Can you share a few details about yourself and your professional journey?
Absolutely. I received my PhD in Clinical Psychology when I was 30 years of age. I had the love and the pleasure of practicing as a psychologist for many years, up until about 12 years ago. At that time, I had gone to an Energy Medicine retreat with Dietrich Klinghardt, MD, PhD, and I witnessed and experienced things that blew my mind and changed the way I understood the world. My head, my heart, and my soul all cracked open in this new type of way and I fell madly in love with Energy healing and Energy Medicine. Not only did I witness incredibly transformative healings, I, too, experienced an incredibly transformative, life-changing healing. I knew that I had to learn the mechanisms behind how Energy healing works. I started to learn and study quantum physics, and just really engrossed myself into the field of Energy Medicine, and have continued doing so for 12 + years. It’s been such a joyful journey to have discovered what now feels like a beautiful lotus flower.
Way back, I had felt deeply connected to the field of psychology, and I absolutely loved practicing and reading the latest journals, but — as time passed – and, as I grew and evolved, I lost that same connection that I had once felt. I was no longer interested in the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual) which was as if “the Bible” of Diagnoses, had the patient met a certain number of criteria. This “Bible” taught us how to categorize and label the people with whom we were working.
I truly loved everything I had learned (I love learning!) but, I was no longer connecting to “this is how I can help somebody the most”; it didn’t feel that way to me. Of course, there is much more to working with someone other than their diagnoses, and, of course, I understand this, but I was most interested in understanding what was at the root. Unfortunately, my training up until that point, had not included this.
So, I lost a feeling of connection overtime because of this missing human piece. There was no great way to get to all of the roots with just “talk therapy” and, as time passed, I became even more curious. I became less and less interested in “diagnosing.” In fact, I had a hard time saying “patient” because isn’t everyone a “soul” and doesn’t the word “patient” imply that that person is sick? And just by saying the word “patient” there is an energy exchange from “doctor” to “patient” that says “YOU are sick!” Not everyone who needs help is necessarily “sick.” Energetically this just didn’t feel right to me.
So, I began to practice in a way that aligned with my soul. I trained extensively with various extraordinarily gifted healers from all over the world and felt more “at home” internally and professionally that I had in ages. I studied anything and everything that I possibly could while simultaneously developing and creating my own ‘The Segal System of Energy Healing.’ To date, I continue to learn, study, and further develop my system. In fact, I have just completed a two-year Eden Energy Medicine training program which was absolutely phenomenal. It’s been a really exciting part of my journey and I’m so grateful to have the knowledge I have learned from Donna’s work. She and her husband David are true gifts to our planet.
Continuing on my journey, I recently went to the 25th anniversary ACEP conference, which is the Association for Comprehensive Energy Psychology (ACEP) conference in Baltimore.
Many of the greats in Energy Medicine were there from David Feinstein, PhD, to James Oschman, PhD, to Peta Stapleton, PhD, and many more thought leaders. It was such an exciting experience and the cutting-edge research was so compelling. And what was equally as exciting for me was I had an awakening of sorts — my perception had now shifted, yet again, and I felt at ”‘at homeness” that I had not felt for years before amongst other PhD’s in Clinical Psychology. These folks were also looking for “the root cause.” In fact, I can hardly recall hearing the presenters speak about Diagnoses.
These incredible thought leaders have been paving the way – bless their souls — – advancing the field of Energy Psychology – making sense of what had not made sense. The science and the research are there and this excites my soul knowing that more and more practitioners are and will be practicing in this way. Energy Medicine (EM) is an extraordinary “remedy,” a game changer, and is thought to be “the medicine of the future.”
EM exponentially impacts and decreases one’s treatment time. Talking is great, but sometimes there is a time to talk, and others there is a time to tap (!), or to whatever, to lighten the load and change, shift, and strengthen the energy field, or strengthen the energy field, or strengthen the auras, etc.
So, all of this is to say that my journey has come full circle, I left the most recent ACEP conference, feeling like I’m ready to reactivate my license. I am hoping to help bridge the gap between psychologists and Energy Medicine Practitioners and to help bring more psychologists and therapists into the field. The more practitioners incorporating EM into their work, the more people we can help and much faster. We really need this in our world – now more than ever.
What are five Element Affirmations?
With my “Five Element Affirmations Technique,” I will test to see what the individual most needs to support and help rebalance their system.
For example, when balanced, the Wood element carries the energy of motivation, willpower, good planning, good decision making, and clear judgment. Strongly rooted. We infuse kindness and forgiveness towards both self and others.
When Fire is balanced it carries the energy of lightness, joy, love for self and others, belief in others, adventurous, and being true to themselves. We infuse the energy of taking care of oneself with love while inviting and breathing love into oneself.
When Earth is balanced it has the ability to nourish oneself without worry trusting that the earth can hold them. Keeping balance with the self is key. We infuse the energy of balance and compassion for self.
When Metal is balanced it carries the energy of structure, organization, faith, and the ability to let go. We infuse the energy of releasing and letting go.
When Water is balanced it is gentle, independent, introspective, creative, flowing. We infuse the energy of courageousness and safety to move or “flow” towards others.
“Borrowing” the properties from whichever element is testing, we will infuse those qualities of that particular element into the field of person. It always amazes me how simple, yet accurate and powerfully effective this technique is.
What other techniques do you use in your energy healing?
I have a very wonderfully expansive toolbox. Through my extensive training, studying, and creating my system over the last 12 years, I have a wonderfully powerful “arsenal” of tools. I utilize and love: “The Adrenal Pump” with or without “Self-Loving Tune-up Infusions” that I created, as well as “Thank you, Body” which is a meditative script that I designed to help integrate the Mind-Body-Spirit so that we can come into a greater resonance with loving and appreciating the body in which we live, EFT’s (Emotional Freedom Techniques) which has extensive research showing decrease in anxiety, depression, cortisol, inflammation, and PTSD. I love and incorporate Donna Eden’s work when and as I can. One of my early on tools I had learned is The Sweep – created by Amy B Scher, which I love.
I use “I Am Here, You Are There Connection” and “The Reconnection Access Point” which are techniques I created to reconnect with Source energy when we feel disconnected and so many more techniques to help us connect within and clear blocked energy. I created and use many more techniques but as you can imagine it is hard to name them all! My tool box continues to grow as does my own system of Energy Healing. My course that is launching in the Fall of 2023 “How to Live a Self-Loving Lifestyle” has a plethora of techniques (some named above, some not) that I use and love.
How do you measure success, and can you share some success stories?
I measure success by how well that person is doing, and how much better they are, from the time we started to the time they finish. I measure success based on how balanced they are overall. That’s the goal – we want balance – mentally, physically, and spiritually.
Some success stories – I get rather excited when the bloodwork changes after the work we do in our sessions. Of course, not everyone is measuring or necessarily looking at their blood work but when it happens, it is always exciting! I would say most of the time, most people end, feeling lighter, brighter, and more hopeful. And that to me is success. We’ve done something to realign, rebalance their energy system. I’m infusing everything I’ve ever learned together into my sessions. It can feel like a symphony at work – divinely orchestrated.
What can people expect from your workshops?
I would say people can expect a sense of community, a sense of connection, and a sense of leaving more balanced and more peaceful than when they started. They will often feel a Mind, Body, and Spirit reset leaving them feeling inspired and more connected to themselves, others, and to what they most want.
Is there anything else about your work that you’d like to share with our readers?
As I mentioned earlier, I have an online course that I am really excited about launching in the fall. It’s called “How to Live a Self-Loving Lifestyle,” and it really takes the person on a journey into really loving themselves.
In the course we will be using various EM techniques, journaling, meditation, a workbook, and much more. It’s fun, it’s playful, it’s serious — it’s all of it; it’s everything all in one. I am also very excited to share that I am launching a podcast called “Soul Strolls” so I would love to invite folks over to join my mailing list at www.AngelaSegalPhD.com so that you can take a listen. Overall, I would also like people to know that there’s always a way to heal, no matter what. There’s always something that can be done.
There’s always something we can do to empower ourselves, and I think it’s our responsibility to do that, to raise the bar about ourselves and do it on a regular basis so we can really live up to our potential and really maximize why we are here in the first place. You’re not alone; no one is ever alone. And we all get scared, and we all feel sad sometimes, and, in this way, we all are the same. We’re all the same. That’s what I believe. I think we’re all the same in our inside, and how it gets.
