Could you tell us more about the Usui Shiki Ryoho method of Reiki?
The Usui Shiki Ryoho Method of Reiki, or the Usui System of Natural Healing, is a self-healing and self-treatment holistic modality founded by Mikao Usui in Japan over 100 years ago. It addresses the person as a whole, benefiting them on physical, emotional, and spiritual levels, even addressing unidentified feelings or situations.
Without delving too deeply, the Usui Shiki Ryoho method is defined by Phyllis Lei Furumoto, a past lineage bearer, as having four specific “Aspects” corresponding with nine specific “Elements.” This unique combination forms a proven, profound journey of healing, growth, and deeper spirituality for those studying in the Usui Shiki Ryoho tradition. Any alteration to this century-old tradition is considered a distinct form of Reiki practice. The importance and deeper meaning of the aspects and elements gradually become understood through personal experience and self-practice of Reiki.
Can you share some specific ways in which Reiki has benefited you personally?
Certainly. Personally drawn to and attuned into the Usui Shiki Ryoho method, I value the transformative experience it offers. Reiki has significantly changed my life, fostering greater presence, intentionality, and the release of unhelpful thoughts. It has alleviated fears, anxiety, and improved my sleep. Moreover, Reiki heightened my intuition, aiding in navigating challenging situations and illnesses. Positive experiences manifested through my Reiki & Sound Healing business, volunteer work offering Reiki to cancer patients, and interactions with clients have affirmed the value of Reiki’s intention, positivity, and love.
Could you explain how Reiki and Sound Healing work together in your practice? What can clients expect from a session that combines these two modalities?
In my practice, Reiki is perfect in and of itself—gentle yet powerful, adaptable to any setting without requiring props. Sound healing, with its varied frequencies from different instruments, enhances the overall well-being of an individual. While both Reiki and sound healing stand on their own, combining them offers a lovely, holistic experience.
For example, a session may involve using a crystal pyramid for grounding purposes, calming the client’s energy and supporting the Reiki experience. In cases of physical pain like arthritis, tuning forks (e.g., 174hz or 528hz) or singing bowls resonating with arthritic pain may be applied. Each client’s unique experience is respected, ranging from the expression of various emotions to peaceful sleep.
Could you share a success story or a particularly impactful experience where a client benefited significantly from your healing sessions?
Certainly. I consider every client I’ve worked with to be a success story, with each step towards self-help, balance, and peace being beautiful and brave. One client, in particular, shared that Reiki saved their life. Initially fragile, they committed to and trusted the Reiki process, ultimately thriving and growing more confident, happier, and peaceful with each session.
It’s a testament to the individual’s openness to the universe and their own energy. Reiki becomes a gentle, yet effective, way to connect to one’s inner power, truly life-changing.
As you’re setting the intention to earn a master-level certification in Reiki, could you describe what this advanced level entails and how it will further enhance your abilities as a practitioner?
Earning a Master Level in the Usui Shiki Ryoho tradition is a complex and lengthy undertaking. A level 2 practitioner needs permission from their teacher/master to begin a two or more years apprenticeship. A master-in-training is required to study and learn the history of our specific lineage, new symbols, and their meanings. Active participation as an apprentice and monthly reiki circles, where practitioners share experiences and undergo more hands-on training, form part of this committed training process. This journey leads to becoming a teacher of Reiki and gaining the ability to initiate others as Reiki 1 & Reiki 2 practitioners.
Reiki elevates one’s vibration, resonating only with their highest good. I am grateful for learning Reiki and cherish the ability to offer this beautiful modality to others seeking the peace and balance they deserve.
