MysticMag has the absolute pleasure of chatting with Heather Cohen from Wedding Astrology & Tarot about her work practices, views and experiences. I myself was privileged enough to have my own personal reading which offered me insights into my individual path, as well as how certain of my energies and challenges can be harnessed to create a more fulfilling and positive life experience.
Can you tell us about your journey to becoming a wedding and event astrologer? How did you first discover astrology’s potential in the context of weddings and events?
After graduate school I began my career as an art therapist in San Francisco. I enjoyed being a therapist, but felt something was missing spiritually, in the work. At some point, a friend asked me if I could offer a psychic reading to someone who had experienced theft. After speaking with her briefly, I had a vision of what happened, who stole what and when and became aware for the first time that I had some psychic gifts. I did not want to work as a psychic so I decided to channel my psychic visions through the medium of astrology. I had always felt intuitively that everything in the universe was intimately connected. Astrology provided a map and mirror for that connection. How full moons and eclipses have a direct affect on our little lives here on earth fascinated me. I started doing individual readings and eventually began reading for couples. Women usually seek me out, but men end up benefiting from it as well. Western culture tends to view divination as more on the Pagan side, unlike most other cultures where it is more integrated into every day life.
When I work with couples, I explain that I am not telling them what to do or predicting the future. I simply provide information about the energies present and the possible ways they can be used. Ultimately, it’s up to the individuals to decide how to interpret and apply that information in their lives. I enjoy interacting with people, so I started doing events, which became a popular addition to weddings and parties. People appreciate the validation and reflection provided by an outside perspective. In a group setting readings provides a sense of group cohesion and bonding much like dancing together at an event. I try to avoid making definitive statements about someone’s future, as palmistry and astrology readings change as we change as individuals. So, my readings offer insight and options for consideration, rather than absolute predictions.
I emphasize self-responsibility in my readings, as it can shift what comes at you in life. Through my work, I hope to bring practical astrology and divination into people’s daily lives.
How do you approach working with couples or clients who may be skeptical or unfamiliar with astrology? How do you help them understand the value and insights that astrology can offer?
I always make sure to emphasize to my clients, especially men, that they don’t have to worry about me telling them what to do with their lives .I believe people co-create their lives with the Universe and other people. I let them know that their response to life and their sense of self-responsibility can shape their destiny. For example in Chiromancy or Palm reading, people’s palms literally change as they change, and thus their path in life changes. This usually resonates with people and makes them feel empowered rather than like helpless bystanders.
Can you walk us through a typical consultation process with a couple or client? What kind of information do you gather, and how do you use astrology to inform your recommendations and guidance?
When clients come to me for a reading, I start by reminding them that they came here as individuals with their own unique paths. I read each person’s chart individually first and then look at how their charts weave together. This is called the synastry chart. I use this to show them their partner as a separate person with their own destiny, which they can then support and get behind. I also provide emotional and spiritual support throughout the reading, not just straight astrology. It’s a very interactive process where I invite them to speak and we create something together. I’m excited when people challenge me on something that doesn’t fit because it allows us to go deeper and explore more possibilities. Sometimes things I read haven’t happened yet and it’s fun when clients come back later and say it’s happening now. There’s timing to everything, and it’s a really enjoyable experience.
Do you believe that we all create our own destiny?
I believe that we co-create our destiny based on how much responsibility we take for our actions and thoughts. However, life happens and how we react to it also plays a significant role in shaping our destiny. So, in a way, co-creation happens from day one, even subconsciously.
What can one expect from a session with Heather?
In a chart reading session, you can expect a thorough and precise analysis of the energies and challenges, both positive and negative, in your chart. I always ask how what I see in your chart plays out in your actual life. The readings are practical rather than esoteric. The focus will be on how you can use your unique qualities to experience the best possible life for yourself, and I will provide deep support and guidance to help you achieve that. This could involve various methods, such as psychic channels, messages, or visions, depending on what comes through during the session.
