When Life Gives You Lemons… - Interview with Eve Sicurella

When Life Gives You Lemons… - Interview with Eve Sicurella

Step into the realm of holistic healing with Eve Sicurella LMT as she unveils her journey from stress to self-discovery. In her enlightening MysticMag interview, Eve shares her profound insights on Reiki, bodywork, and the power of imagination, offering a roadmap for readers to reconnect with their inner wisdom and unlock the transformative potential within.

What were your professional beginnings like?

My life’s work has been renovating a relationship with my Self on my own terms, which has resulted in a ripple effect in all my relationships By exploring and engaging in holistic living practices over the years, I’ve learned to extract myself from society’s (sometimes not so) subtle influences about what is possible, how we’re supposed to look and live, as well as what we’re supposed to believe and think.

Over the years I have been unexplainably drawn to practices that have been highly instrumental in restructuring how I see, hear the messages of, and live in this world. One of those influences has been Reiki, a subtle energy practice that has proved to activate the parasympathetic nervous system. Being born under the influence of Sun in Pisces, Cancer rising, and Moon in Scorpio, my inner world tended towards emotional complexity making me highly sensitive to outside stimulus.

What can you tell me about your Reiki work?

Reiki has been influential in steadying my mind, as well as my inclination towards anxiety and worry, especially when I was younger. What I love best about Reiki is – it is something I can do for myself by a simple placement of my own healing hands on my body in various chakra centers. My favorite time to do this is before I get out of bed in the morning. I spend a few intentional moments of connecting with my body and my inner world, then set my mind’s trajectory towards how I will approach the day. Repetition of this practice has soothed my nervous system, connected me with “God/Source” and reinforced my insight that I have control over what I think, feel, and do. Sometimes I’ll do it before bed if I’m wound up from the day’s events and before you know it, I’ve drifted off to sleep. Reiki is so powerful it has been invited into many cancer treatment protocols due to its calming, pain-relieving, and balancing nature.

While I’ve never been able to reconcile via my “left brain” the reasons how and why Reiki works, my “right brain” gets it. Although we do not yet have the technology to analyze and validate scientifically the effects of Reiki, could it be as simple as the compassionate, gentle touch of one being on another with the intentional acknowledgment “You are a perfect Divine Being and I see you where you are”? Imagine if we could each feel that within the depths of our being when interacting with another, and how that might influence our ability to present in this often complicated world.

How did you get into bodywork and can you share a few details about that part of your practice?

The body is our vehicle for experiencing life and as such, is subject to physical strain from repetitive motion, generalized lifestyle physical activity, and even trauma. In my prior career as a paralegal, I experienced physical stress from being on the phone (in those days we held the phone between our ear and shoulder), sitting and typing all day as well as mental density from deadlines and frustrated clients. I started going for shiatsu sessions at some point and after a time, began to wonder why more people did not know about the benefits of bodywork which included relief of pain as well time to chill-lax and explore a vast inner world not even acknowledged because of stressed thought patterns.

When it was time for me to change careers, I knew that bodywork would be my next vocation so I enrolled in massage school. For the past 26 years, I have served the local community by providing a space of soothing tranquility where pain and stress are unwound and rewired. One of the most evocative feedback statements I’ve received is, “This is the best part of my week”. I don’t take that to mean it’s because of anything I did, rather, that the individual made a choice in the direction of self-care that made them feel really good.

What ideas and principles do you base your life coaching on?

I eventually expanded my services to include practices for the mind such as guided imagery, psychosynthesis life coaching, and life coaching. I believe we are hardwired with abilities and gifts to support ourselves as well as the collective. Many of us become sidetracked (myself included) so we wander, separated from the voice of our inner wisdom, not in a job and/or relationship(s) that allow us to express the best of ourselves, and disconnected from a greater sense of purpose. Each training I took led me deeper into my own motivations for my actions and behaviors. It was as if someone turned on a light inside my mind and soul, opening the door to reconnect with trust and engage with myself and others in aligning and expressing my true sense of value and purpose.

The mind and imagination co-exist in what appear to be opposing realities when in fact, they can work together as collaborators. The mind seeks to make sense of things and put them in order while imagination is the place where we can connect with images arising from seemingly nonsensical, disorderly content. Muhammad Ali once said “The man who has no imagination has no wings” and Einstein said, “Imagination is more important than knowledge”. I agree with both of them. The best ideas don’t come only from the mind, they are inspired and fueled by imagination where we fly out of our boxes on glorious wings and get spontaneously creative. In guided imagery, psychosynthesis life coaching, and life coaching, we are encouraged to connect with imagination, bring those insights to the light of day, and decide if this is a wisdom path we will choose to walk upon. Coaching is a way of moving forward from where you are now into the places that you dream of yet perhaps don’t have the confidence or insight to get there.

Using my imagination to bring forth emanations from my unconscious, I’ve connected with aspects of my inner world including Busy Bea who tends to be controlling and imperious, the polar opposite of which is lax and a doormat. If I can find the perfect sweet spot between controlling and lax, imperious and doormat, I’m in the creative, own-my-self territory. The lessons of Busy Bea have enlightened me about how these attributes serve and/or hold me back so when I become aware of either polarity, I can take mental steps to move towards the middle of them.

Can share a memorable success story?

My greatest success story has been mySelf in that I’ve learned:

It’s the journey, not the destination                     Forgiveness of self & others is crucial

The importance of self-care                                     Patience with the process of life

Accountability for my actions                                 Don’t mistake kindness for weakness

How to communicate with my inner voice       Spending time in nature is the best RX

How to be true to my desires & needs                Dream big & take that first step

I’m always supported & loved                                 How to critically listen

I know myself best                                                          Give others a chance

Discipline is good                                                            When life gives you lemons…

Do you have any special message for our readers?

The intelligence that creates life itself is hardwired into us at birth. Our senses and nervous system enable us to interpret clues from the outside world and yet, we often don’t trust our interpretation. This is where we begin to doubt ourselves and find ourselves in places where we don’t feel at home or our best. Bodywork, Reiki, and guided imagery/coaching have all been instrumental in bringing me back to the center of being. I am learning that all my answers lie within me… the same can be true for each of us.
