How do aromatherapy lotions and essential oil bath salts contribute to the overall relaxation and well-being of individuals during a massage therapy session?
The bath salts are for use at home to pour into a bathtub. The Epsom salts withdraw the toxins out of the body through the pores while sitting in it. The Aromatherapy lotion is used during sessions to get immediate relief from what is bothering them. Each essential oil has different properties to help with specific needs and ailments and they can be blended to help with multiple issues as well. For example, Basil helps with skin issues such as eczema and acne, also helps with boosting immunity, reduces anxiety, and even helps with muscle spasms. Peppermint essential oil is great for respiratory issues, and better breathing and can also help with digestive issues such as IBS. Essential oils are great during a massage session as well as using them at home for remedies.
Can you explain the benefits and potential drawbacks of incorporating CBD-infused products into massage treatments, and how they affect the massage experience for clients?
CBD products are good for many things during a massage session. The products that are used during massage help with inflammation from injury or soreness, give a sense of calmness during and after the session and can reduce fatigue in muscles. Some of the drawbacks of using CBD, it could have an effect on dry mouth when using CBD oil for internal use, may interact negatively with medications the client may be taking, or even cause nausea. Depending on what is needed or wanted, reduced appetite is another side effect that may happen. I have CBD tinctures for internal use, but only use topical products and I have so far had positive results from clients. Some CBD products have certain levels of THC in them. These used topically won’t show during a drug test but may show if used internally, but depends on the amount of THC in them.
What factors should a massage therapist consider when selecting specific essential oils and aromatherapy lotions to enhance the therapeutic benefits of a massage session?
Massage therapists need to listen carefully to what the client may have issues with and what their goals are in selecting essential oils for the best treatment goals if the client isn’t sure what to use during their sessions. If client knows exactly what they want we just go for what they want. Many know the benefits of common essential oils such as Peppermint which helps with Respiratory issues, better breathing, and even helps boost energy levels. Lavender which calms the client for relaxation, is an anxiolytic and is also an inflammatory. Eucalyptus controls allergies, helps with joint pain and sore muscles, and alleviates headaches.
How do you ensure the safety and suitability of aromatherapy lotions and essential oil bath salts for individuals with various skin sensitivities or allergies in a spa or wellness setting?
I always ask if they would like aromatherapy added to their sessions. Some prefer not to due to allergies to specific scents but when they do, I ask if they have allergies to specific ones. If they don’t, I will go through and let them know which oil helps with specific issues they need help with. If the client is unsure of allergies or reactions to the oil they chose or I chose for their needs, I will mix a drop with a carrier oil and do a drop on a small spot like the back of the hand or forearm before they get on the table to see if there is an immediate reaction. So far no reactions using this method and everyone using aromatherapy loves it.
What role does the selection of specific essential oils and product combinations play in customizing massages for individual clients’ needs, whether it’s for relaxation, pain relief, or stress reduction?
As stated before, essential oils help with many ailments. Some help with the same issues such as Peppermint and Eucalyptus. Both help with respiratory problems for better breathing but the same two can expand helping in different ways. Peppermint helps give energy and awareness and Eucalyptus helps alleviate headaches and soothes sore muscles.
Can you share examples of successful case studies or client testimonials that highlight the positive outcomes and experiences of using aromatherapy lotions, essential oil bath salts, and CBD in your massage therapy practice?
Based on clients’ reactions, the specific essential oils have helped the clients with more than what was expected than just a regular session without the use of oils. Clients’ headaches usually subside quickly, the skin becomes healthier and more nourished. Using CBD has a more direct and immediate relief to the pain that the client is feeling. The inflammation is reduced as soon as applied and helps the client to move much better. By the end of the session, as they are getting off the table, they are pretty much pain-free but there is also more in the creams or lotions than CBD when used as a massage product. Bath salts are used at home so the toxins that caused the issues within their bodies are pulled out into the tub. Usually, it causes the water to change colors due to the Epsom salts as it has magnesium and the specific oil for their needs.
