Can you share more about your transformative experience in 2011 when you experienced spontaneous rising of kundalini? How did it influence your decision to shift from nonprofit leadership to becoming a healer?
It took me by surprise as I hadn’t heard about it before experiencing it. It took about a year to figure out what it was—the heat in my root chakra that also filled me with surges of powerful energy. Sometimes I could feel the heat on the chair when I stood up. At the time, my practice was vinyasa yoga and I hadn’t studied kundalini yoga or anything like it. This lasted a few months before I entered a state of depression for about a year, and again it spontaneously returned. This time it was a lot more intense—the palms of my hands and soles of my feet would burn at night. My spine would feel like it was lighting up and currents were zipping up through it and tingling sensations would spread over my whole body and I would enter a paralysis state. I was doing a lot of affirmations to help my depression and there were some moments when suddenly the energy would just completely shift—from feeling miserable one moment to feeling as if another being was present in the room and offering comfort the next. I didn’t have the discernment at the time to know who I was interacting with, but it felt very gentle and guardian-like, so it opened me up to working with spirits. It felt like kundalini opened that gate. The energy went dormant about twice for over a year before I started to feel it cycling through me daily. It completely influenced my decision to become a healer. Everything changed in my life during this time. Dedication to yoga and spiritual practices increased, and determination to work through my own trauma became the forefront of my life. I studied different healing modalities while working in the nonprofit sector for about 11 years while following this path. What I would say for people who are experiencing kundalini is that it’s nothing to fear—there are ways to manage the process and foster some stability in your system, such as walking in nature and eating ground foods. I love helping clients nurture this process as well. It’s beautiful, it’s transformative, and its unfoldment varies for each individual, because it’s the Divine working its way through the unique constellation of each human soul.
Your journey involved various certifications in massage therapy, Reiki, and. yoga, as well as extensive training in shamanic and spiritual healing. How do these diverse modalities complement each other in your practice and how do they contribute to your overall approach as a healer?
The underpinning of everything in my practice is yoga. I feel the primary reason I am here and my favorite thing about life is being connected with the Divine and performing service in the world that allows me to help others as a way of showing devotion to the Divine because that energy exists in all beings. The feeling of being in union is experienced in client sessions, which are a way of offering love freely in an unconditional and safe way. I offer myself up to my guiding spirits and become a conduit to bring those energies forward for the benefit of the client, so that is the biggest part of what I do. On top of that underpinning, the most prominent skills I work with are the shamanic and spiritual healing techniques. These include ways of essentially traveling into other spaces, other places, other worlds, for the benefit of a client, to do a soul retrieval or power retrieval, as well as receiving spirit messages while being present for the client. In my personal practice, I mostly engage in shamanic and ritual work involving herbs, candles, the elements, ritual baths, and communion with plants, animals, and other energies.
What type of services do you offer?
I offer somatic spiritual healing sessions that include dialoguing with the body and accessing held emotions, traumas, cords, contracts, and so on. In these sessions I send reiki as well as other healing energies. I contacted my ancestors and other guides. These sessions can address trauma from early childhood, time in utero, the birth experience, and past lives, and they can also heal trauma that we carry from our ancestors as well as cultural energies. Through these healing sessions, we may dissolve a cord, release an energetic attachment, do a power retrieval, renegotiate an agreement, or reframe a limiting belief. Every session is unique based on the individual and what they are seeking healing for.
These healing sessions can also help people who are doing medicine work and processing a lot of traumas or experiencing expansion in an intense way. They can allow clients to clear some of the material that has risen to the top at an ayahuasca ceremony, for example. To assist those who work with plant medicine, I offer integration sessions in which we prepare for their medicine journey, and I assist with cleansing and clearing practices, altar creation, and ritual practices that can aid the client during their journey. I also help clients integrate the journey afterwards by helping them process material that has arisen, and this can involve incorporating some type of healing work into a session or creating a healing practice or ritual that the client can perform on their own to more fully land after the medicine journey.
I also offer natal chart, transit, and progression readings based in Western astrology.
How do you integrate astrology into your spiritual healing practice? In what ways does astrology provide insights or guidance for your clients, and how has it enriched your own understanding of the healing process?
A lot of clients have shared that finding out the details of their charts, including their strongest and weakest elements, and which planetary deities they are most closely aligned with, has helped them to resolve some of their longstanding questions about their lives, their patterns, their ways of viewing things that may be challenging at times. I’ve received a lot of support around this from prior healing clients and so I offer astrology readings as well from that healing perspective that if an individual can really nurture their chart and learn with it over time and grow with it over time it can be an asset rather than a limitation. It can be a tool for expansion because of course we can all surpass or transcend our charts, so to speak. It helps clients if an element is weak to learn how to bring that element into their life through connecting with nature.
There are spiritual practices that can assist with whichever element or energy needs support. This support can include working with planetary deities. Some of my clients with very sensitive moon signs or prominent moons in their charts, especially clients with a lot of water, have responded positively to becoming aware of the moon cycle and noticing how they feel during it, and taking spiritual baths after the full moon or right before the new moon, whatever feels right for them, but it helps them really connect with that energy in a supportive way while also caring for their energetic bodies.
In terms of my own understanding of the healing process, astrology shows how a person is a composite of many different energies and forces, some of which they may not be aware of. I do not view the charts as destiny as much as they are a type of road map that highlight where opportunities and blockages may exist. In an astrology session, a client will often have an “Aha!” moment regarding a pattern or blockage that they would like to address in a future healing session. While some clients choose to do this, I do not myself reference a client’s natal chart or transits prior to a healing session, as I encourage clients to present with their own feelings about what they would like to work on for their sessions. This allows the healing work to be body-based and intuitive for both of us.
Can you elaborate on the concept of cord dissolving and its significance in spiritual healing? How does this practice contribute to the release of energetic ties and promote healing on a deeper level?
Cord dissolving starts with the premise that we acknowledge that we have energetic cords to other people that are built up over time. Some of our cords are healthy. For example, if we have a healthy marriage, we would like to maintain that cord over time with our partner. These cords are often what allow us to tune into their feelings and sense what’s going on with them. We might start to read each other’s thoughts, and this can be a result of coroding some beneficial qualities of it—energetic support, emotional support, love, those feelings flowing back and forth between us.
When doing cord work, it is helpful to start by feeling into our body, noticing if there’s someone in our life that we don’t want to be connected to anymore. Perhaps we happen to know for sure that we’re not in resonance anymore or that they are causing us distress by their actions or things they’re saying about us or to us, and we’ve identified that this is a relationship in our life that is no longer helpful for our growth. We sit with our body and identify where in our body this person is attached to us, and tune into that, and feel it, and mindfully imagine what this cord might look like, how strong it might be, and any qualities it might have. In sessions I go deeper with clients to dialogue with the energies involved and with the client. If the client is ready to cut or dissolve this cord, then we can do that work and release those energies.
Another thing that might happen is that we feel that a relationship has gone sideways, the dynamics have gone completely off, we’re not feeling good, the person we’re in relationship with isn’t feeling good, we might break up, we might stop talking to each other, we might take space. In that separation, it can be possible to dissolve a cord, and later, if the individuals want to join again in some type of friendship or relationship, a new cord can be established. This process is very helpful on many levels. It allows us to go much deeper with our healing. Often cords will connect to a limiting belief, some type of contract or agreement that we may have made with the person corded to us, so a deeper process we can go into in sessions is releasing of contracts.
Another thing that can happen with cords is that a client can be giving energy to the other person through that cord and they can feel depleted, tired, off center, and less powerful, and once this cord is severed and sealed off, the client can start to circulate their own energy and bring more of their own energy back into their center and allow that energy to promote healing within, and really be in their own power, so it’s an incredible practice.
With your background in energy medicine, how do you see the connection between our energetic well-being and physical health?
Everything is energy at its base and the physical body is the densest energy so the tangles, the knots, the restrictions, become apparent in the physical body. That’s what is manifest clearly in this realm, the densest body, and those points of disconnection, points of pain and restriction, often start in our spiritual bodies, and they draw down into the physical body over time, so repeated patterns, negative self-perception, limiting beliefs, can contribute to the ill health of the physical body. It can weigh down the physical body, so recurrent thoughts that a person can’t get out of their mind, just circling through the same problems, over and over, takes a lot of vitality and energy out of the physical body. These thoughts or feelings can be associated with an early childhood event, something that happened in their mother’s womb, or from a past life that’s coming forward in the physical body to be healed. This is just my opinion, I am not a doctor or medical practitioner, I just want to make that clear. I will often support clients in also seeking support from a medical practitioner if they have ailments that are chronic or severe. In my practice I can say that many symptoms have come forward in the physical body as issues that are ready to be healed and released. It could be fatigue, aches and pains, or injuries, and digging into its origins helps resolve the energetic blockages that formed at that time.
Many issues that clients share with me really root into early childhood in this life. There are so many experiences from early life that arise in the body as symptoms later in life and rather than be disheartened by this, or discouraged, I view this as an opportunity to give that inner child the healing that they didn’t receive at the time, the encouragement, the nurturing, the love, the attention, the validation, that they didn’t receive at the time, and this happens on many spiritual levels in these healings, so there’s an emotional component, there’s a mental component, there’s a physical component, and there is the je ne sais quoi that is the spiritual component.
There’s an ability to connect with the energy of the client and this does transcend what we know in this reality as space time and the souls essentially connect for the healing session on another plane, and this work is very deep and powerful, and it can have very sudden results afterwards. After a session a client could feel tired, achy, or ill for several days or a week, but what happens over time is that they tend to improve. This can happen for many reasons—a client can release a stuck pattern, they can release trauma, and part of releasing can involve feeling it deeply so the feelings of terror, abandonment, anger, rage, pessimism, loneliness, these feelings can arise after a healing session. On the converse, the client may not feel much at all for days or even weeks. Slowly their life just changes in different ways because that pattern or trauma is no longer being triggered.
It’s very powerful work but it is the kind of practice in which the client gets the most out of it the more they put in. I can’t stress this enough. These healing sessions, they work both ways—my spirits and abilities intersect—but the more the client digs in and brings their own will and intention, it’s absolutely incredible, and many patterns can be resolved, and life can really start to unfold, and this opens pathways for people that they may not have imagined. They begin over time with this type of healing to tune into the supportive and helpful energies around them, and they start to work in harmony with the world. That’s been my experience and the feedback I’ve received from clients. But I will share that the deeper a client can go into feeling states, the more a client is able to surrender to the process, to be with the unknown, to really be with feelings like fear, shame, worry, embarrassment, terror, the more courage a client is able to bring, the more powerful the results will be, so there’s really a range of results that can occur. Clients have reported pain lessening and going away after sessions, increased vitality, an ability to exercise again, so the results vary based on the depth of what we’re working with and how many sessions it might take to work through.
