David Furlong’s Guide to Healing Your Inner World

David Furlong’s Guide to Healing Your Inner World

In the latest MysticMag interview,  we sit down with David Furlong to delve into his fascinating journey from town planning to spiritual healing. With a background deeply rooted in spiritual practices since childhood, David shares how his early experiences and subsequent professional path led him to become a prominent figure in the world of energy healing and spirit release. Enjoy!

What were your professional beginnings like and what led you down this spiritual path?

My journey really started in my childhood, because my parents believed in spiritual healing. I grew up with a belief that there was a spiritual power we could all access, that could transform our life. I witnessed this in my childhood, and it left a lasting impression. I also had several psychic experiences that led me to become aware of another dimension or reality. When I left college, I started my professional training in Town Planning and then went on to run my own practice in planning and architecture.

Alongside my professional work, my fascination for spiritual work led me to explore different teachings, such as the work of Rudolf Steiner and Theosophy. In my early twenties, I met up with a small group who were interested in developing their psychic skills, through healing, meditation and mediumship. They had contacted an inner plane teacher who channelled information about the spiritual dimension and our place in the universe, which provided a rationale for another way of seeing the world. Eventually, this group went on to found the College of Healing in 1981, and I was one of the founding tutors. The college was based at the Runnings Park conference centre where I was Managing Director. My time then was devoted to running the centre, teaching healing methods, further developing my psychic skills, and seeing clients. I also took on the role of Director of the Wrekin Trust founded by Sir George Trevelyan, so I was very busy. This work overload eventually led to the break-up of my marriage, and I left Runnings Park in 1991 and focussed then on running training programmes in spiritual development and healing. I would add that over this period I had come to recognise that souls could become ‘earthbound’ and had found ways to help them move back into the light.

In developing my psychic skills in the 1990s, I learnt how to communicate with different types of non-human spiritual entities, including angelic and mythological beings. Around this time, I also learnt how to communicate with trees. They gave me a lot of information some of which, like the communication through their roots, science has now confirmed. It was during this period that I published several books, including The Healer Within and Working with Earth Energies.

In the late 1990s, I met up with another group founded by psychiatrist Dr Alan Sanderson, which was looking to help individuals who had anomalous psychic issues, considered to be caused by attached spirits. This led to a journey of exploration and discovery of seeking ways to help people deal with their inner world trauma. In the 1990s I had met and trained with Dr Roger Woolger in regression therapy, and it was through this method we explored the inner world of our clients, in an attempt to release spirit infiltrations. The Spirit Release Foundation ran for about ten years, running training courses and conferences exploring different elements of spirit attachment and spirit release. For various reasons the organisation could not continue and in 2011, I founded a new organisation the Spirit Release Forum, which I have continued to run to this day. The SRF continues to run training programmes in Spirit Release as well as providing a platform for those therapists who have trained in our techniques.

What different therapies do you offer and what benefits can a person expect from them?

As part of the journey of releasing attached or intrusive spirits, and through the exploration of the inner world using hypnotic trance states that induce an altered state of consciousness (SC) we have come to recognise a number of ontological elements that make up our inner world. These include several, perhaps many sub-personalities, an inner core Self, which we might equate with the soul and a transpersonal part anchored in the spiritual domain which for simplicity we call the Higher Self (HS). The subpersonalities, also called ego-states, or simply parts, often hold trauma, from childhood incidents.

These parts can also become the target of entities. The therapeutic journey entails helping the client to connect to their HS, which has a complete over-view of the psyche and can pin-point where issues lie. From that contact, the HS can direct attention to where the issues lie and what then needs to be done to resolve the problem. Some problems can be very complex involving many lifetimes and therefore the process can take time to clear. My role as a therapist is to facilitate this process, and all clients are approached from the same perspective.

What different courses do you offer?

I offer different courses that cover the range of my interests and expertise. Within the Spirit Release Forum, they are focused on teaching students the methodology for clear entities and restoring the system to equilibrium. The professional training programme involves a two-day Introductory Course, an eight-day Part 1 training and a further four-day Part 2 training. My personal training courses include a six-day Working with Earth Energies course, plus an Ancestral Healing workshop.

What is the Spirit Release Forum and what is your involvement in it?

The SRF is an organisation I established in 2011, to take forward the work of the original Spirit Release Foundation. The forum provides a platform for the training programmes and for therapists wishing to advertise their services. It includes numerous articles and information on spirit release, valuable for those who believe that some form of spirit intrusion is the cause of their suffering. In addition to my training programmes, I also take groups to places of spiritual significance. For example, I have a group going to Egypt in December, for a sixteen-day tour, where we will experience the energies of many different temple sites together with the significant alignment of the mid-winter solstice. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

As a successful author, what books have you written and why would you recommend them to our readers?

The books I have written cover the areas of my interest and expertise. They contain many exercises that people can use to help further their spiritual and psychic development. Behind them all is a theme of healing the wounded elements of our psyche. They include The Healer Within; Healing Your Ancestral Patterns; Developing Your Intuition and Psychic Powers; Working with Earth Energies and Illuminating the Shadow.
