You became an inaugural Certified Professional Organizer® in 2007, a rare accomplishment. How did achieving this certification influence your career and credibility in the professional organizing industry?
I became a certified professional organizer in 2002 which was the first year offered for this accomplishment. This certification set me apart from other organizers in the field and I was able to market myself as a more serious and credible professional organizer.
You emphasize the emotional and psychological aspects of clutter. What strategies do you use to help clients overcome the fear of letting go?
I deal with the emotional and psychological aspects of clutter with every client. By asking many questions to help the clients realize the art of letting go, the organization provides them with more space, time and money. Some strategies I use is to put items together so they can see that they have multiples of many of the same.
What type of services do you offer?
I offer all types of services; paper management with files and mail, time management skills and of course, the actual physical organizing of all the rooms and closets in a home.
As a Feng Shui consultant, how do you incorporate its principles into your organizing projects, and what impact does it have on your clients’ well-being?
The first order of Feng Shui is clearing the clutter in the space, so I incorporate these principles while working with clients. My clients feel less stressed and anxious as they work one on one with me. .Want vs, need is something we discuss in detail.
With over 19 years of running your business, what key lessons have you learned about balancing the roles of entrepreneur, wife, and mother?
As an entrepreneur, wife and mother I have learned to balance my time between all three. I taught my kids and husband to be very organized and independent and I stick to my business hours. so I can spend quality time with them. I am very fortunate to have a husband who manages my website which is key in marketing my company.
