to our subconscious. On a very basic level, our environment is constantly engaging in a conversation with our subconscious, whether we realize it or not. For example, as you’re driving home, before you even arrive, your subconscious is already anticipating what’s waiting for you. Perhaps the door sticks, or the kids have left their shoes scattered, causing you to trip. The mess is there, and your subconscious knows it. Even before you get home, your mood and body begin to change, and when you walk in the door, you might feel agitated. You’ll blame it on having a bad day or the traffic, but it’s actually the experience you’ve created through repeated patterns.

When we choose the conversation we want with our space, even when we’re not paying attention, we are in a more beneficial state rather than experiencing what we claim we’re ignoring. My journey into hypnosis began unexpectedly. During a meditation class, a colleague mentioned that I was essentially practicing hypnosis. I was surprised and decided to learn more about it. Coincidentally, I found an advertisement for a course in the same magazine where one of my articles was published. I called the instructor, and the course was starting the following week, with space available for me. That was the beginning of my journey into hypnosis.

The teacher I studied with specialized in what he called “parts therapy.” This approach involves connecting with a part of ourselves that is responsible for a particular pattern of thinking or behavior. We can then honor that part and give it a new role, effectively reprogramming that pattern. I have accumulated about 400 hours of education in various types of hypnotherapy, including past life regression therapy and NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming). My approach is gentle & more conversational. NLP provided me with tools  to gently help people find their way.

Different approaches work for different people, and my gentle, conversational style attracts those who resonate with it. My focus is on helping people change who they are in a sustainable way. I’ve found all of these techniques to be fascinating, and when I had the opportunity to study past life regression, I was deeply intrigued. I was fortunate to study & become certified with Dr. Brian Weiss, “Father” of Past Life Regression techniques. It was an incredible experience to learn how we can unravel issues we may be carrying, whether they stem from this life or another, or even if they seem imagined. The key is recognizing something and finding a way to manage and heal it, so it doesn’t weigh us down.

Everything I do is interconnected, and all of these techniques are part of my approach. Whether I’m offering Feng Shui consultations or energy clearing, clients benefit from all of my training. I’ve learned how to engage with people, listen to who they are, and ask the right questions to determine how I can best serve them. Sometimes, clients surprise themselves with the answers they find through these questions.

You specialize in “Parts Therapy” and Past Life Regression. How do these techniques help your clients release old patterns and behaviors that no longer serve them, and what is the most common issue you encounter?

The most common issue I encounter is a lack of confidence, closely followed by the mindset of “I can’t.” People often feel blocked, believing they don’t have the resources or the ability to achieve their goals. They might say, “I’ll try,” but in reality, when we say “try,” we’ve already decided it’s not happening. To reframe this, I encourage clients to remove “try” from their vocabulary. Instead of saying, “I’ll try to get there,” I ask them to consider, “Do you want to do it? Do you choose to do it, or do you choose not to?” This simple shift in language helps people understand the choices they have, even when it feels like they have no control.

These gentle reframing techniques help people change on a foundational level. Everyone is drawn to different methods, and some people particularly enjoy the experience of a past life regression. This process allows them to confront thoughts they may have been avoiding due to insecurity. In a safe environment, they can allow these thoughts to surface, and we can have a productive conversation about them.

Similarly, when it comes to Feng Shui and connecting with the subconscious through elements in their space, there’s no judgment. The way I practice Feng Shui is not about superstition or labeling something as “bad.” The only “bad” Feng Shui is when something isn’t safe, which isn’t healthy. I give people the freedom to be themselves without fear. If they don’t want to follow a recommendation, I explain the principle behind it and ask how they would feel most comfortable implementing it.

For anyone reading this article, if you work with someone who gives you a feng shui recommendation, it’s important to ask, “Why do you suggest this? What does it mean?” If they can’t explain, the advice may work temporarily, but it won’t be sustainable because you won’t be connected to the process.

I empower my clients through conversation, helping them rethink how they perceive themselves and how the space around them supports their well-being. Feng Shui is not a one-time fix; it’s a fluid process. I also offer annual Chinese New Year updates, where we discuss the energy of the year and the potential adjustments one might make based on who they are, where they are, and what they want to achieve.

I want people to feel free to make changes. If they’ve chosen a color or placed something in their room but later decide they don’t like it anymore, they should feel free to change it. It’s important to recognize that it’s time for a change, based on where we are in life. All of these aspects combined give my clients and students the confidence to make choices and embrace change, to create the life they deserve, mastering the art of being themselves.
