For more than four decades, Dr. Cay Randall-May has seamlessly woven together the realms of science and intuition, offering groundbreaking insights into medical intuition, extended sensory perception, and the very fabric of consciousness itself. With a background in biological sciences and entomology, she has taught at esteemed institutions such as the University of California, Berkeley, and Arizona State University. As Vice-President of the National Organization for Medical Intuition and a certified medical intuitive by the American Board of Scientific Medical Intuition, Dr. Randall-May has played a pivotal role in legitimizing intuitive practices within healthcare and beyond. In this illuminating conversation with Mystic Mag, Dr. Randall-May shares her journey of integrating logic and intuition, her experiences with professional intuitive research, and her thoughts on the future of human consciousness. From working with the Edgar Cayce Association for Research and Enlightenment to serving as a spiritual minister and prayer chaplain, her work is a testament to the power of blending science, spirituality, and intuition to expand our perception of the universe.
Your background combines rigorous scientific research with intuitive consulting. How do you reconcile these two seemingly different worlds, and how can you, as an intuitive, reconcile with what you do on a scientific basis with metaphysics?
I am a scientist. My academic training is in biology and, of course, chemistry. I taught biology for many years at various universities. At the same time, I have been an intuitive all my life and have worked as an intuitive consultant for more than 40 years.
There is no conflict between science and intuition. Science is based on observation, measurement, repetition, and verification of what is observed. It does not matter whether something is observed using the traditional five senses or through extended senses such as clairvoyance, clairaudience, or remote viewing.
When conducting an intuitive consultation, I spend time before speaking with a client using my intuitive abilities to connect with them, scanning their energy field on a physical and energetic level. I then provide my impressions based on what I perceive.
Now, where science differs is in its methodology. For example, in biology, if I wanted to study a biological system, I would conduct tests on a large sample size—hundreds or even thousands of specimens—such as insects or vertebrates. I would repeat experiments over and over to ensure consistent results.
However, when I conduct an intuitive consultation, I am working with a single individual. If you call me, I don’t have multiple versions of you to compare—only the one person in front of me. In this way, intuitive consultation is similar to psychology or medical practice, where each case is unique. Because of this, consultations are not considered rigorous science in a traditional sense, as they cannot be tested in a laboratory. However, they still rely on scientific principles. What I observe intuitively, I compare to my knowledge of anatomy and other scientifically proven facts.
As for metaphysics and spirituality, I reconcile them with science because they address different aspects of understanding. I am an ordained minister, I work with prayer, and I am a deeply spiritual individual. At the same time, I am a scientist. This balance is possible because science and metaphysics/spirituality do not answer the same questions.
Science explains what happened—physically, when, and where—through measurable data. But it does not explain why something happened. That is where metaphysics and spirituality come in—they seek to answer the why.
The challenge arises, in my opinion, when scientists try to use science to explain metaphysical “whys,” or when spiritual individuals attempt to explain scientific processes. Both are stepping outside their realm of expertise.
Ultimately, there is no conflict between science and spirituality. They simply address different aspects of existence.
You specialize in Scientific and Technical Intuition. Can you share an example of how intuitive insights have contributed to a breakthrough in science or technology?
Absolutely. I suggest that individuals take a look at my book. I’m not sure if you’ve had the chance to read it, but Inner Visions of Matter and Subtle Energy explores our explanations of basic physics. Additionally, there is a paper that was published in 1999 in the Journal of Scientific Exploration, titled Analysis of Technically Inventive, Dreamlike Mental Imagery, authored by my primary colleague, Bruce Towe, Ph.D. and myself.
Something uncommon in most oils, such as a type of oil that allows electricity to flow through it—something uncommon in most other substances. To me, the most profound application of my work is in basic physics. Over the years, my role as a scientific and technical intuitive, which began in the latter part of the 1980s, has involved thousands of hours in a deep altered state, communicating with scientists. They would ask me questions, and I would respond by drawing pictures and providing insights.
One of the fundamental understandings that emerged from this work is that all matter fluctuates between being solid and pure undifferentiated energy—billions of times per second. This means that while we appear solid and separate, in our pure energy state, we are unified—there is no separation.
What is the significance of this? There are many implications, but one of the most important is consciousness. Of course, we have physical brains—I’m a biologist, so I acknowledge the physical structures of neurons, synapses, and everything that differentiates one brain from another. However, in the state where we exist as pure energy, our consciousness is interconnected.
Through training in meditation, deep relaxation, and other practices, a person can access this connection and bring it into the physical brain, allowing for more expansive and insightful thought processes. This suggests that human consciousness is independent of the physical brain. This is true not only for humans but for all living beings. Consciousness itself is shared, while the physical aspect remains individual. In essence, we are pure energetic beings having a physical experience through our bodies and minds.
Throughout my career, my scientific and technical work has encompassed many inventions, but I believe its most important contribution is illuminating the very nature of reality. As a physical scientist, measuring these concepts conventionally is challenging because they involve matter at a scale far smaller than what current scientific instruments can detect.
To illustrate this, all matter forms through what I call the “etheric interface.” It begins as tiny particles called gravitons. When gravitons remain separate, they permeate the entire universe as dark energy—something you may have heard of. When two gravitons combine, they form a photon of light. This aligns with the idea expressed in scripture: first, there was darkness and void, and then came the light. When three gravitons combine, they form an electron. If more gravitons cluster together, they create protons, mesons, and other subatomic particles.
From this perspective, every physical phenomenon is simply an exchange of quanta. Every atom holds its structure through positive and negative charge interactions facilitated by quantum exchanges. Every molecule, such as sodium chloride (table salt), exists due to this exchange. This principle governs all forms of matter and energy, explaining fundamental forces such as magnetism, gravity, and intermolecular interactions.
I have detailed these concepts in my book, Inner Visions of Matter and Subtle Energy, and I encourage you to stay tuned—over the next year, my primary colleague, Dr. Towe, and I will be publishing two or three more books. These will explore biomedical engineering and various physical phenomena, marking the culmination of decades of research and thousands of hours of deep intuitive exploration.
In addition to my work in scientific and technical intuition, a significant part of my focus is on Medical Intuition and general intuition, particularly in understanding the deeper connections between consciousness and the physical world.
What type of services do you offer?
If you visit my website, you’ll see that I offer general readings as well as medical intuitive readings. I also provide healings, but these follow specific principles. My approach to Medical Intuition aligns with the precepts established by an organization called NOMI—the National Organization of Medical Intuition. Over the past few years, I have worked with Wendie Colter and others to bring this organization into existence. I am currently the Vice President and one of its founding members.
Our goal at NOMI is to define Medical Intuition as the ability to perceive health-related information through clairvoyance, clairsentience, and other forms of extended sensory perception. For example, if you were to call me for a medical intuitive session, I would conduct a comprehensive scan of your body, examining it down to the molecular level. I would compare what I see with my knowledge of the body’s natural patterns and expected functions. Additionally, I would assess the energy body, which consists of the interpenetrating fields of Chi and Prana.
You’ve explored the human aura and its connection to health and consciousness. How do you interpret energy field imbalances, and what practical steps can people take to restore energetic harmony?
Let’s go back to the nature of matter. Remember, everything blinks in and out of existence billions of times per second. We perceive it with our limited senses based on where it spends most of its time. So, when I see Katarina, I’m seeing the average position of all her particles.
Beyond the physical body, there is a field where matter blinks in and out less frequently. This is known as the aura or the bioenergetic field. It interpenetrates the physical body and extends outward. In my readings, I use clairvoyance to observe both the physical body and the energy field. I examine every organ, checking for infections, parasites, or other imbalances. Additionally, I analyze the energy field, assessing the distribution of Chi, Qi, or Prana within the body’s meridians and beyond.
I look for areas where energy may be leaking, blocked, or unable to flow properly. Sometimes, intrusions occur in the form of thoughts, images, or memories that disrupt the natural energy flow. These disruptions can impact not only the body’s physical function but also genetic expression through epigenetics.
Epigenetics refers to the way past experiences—whether personal or ancestral—affect gene expression. For example, if your ancestors endured trauma during World War II, that suffering can carry through generations. Unless addressed through energy healing, spiritual work, or self-development, these inherited imbalances can persist. Removing trauma, fear, and emotional blockages can restore energetic balance and improve well-being.
I first began perceiving the aura in 1973 after a series of dreams that awakened my awareness. If you visit my website, you’ll find one of my paintings—a self-portrait I created in 1978. As an artist, I painted myself while looking in a mirror, capturing the lights and colors I see around the body.
In your studies of metaphysics and comparative scriptures, what have you discovered about the soul’s journey and the nature of consciousness beyond physical existence?
This understanding has nothing to do with intellectual study—it comes from my direct perception and knowing. The physical body is only temporary, but consciousness is eternal. After the physical body disintegrates, consciousness—which is constantly blinking in and out—becomes the more predominant aspect of the self.
This consciousness is not only connected to the individual projection of the soul but also to the root soul. We refer to this as the Akashic record. The soul then coalesces around its purpose for being here. Yes, we are here for a reason—it is not random or accidental.
Let me share an example of how this works for me. Some time ago, I was working with my physician and scientific team. The physician never attended the sessions in person but would provide me with a patient number. My task was to intuitively perceive what was happening with that patient. I was given no names or details, and no one in the room had any prior knowledge about the patient.
One day, I received a patient number and entered a deep altered state. Suddenly, I saw an incredibly brilliant light—brighter than the sun. I heard a voice saying, “She’s in remission. We’re preparing for a party. All is well.” That was the message I received and relayed.
The transcript of my session was sent to the physician. A day or two later, he responded, saying my reading must be incorrect because all of the patients he had sent me were in serious condition. However, a few days later, he called back and asked for the exact time of my session. When we checked, we realized that the patient had passed away just hours before I saw her in that burst of light. She had died of ovarian cancer, yet I was shown that she was “in remission” and that a celebration was being prepared for her.
Some skeptics claim that the light people report seeing at death—the so-called “tunnel of light”—is merely a result of hypoxia. But I saw it independently, with no prior knowledge of her passing. I am telling you from firsthand experience: I have seen the light, and I know that consciousness survives after death.
