Lena Townsend is a psychic medium and also a certified tarot reader for more than two decades. In this interview for MysticMag tell us two impressive stories and also present us some of her many services, like the full circle reading and the couples reading session. When did you discover that you are a psychic medium and that you wanted to help people with it?
When I first became aware of my ability to see and hear spirits I was very afraid. To be perfectly honest, I thought I was mentally ill. It took many years before I would be sure I was seeing something real. When someone else witnessed a spirit in the apartment where I was living, I was determined to learn more about my skills and my spirituality. The apartment was haunted by a young girl and she was not afraid to reveal herself in front of my family and friends. My husband watched her go into the kitchen and witnessed her vanishing from sight. At that point, I knew it was real. It was still about 10 years before I began reading Tarot publicly and using my medium gifts to help others. It was never my plan to own a business as an Intuitive Reader. However, it was a calling I could not deny. My hope is that I can help others find their best spiritual path and live a balanced life in mind, body, and spirit.
I have now been reading publicly for 13 years and have been reading Tarot for 25 years. I started reading Tarot during a rough time in my life for my own spiritual guidance. I truly believe that Spirit saved me through these gifts. I do believe we are all born with psychic gifts. Some of us are very aware of these gifts early on while others take longer to develop or believe in their gifts. I do hope that through my readings and classes I can continue to help others embrace their own psychic abilities.
How was the process of studying and earning a doctorate in Metaphysics?
I spent many years studying various areas of the Metaphysical, Holistic, and Paranormal fields. I also studied multiple faith paths. These studies helped me in being able to earn my doctorate. After receiving my doctorate I began teaching more courses and workshops to help others learn many of the skills I learned while studying on my own.
The main purpose of seeking the certifications and doctorate was to allow my clients to know I was doing the studies and was qualified to practice the services I provide.
Do you have a specific reading that you remember all the time?
One of my favorite experiences is with the elderly man in the cemetery. He was a very kind man. He introduced himself and shared a story with me about visiting his wife each week there in the cemetery. He also shared a story about how he always brought her pink roses, even though she hated pink roses. He said he had made the mistake of buying them on their first anniversary. She teased him about those pink roses so much that each year, along with a real gift, he would give her pink roses. While talking with him my mother approached me and asked me who I was talking to. I turned to introduce him to her and he was gone. He was nowhere in sight. He simply vanished.
At that point I was pretty sure I was losing my mind. I told my mother I wasn’t feeling well and she assured me we would be leaving the cemetery soon. I stayed sitting on the bench while my mom continued to search for the family plots to place the Memorial Day bouquets.
Just a few minutes later and elderly woman approached the bench. She was carrying a small bouquet of pink roses. When she said hello to me I was a little hesitant to respond. However, I didn’t want to be rude so I said, “Hello.” I offered to leave and give her privacy. She began telling me a story about how her husband always brought her pink roses and now every week she brings him pink roses.
Then she said the elderly man’s name and pointed to his headstone. I was so freaked out that I quickly excused myself and walked back to my mother’s car. As soon as I got home that day, I called the local mental health center to make an appointment. This happened when I was 17 years old. I had experienced some vivid premonitions, and had seen things in the past but I was told that it was a coincidence or wasn’t real.
Now, I was convinced I was losing my mind. 8 years later I moved into a haunted apartment that would eventually awaken me to using my gifts.
I’ve found it interesting your full circle reading. What is the difference between that and other readings?
My full circle reading is designed to allow clients to receive information of things past, present, and future that may be on their path and to receive messages from loved ones that have crossed over into spirit. This reading and my Star Reading are the same but the Full Circle session allows us more time to communicate with spirits and for me to share the guidance of the cards. I believe everyone has freewill and makes their own destiny by the choices they make each moment. For this reason, I believe future events that show in the cards can often be changed.
You offer a couple’s reading session. Normally, what do couples search for in a reading like this? Or do they come completely open-minded?
The couples reading allows clients to see their relationship as individuals and together as a couple. This reading is really like 3 readings in one session. It allows us to examine things the couple may need to work on (both individually and as a couple) to maintain or grow in the relationship.
Many clients are searching for the answer to the question, “Is this my soulmate?” This reading will tell us if there is a spiritual (soul) connection between the couple. It will also tell us if a partner is cheating. Some clients have been surprised when the cards revealed their indiscretions. The cards do not simply tell us what we want to know, they tell us what we need to know at the time of the reading. It is never a good idea to keep secrets in a relationship but especially when seeking spiritual advice as a couple from a psychic.

Life is full of challenges and connecting to our Higher Power can bring light to the darkest hours. I believe that all things are possible in faith. If we seek that deeper connection we can find peace and in that stillness we find the answers we need to create a happier life. I try to encourage my clients to live life to the fullest, rest when needed, and gather with like minded friends as often as possible.
Sometimes we get so caught up in the chaos of the world that we forget to laugh or simply enjoy a moment in nature. It is so important that we live, not just exist. Being fully present in this moment brings peace. My hope is that through my sessions more people can embrace their gifts and a peaceful lifestyle.
