Dabbling with the Divine - Cindy McKean

Dabbling with the Divine - Cindy McKean

Cindy McKean’s journey into astrology began when she was very young. The characters of the zodiac like lion (Leo), the bull (Taurus), and the centaur (Sagittarius) intrigued her as a child. Later, Linda Goodman’s “Sun Signs” book captured her attention at 18, setting her on a path of astrological exploration and serious study. Before the internet era, she meticulously crafted charts by hand, delving into the complexities of planetary positions with the aid of an ephemeris. During university, astrology became a significant part of her life, leading to encounters with enlightening teachers and experiences. Alongside astrology, Cindy has mastered the arts of Tarot and dowsing (radiesthesia), enriching her practice and providing deep insights to her clients. With over 24 years of professional experience in astrology and palmistry, and over 9 years in Tarot and dowsing, Cindy now offers her services full-time, owning and operating Kansas City Astrology & Tarot, LLC. Cindy also offers in-person readings in Chicago with her business, Auracles, LLC. MysticMag has the opportunity to chat with Cindy.

Cindy, what inspired you to develop your own code of ethics, and how does it set you apart from other readers in the field?

In astrology, as one progresses from a casual student to a serious practitioner, there is typically a certification process that includes a code of ethics. While this is beneficial for astrology, I found that it did not fully encompass the broader range of disciplines I offer. Drawing from my frequent consultations with psychics, I considered what clients truly desire. This led me to develop my own approach, which sets me apart in several ways. Firstly, my approach is comprehensive, covering various aspects beyond astrology. Additionally, I make a unique promise to my clients, which is not typical of other readers or psychics. This approach has served me well over the past nine years in business, and I have not deviated from it since.

How do you balance professionalism and sensitivity when delivering readings, especially when interpreting challenging or potentially distressing information?

In my opinion, being sensitive is a crucial part of professionalism, especially in the work I do. I’m very clear on my website that if clients aren’t prepared for the truth, they should consider other options. While some readers might offer more comforting predictions, I believe in delivering honest insights, even when they’re challenging, such as predicting the end of a relationship or job. I handle these delicate matters with compassion, helping clients prepare for any possible outcomes, which is often appreciated in the long run.

Could you share a specific example of how your multidisciplinary approach (Astrology, Tarot, Palmistry) has provided a more comprehensive and insightful reading for a client?

In my view, there’s no definitive answer in these readings. It’s akin to visiting a doctor for a cough. The doctor can hear the type of cough—whether dry or wet— and determine more by listening to your breathing with a stethoscope. They can then pinpoint the source, whether it’s in the bronchial tubes or the upper or lower lobes of the lungs. This initial assessment allows them to rule out certain possibilities. An X-ray provides more insight, while a mucous or sputum sample helps identify the issue further, leading to discussions about prognosis and remedies. Similarly, in astrology, tarot, and palmistry, each method contributes additional layers for insight. Like building a wall with bricks; astrology provides a broad overview, but tarot or palmistry fills in the details. For example, while palmistry isn’t typically predictive, it can indicate major life events, which, when corroborated with astrology and tarot, paints a much clearer picture.

Your extensive experience includes consultations for missing persons and murder cases. How do you approach such sensitive and complex situations, and what role does intuition play in these consultations?

Preparing for these cases involves a lot of meditation, grounding, and centering. It’s crucial because these situations are often challenging; when someone is missing and likely in a bad situation, it’s understandably emotionally tough for everyone. However, families in these situations are usually open to any information that might help. While it might seem like one of the toughest types of cases, in terms of dealing with the people involved, they’re already in a difficult situation, so there’s a sense of relief in providing any clue. Even if the outcome is grim and the missing person is found deceased, being there for the families in their grief is essential. After the case is resolved, my role ends, and any further follow-up is up to them. I try not to get involved in these cases too often because they are emotionally and energetically draining. My main specialty lies in helping people with their moves and travels from an astrological perspective. AstroMapping techniques such as AstroCartoGraphy and Compass Astrology, which map planetary lines around the globe according to the time and location of your birth, can show how different locations affect you energetically, regardless of cultural or climatic differences.

You’ve mentioned being involved with astrology for over 25 years, tarot for about half that time, and palmistry since childhood. How do these different timelines of experience contribute to the depth and accuracy of your readings?

Having time between different approaches helped me fully master each technique before integrating new layers. Starting with palmistry was like beginning in kindergarten before advancing to first grade, making the transition to astrology less intimidating. Learning about aspects like the girdle of Venus and the mound of Mars through palmistry introduced vocabulary and concepts that eased the study of astrology. Surprisingly, the tarot was the most challenging to master. However, integrating tarot into my practice has enriched and deepened my readings. It requires being attuned and aligned to receive messages clearly, similar to tuning into different radio frequencies. Using questions as tuning knobs and the cards as guides, tarot complements astrology, filling in gaps and enhancing the overall reading experience.
