What inspired you to become a hypnotherapist and holistic therapist, and how has your 11 years of experience shaped your approach to helping people?

In my early twenties, I first experienced Hypnotherapy when my life was at a difficult crossroads. I married young, at 18, and found myself in an abusive relationship—physically and mentally. Hypnotherapy helped me make the empowering decision to leave my husband and raise my children on my own. Since then, I went on to qualify as an accountant (FCCA), earned a Master’s in Leadership & Management, and held various financial management roles in corporate, education, and charity sectors.
Growing up, I was sensitive to spiritual energy, though I didn’t understand it at the time. My parents, concerned about my hesitation to go upstairs in our house, even took me to a psychiatrist as a teen. While they were reassured that I would “grow out of it,” years later, they told me that the previous owner of our home had hung himself on the landing. As an adult, certain traumatic experiences rekindled this sensitivity, revealing a guiding presence that helped me with images and insights. But back then, people didn’t talk openly about such experiences, and I feared sharing them might risk my children’s wellbeing.
During my time working in education, I repeatedly declined an invitation from a Reiki and Crystal Healing lecturer to join his classes, as I was focused on completing my Master’s degree. Reflecting now, I realize that exploring healing sooner could have eased my path. It was while working in further education that a health crisis shifted my perspective entirely. Following intense pressure at work and an unhealthy relationship, I developed severe bladder pain and recurrent infections. I underwent surgery, and the doctor informed me, with unsettling bluntness, that although it wasn’t cancer, I had an autoimmune condition called interstitial cystitis. He predicted a life of disability, frequent surgeries, medications, and heightened risks of anxiety and depression. Shocked by this prognosis, I decided I would not accept this future.
I took a voluntary redundancy package, giving myself a six-month break to refocus. That summer, I slowed down, spent time walking, meditated, and generally reconnected with myself. Though I sought hypnotherapy, my former hypnotherapist had retired, and I didn’t feel drawn to anyone else at the time. Around this period, I had been participating in a mediumship circle, which increased my awareness of healing modalities. I completed Reiki Level 1 with the group but didn’t practice self-healing as I felt disconnected from the energy.
Returning to work lecturing in further education, I quickly realized it wasn’t the right fit. I later took a position as Head of Student Income and Credit Control at a local university, which I found equally unfulfilling. One night, I woke up from a vivid dream, with a clear message: “You should become a hypnotherapist and help people as you were helped.” Intrigued, I mentioned this experience to someone I’d just met, who referred me to Dr. Lyn Bateman, a Hypnotherapist and trainer who lived nearby. Just a week later, I began my training with him.
A visit to a Healing Weekend event in Somerset connected me with a gifted Spiritual Healer, George Stone. His crystal and spiritual healing techniques were transformative, and I experienced a profound array of colors and sensations that left me feeling truly healed. I began visiting his healing center regularly, eventually training as a Spiritual Healer there. Later, June Wilkinson, another lovely Healer at the center, guided me through Reiki Level 2. I embraced self-healing, practicing regularly, and reaped the rewards in my health and energy.
Initially, I offered Hypnotherapy as a standalone treatment but soon felt the calling to incorporate healing into my sessions. My clients responded enthusiastically, and now most of them receive a combination of Hypnotherapy followed by Reiki. Eventually, I trained to become a Reiki Master in Japan, fulfilling a long-held dream. My partner David and I even had the opportunity to climb Mount Kurama, the spiritual birthplace of Reiki, where I channeled a meaningful message for our group.
A few years ago, David and I completed Healing in Hospitals training with Angie Buxton-King (the renowned “NHS Healer”) and became Medical Reiki Masters with the late Raven Keyes (which includes supporting clients before, during and following surgery). While we have not yet been able to work alongside the surgical team in theatres in Wales we’ve supported clients with various health challenges, including cancer and major surgeries. It’s incredibly fulfilling to witness how healing can ease anxiety prior to the operation, reduce pain and enhance the body’s natural recovery process afterwards.
I also noticed a growing number of clients seeking help for spiritual issues like hearing voices, energy blockages, and spiritual awakening. So, David and I both trained with Dr. Terence Palmer in Spirit Release Therapy (SRT), which we now incorporate into our practice. We conduct Spiritual Health Checks, where I act as the medium, and David as the therapist. These sessions have been transformative for clients, often leading to immediate shifts, emotional clarity, and newfound life opportunities.
In 2023, we travelled to New Zealand and completed a Romiromi healing course with Māori Healer Wikitoria. This ancient healing method was an extraordinary experience, and its physical approach provided a beautiful complement to the spiritual work we were already doing. We followed this with another trip to Japan, attending the Reiki centenary celebration in Osaka and visiting sites significant to Reiki history.
My life experiences continue to shape my approach, and I am so grateful for each opportunity that has allowed me to grow in my healing practice. Today, I work with clients to manage work-related stress, overcome trauma, reduce pain, navigate life changes, and achieve spiritual cleansing. Each journey is as fulfilling as the last, and I look forward to helping others discover their potential for healing and transformation.

Could you provide more insight into the variety of holistic modalities you offer, including Reiki/Spiritual Healing, Crystal Healing, Thought Field Therapy (Tapping), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)?

When clients book a session with me, I approach each one uniquely, using a variety of tools from my toolkit to meet their individual needs. Guided by my intuition, I integrate different techniques—such as breathwork, hypnotherapy, tapping, and various forms of healing, including Reiki, Spiritual, Crystal, and Māori healing, as well as havening. I always make sure clients are comfortable with the methods we’ll be using. Most of my sessions typically begin with Hypnotherapy, followed by Healing, and are supported by principles from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). However, I’m also flexible—some clients prefer just talking therapy or only healing, and I’m more than happy to tailor sessions to meet those preferences.

How do you ensure a comfortable and non-judgmental environment for your clients, and what personalized approach do you take to address each client’s unique needs and issues effectively?

Every client is treated as a unique person and a therapy plan is created with each client based on their situation and what goals they wish to achieve. I actively listen to clients, reflect back key information to ensure my understanding is correct, I will ask relevant open questions and I am very self-aware which often includes reflecting on sessions. Our environment (beautiful garden office ‘Zen Den’ and also indoor therapy rooms) is lovely – quiet, peaceful, comfortable and easily accessible.

Could you explain more about Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and how it differs from other traditional therapies in its approach to managing thoughts, feelings, and actions?

I initially trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), but I found it wasn’t personally beneficial for me, and many of my clients had reported similar experiences. They often struggled to apply CBT techniques, especially given the demands of busy lives and the overwhelming number of thoughts we have daily—over 60,000, with up to 90% being unhelpful, negative, or harmful.
This led me to explore Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which has gained popularity and was being taught at Cardiff University. ACT differs fundamentally from CBT; rather than trying to challenge or change negative thoughts, it focuses on accepting them as they are. The goal isn’t to eliminate distress but to transform how clients relate to their thoughts and feelings. ACT teaches that thoughts are just thoughts and not necessarily true, which helps diminish their power.
Additionally, ACT incorporates mindfulness practices that promote a calm, non-judgmental approach to the mind. While traditional therapies may prioritize symptom reduction—like decreasing anxiety—ACT emphasizes living a meaningful life aligned with one’s values, regardless of the presence of distressing symptoms. This shift fosters greater psychological flexibility in clients, enabling them to navigate life’s challenges with resilience and authenticity.

You offer both in-person and online therapy sessions. How do you ensure the effectiveness of online sessions, and what benefits do clients experience from this option, especially considering the convenience and accessibility it offers?

I prefer face-to-face sessions because they allow me to create a tranquil environment where clients can fully relax and “just be” for the duration of their session without interruptions. There’s a unique energy in the space, which clients often feel as soon as they step over the threshold. I also enjoy sharing the meanings behind the various photographs and items displayed, all of which are connected to our healing journey.
That said, online sessions can be just as effective for both hypnotherapy and healing and they sense our energy in their space too. For these to be successful, clients simply need a stable internet connection and a quiet space to minimize interruptions. In case of any distractions during the session, I reassure clients that they will quickly return to full awareness, as I provide suggestions at the start of hypnosis to address this concern. It’s also important to note that people cannot get stuck in hypnosis, which is a common worry.
For Spirit Release work, while we can work in-person, most sessions are carried out remotely. This reduces the risk of energy transferring into our therapy space and allows us to gather more information in a shorter amount of time which the client can then validate.
