Michael, what led you to establish Elevated Therapy, and how has your approach to hypnotherapy and energy healing evolved over the years?
Back in the early 1990`s, I wanted to have a service name that fully represented my work other than my own name. I eventually chose “Elevated Therapy ®” for the name of my work. A name I devised myself which is officially recorded and a registered trademark in the UK.
I wanted it to represent something original, strong, suggestive and inherently distinctive.
My work and help for people is practiced on a Mind, Body and Spiritual level.
Through the Body with Hands on Healing, Reiki and Energy Work, through the Mind using Psychotherapy and Hypnotherapy and with Spirit using my Metaphysical Science work.
My work can be seen as combination therapy or polytherapy, a therapeutic approach that uses more than one modality.
I asked Spirit at the time to help out and confirm this name (Elevated Therapy) as being the right name for my work with people. I looked out for signs in my life to show me this further or again confirm this name for my work. This was confirmed for me through coincidences (serendipity) through finding or creating interesting or valuable things by chance and through dreams and meditation, and people`s reaction to it.
My approach to hypnotherapy and energy healing has evolved over the years by becoming more creative through years of experience and the feedback from clients.
My viewpoint and understanding has expanded through my experience which essentially allows for more “creativity” and flow allowing me to come up with new ideas all the time, and use this creativity to produce something continuously moving forward and unique as part of Elevated Therapy ®.
Can you explain how the integration of NLP, hypnotherapy, and energy work in your practice helps clients achieve holistic healing?
The integration of NLP, hypnotherapy, and energy work in my practice helps clients achieve holistic healing by realigning, redesigning and reprogramming their life by addressing the physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual parts of health where there are challenges.
Our life is a construction of our past learnings, feelings and experiences.
In other words, learnings from lived experience through our mind and senses which are developed through our lifetime.
We then act from these learnings through an action or reaction in our day to day life.
These learnings, whether helpful or not, are the base of our current and future life.
Traditional approaches do not usually provide a complete solution to the needs of the client. I treat every individual as unique, I work on understanding the foundation of an individual’s wellbeing and help in reprogramming the old patterns and programmes creating their challenges in a bespoke way whilst considering the individual as an entire system.
How do you help clients overcome skepticism about alternative therapies, particularly in areas like energy healing and spiritual therapy?
Basically, I believe I am always gracious and empathetic, and work to develop trust between the client and myself and communicate my vision and benefits clearly and compellingly.
I show how my thoughts and ideas fit into the bigger picture and how a particular alternative therapy approach such as energy healing and spiritual therapy can potentially help heal or solve a problem, create an opportunity, or improve a situation for them to consider.
Sometimes it could be said that the underlying skepticism might be more about them and less about me and alternative therapies. I may put forward some questions of my own around their doubts or perhaps fears to address these first with them.
I always acknowledge concerns, and dispel misperceptions on the topic of alternative therapies, particularly in areas like energy healing and spiritual therapy.
What unique challenges and rewards have you encountered while running a practice that combines conventional and alternative therapies?
I guess the challenges I have come across over the years for alternative therapies are often financial barriers making it cost-prohibitive for many and completely out of the range of people from socioeconomically deprived backgrounds . Alternative therapies in the United Kingdom are mostly found in the private sector making their cost a deterring factor for some whilst conventional therapies can be found through the UK National Health Service – NHS (free to patients at point of contact).
Another challenge can be discouragement sometimes from the mainstream and also health insurance providers. The support for alternative therapies varies amongst conventional medical practitioners who are trained in the biomedical sciences.
Typically I have noticed through the years that medical doctors and conventional medical practitioners do not encourage their patient’s use of alternative therapies.
However, that is beginning to slowly change a little now for the better, and particularly so, where some of these doctors and conventional medical practitioners have been patients themselves of alternative therapies.
The rewards of running a practice that combines conventional and alternative therapies I see as two-fold.
For my clients through partnership, it helps them feel better, and feel more in control where they take a more active role in their treatment and recovery.
They like the idea that alternative therapies are client-centered and seem natural and non toxic.
They get a lot of comfort and satisfaction from talk and time that alternative therapies offer, and feel supported and cared for. This helps improve their quality of life by creating something positive and staying positive.
For me personally, it gives me immense job satisfaction when I get to help others get better.
I also love meeting new people and learning new things from each client.
Working with people of different ages and backgrounds provides me with different perspectives I can use and reuse to relate to and help further clients. I am a pupil in a classroom every day !
How does your work in metaphysical and spiritual healing intersect with mental health, and how do you tailor these practices to individual needs?
Metaphysical and Spiritual Healing and Mental Health isn’t one-size-fits-all of course.
My work with people can be influenced by various factors, including culture, gender, sexuality, socioeconomic status, and more. This interconnected web of identities shapes how individuals experience and navigate mental health and spiritual challenges which can have a profound impact on their mental well-being outcomes.
My work and approach ensures that everyone receives respect and equitable treatment and clients are given the understanding and support they deserve within my work, be it in metaphysical and spiritual healing and mental health or any combination of these.
Understanding people’s identities, potential layered experiences and their desired outcomes is crucial in providing effective and inclusive spiritual and mental health care.
I believe that people are inherently motivated toward achieving positive psychological and / or spiritual functioning, so by taking a client centered, or person centered approach with each client according to their needs and circumstances, allows them to actively be present in each therapy session, while I act mainly as a guide or a source of support for them through empathic understanding and seeing their viewpoint as if I were them and then guiding them to see how their feelings, thoughts, choices, and actions affect each other.
This ensures that people’s preferences, needs and values guide clinical decisions, and provide care that is respectful of and responsive to them.
