You speak of a strong calling in 2007 that led you to embark on your journey of self-healing. What was the catalyst for that calling, and how did it reshape your perspective on life?

When I look back there were many moments of awakening, or realizations. I can see now that each one of these moments was a signpost, illuminating the path forward. I had seemingly lost my way in life, I was at rock bottom. Somewhere deep inside I knew that if I stayed in this drug fueled reality I would reach the point of no return.

It’s hard to find the beginning of the thread of enlightening moments, but the one that springs to mind was when I found myself laying on a massage table in a hut with glass walls in the middle of a forest in California in 2007. The journey that led me there had been profound yet the best was yet to come. There was a woman with me, she was guiding me into my body using bodywork and breath. She guided me inward on a journey to reconnect with aspects of myself that had been long forgotten. Parts that I had abandoned, hidden and denied to fit into others expectations to be accepted, to stay safe. As I ventured inward I discovered buried emotions that had been too much to feel at the time and my body remembered how I had felt as a child. I had a moment of clarity of how this had affected my relationship with myself and others. Finally, in the last piece, I knew in an instant, that this work is my life calling. This is what I’ve come to do. I was 36 at that time and it seemed ridiculous that I hadn’t realized this before. The clarity was astounding and I was instantly hungry to learn more.

Your healing work emphasizes guiding others to self-heal and live from a place of love. What are some key practices or tools you use to help individuals connect with this inner source of love?

Through working with hundreds of people over many years I have witnessed the ways in which we, as humans, disconnect from ourselves, from our hearts. Life brings us a range of feelings and emotions and for many, the default is to suppress the less favorable ones. Sometimes this is very appropriate in the moment, but if we don’t go back and allow them to be felt, and give space for the energy to be integrated back into a flow state, they hold in the body causing a block or disconnect from the self. When we are in a state of flow life is good, easy and our hearts are open to feel love in abundance. I guide people into their body using touch, breath, sound and energy, with the intention of finding the places of holding, welcoming them in with love and compassion, feeling what is stuck so that flow is restored. It’s really a journey of acceptance of the self. Saying YES to you just as you are is the catalyst for transformation. It is incredibly beautiful and powerful work.

What type of services do you offer?

I offer Sacred Somatic Journeys to adults and children in one to one sessions and retreats, workshops and trainings for adults. I also hold regular circles for women where we dance and drum, laugh and cry, we have a beautiful community based on acceptance and authenticity, you can join us at any time.

In your experience, what is the most common barrier people face in reaching their full potential, and how do you support them in overcoming it?

Interestingly I was pondering this earlier today. Shame plays such a pivotal role in how we interact with the outside world. Many of us will go to great lengths to avoid feeling shame. Even to the extent of letting go of important relationships. Mostly this choice is unconscious and shame can be illusive. It’s not only uncomfortable to feel it’s also tricky, the defense it puts in place between the person and the world can be subtle, it can blend in unseen, and there is an unspoken agreement within our society that we all agree to pretend that that’s ok.  People will deny, attack and blame, anything to avoid feeling this emotion that can be debilitating. It takes courage. But when someone is holding you, with no judgment, only love, no matter how deep the shame, when it is witnessed, seen, felt, welcomed and accepted something changes, there is a shift in frequency. It is the most amazing thing to bear witness to this deeply transformational process.

In this work we are really inviting people to discover the parts of themselves that are unconscious, so in its very nature, the pieces we are looking for are hidden, in darkness and abandoned. The parts that we would rather forget, that we don’t want others to see. This work requires a willingness. Often people say they are not sure why they have come but they know there is something holding them back, or they feel stuck or life has become very uncomfortable. It requires curiosity. What might I discover on a journey back to my heart? So, in summary, if I had to pick one barrier that restricts people from reaching their full potential it would be the frequency that we call shame.

As a healer and a mother of twins, how do you balance your personal life with your professional work, and how does motherhood influence your healing practice?

Such a beautiful question, thank you. Motherhood has been a monumental awakening and healing force. It has enhanced my ability to hold others, and holding others in their process has undoubtedly had a positive effect on the way I connect and interact with my own children. A key part of Sacred Somatic Journeys is reconnecting clients with inner children. Becoming a mother has given me insight  into how and why children deny parts of themselves, and when appropriate, how to create space for these aspects of self to come back into consciousness. Into Light. I have boy/girl twins so it’s been incredible to witness how each child shows up differently in the world, their individual interpretations of the outside world, and how the outside world shows up for them. Witnessing their belief systems form. On a practical level it’s a constant navigation of doing enough but not too much!

Transformation can be both exhilarating and difficult. How do you help clients embrace the discomfort that often comes with personal growth and change?

Yes, indeed! In this work we talk about being in a circle or on the table as a practice for life. They are opportunities to feel the uncomfortable pieces in a loving held space, welcoming them with open arms so that when they come again, they don’t feel so daunting, they are recognised. From this place it is possible to allow life to flow through. It’s a continuous dance! The key part being that there is an acceptance of feelings and emotions, they are what makes the human experience rich and vast. Being willing to feel expands our capacity for life.
