Can you tell us more about your journey into Reiki and how it has impacted both you and your family, especially in terms of holistic healing?
In 2013, my world was turned upside down when I lost my little brother to suicide at the young age of 21. It really shook things up as we were very close. I remember receiving a simple card from someone that said, “This will either destroy you or it won’t.” At that time, my second child was only 4 weeks old, so I knew that allowing it to destroy me wasn’t an option. That led me down a path of exploring what more could be done for mental health.
Additionally, my husband has a genetic disease that affects his muscles, so physical health has always been a priority for us. After my brother’s passing, I began having digestive issues and kidney problems. My health issues along with my husband’s health led us to search for more ways to improve our physical well-being. This journey into mental health and physical health intersected in 2018 when I began taking workshops and delving into self-development. It was during this time that I discovered Reiki. I became fully certified and felt compelled to share this tool with others, showcasing its benefits not only for mental well-being but also for physical health. My physical health has greatly improved, and my husband’s body is responding positively. Over the years reiki has helped me tremendously in seeing patterns between our emotions and physical well-being. For me personally I had to understand what the emotional causes were that was negatively affecting my body which than aligned to which chakra(s) needed balancing. From there my body could start to heal.
I believe in integrating various tools to aid in the healing process of the mind, body, and soul. What started as a personal journey to help my family soon evolved into a desire to assist others in their healing as well.
In 2020, when the world shut down due to the pandemic, I saw it as an opportunity to take a leap of faith. I felt there was more I could do, more I could share. So, I left behind the business I knew and embarked on a new venture aimed at helping people feel more connected to their authentic selves. This meant providing tools and guidance on what authenticity looks and feels like. Reiki was the perfect platform for this life changing journey.
How has your background in business influenced or intersected with your practice and understanding of Reiki?
I’ve experienced the whole gamut, you know. I have an undergraduate business degree, and an MBA degree, and have engaged in various ventures. I believe these experiences have prepared me well because my background has always been strategic, in addition to being a great listener. I’ve often found myself in roles where I bring different elements together, and it feels like a natural progression for me in this field.
Right from the start, I’ve recognized that there are numerous great tools available, and my inclination has always been towards collaboration. Collaboration has consistently been the word that resonates with me. This mindset has helped me establish a network of like-minded individuals, ranging from professionals in nutrition and herbalism to psychic mediums and therapists.
When clients seek my assistance, I aim to offer them more than just my services. I want to provide them with additional resources to support their journey. It’s about empowering them. Drawing from my business background, I understand the importance of making connections and bridging gaps. I want everyone to leave with a sense of abundance and hope, knowing that there are plenty of resources available to them. We all have the ability within us to heal.
What type of services do you offer?
I practice Usui Reiki, and that’s the main service I offer. I offer distant and in person reiki sessions. Each client’s experience is unique as I see clients of all ages. When they come in, I have them fill out an intake form to understand their intent for the session. If it’s their first time, I want to know what questions they have right from the start. So, we take a little time at the beginning to address any concerns and/or questions because the more comfortable they feel, the more relaxed they’ll be.
I always offer options—whether they prefer a quiet session, want to enter a meditative state, or even fall asleep during the session. Alternatively, they may prefer to talk as I go over each of the chakras, discussing their meanings and representations in their life. I enjoy educating clients about the chakras and the roles they play within us. Sometimes clients just want to share and release residual energy. In those moments, I consider it a privilege to stand beside them and hold that space.
When people ask, “What does holding space look like?” for me, it’s about creating an environment where someone feels completely at ease and safe, allowing themselves to experience emotions that might not feel so great. It’s about allowing them to delve deep within and sit with whatever they’re feeling—whether it’s fear, hurt, or shame. By holding that space, I enable them to explore those emotions fully. Once we feel we can start to heal.
In essence, I aim to create an environment where clients can reconnect, recharge, and rebalance. While there may be elements of life coaching involved, the focus remains on Reiki. However, sometimes it evolves into something more profound—providing clients with an opportunity to feel heard or seen for the first time. It’s all about tailoring the experience to meet the client’s needs and desires at that specific moment.
What specific techniques or approaches do you incorporate into your Reiki practice to address physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of healing?
First, I need to make sure that I am showing up for the client in the right mindset that allows for me to be an effective conduit. Therefore, I too must practice self-care, for example, meditation. I also acknowledge that the energy flowing through me onto the client is divine and so this keeps my ego out of the experience. I begin everything by setting the ambiance of the room. So, there are crystals, oils, and soothing sounds. I aim to support the chakras right from the start. As soon as they walk in, I want them to feel their body relax. I always come back to the concept of empowerment. I want people to leave feeling empowered—knowing what they can do when they’re at home and begin to feel anxiety creeping in or notice certain things happening that need to be addressed. When our chakras are out of alignment, we experience emotional cues and if those cues go unnoticed or undealt with then we experience physical injuries and/or illnesses. Therefore, I want clients to be highly attuned to their emotions.
I place a significant emphasis on the emotional aspect of things, explaining where emotions manifest in the body and what may happen if they go unaddressed. I strive to provide them with valuable information in a simple format so they can easily incorporate it into their daily lives. For instance, when we talk about grounding down, we discuss practical methods like cleaning the house after a hectic day, which helps many people feel safe, secure, and stable.
I always make it clear to them that Reiki is a spiritual tool—it helps us connect with our authentic selves at a soul level. We are all energetic beings divinely created. The more we connect with who we are at a soul level, the stronger that bond becomes. We discuss how to engage with our authentic self, especially during challenging times when our lives feel overwhelming.
When clients leave, I often ask if they’re okay with me sending them additional information. I provide them with easy-to-understand visuals about each chakra and the ones we focused on during the session. I remind them that life is a continuous journey, and we must constantly rebalance ourselves along the way. Despite my title as a Reiki Master, I’m not immune to life’s challenges. I remind clients that it’s healthy to face obstacles and that we can navigate through them together.
My approach has always been to collaborate with others and provide resources beyond just the Reiki session. I want clients to feel supported and equipped to maintain their well-being beyond our time together. By understanding the root chakra, for example, they can weather life’s curveballs without being knocked off balance. If they need additional support along the way, Reiki is always available to assist them.
How do you integrate Reiki principles and teachings into your daily life outside of formal sessions, especially as a mother of three?
I have three children, ranging from 7th grade down to 1st grade. So, we keep things simple, especially when it comes to understanding emotions. As a mom, I believe that teaching my kids healthy ways to self-soothe, including Reiki, is crucial. If I can provide them with different tools they can use and allow them to acknowledge and express their emotions, I’ve fulfilled the majority of my role as a mother.
I often find parallels between parenting and Reiki sessions. Just as I guide clients to trace back the origins of their emotions during sessions, I encourage my children to reflect on the source of their feelings. It’s about fostering open communication and honesty. I’m transparent with my kids, admitting that I’m still growing and learning myself. This humility helps keep our egos in check and fosters an environment of grace and understanding.
I also utilize Reiki techniques with my children. For example, my middle son gets anxious in crowded places, so we prepare by engaging in calming activities or even a Reiki session before such events. We incorporate various elements such as music, scents, and even nutrition, aligning them consciously with the corresponding chakras. While my children may not fully grasp these concepts yet, I believe in planting seeds of awareness that will grow over time.
In my marriage, I emphasize the importance of honest communication, particularly in vocalizing our wants and needs. My husband comes routinely for reiki sessions, and this allows me to support him and deepens our bond. His journey to heal his body has taught us patience but also how important self-love really is. To hold hate in our bodies towards a disease/illness or injury hinders our natural ability to heal. Those low vibration emotions distract us from opportunities to better ourselves with sayings like, “what’s the point, probably won’t help anyways,” for example. The leap from despair to ultimate bliss is too great so we need to work our way up to those higher vibrations that positively impact our physical well-being. Reiki is a great tool to assist. Watching my family grow and evolve has been a tremendous blessing. It’s not always perfect, but we’re continually leveling up, expanding our perspectives, and deepening our spiritual understanding.
I involve my children in my Reiki practice, explaining its significance and how it aligns with our beliefs. Each of my children enjoy receiving a reiki session. It’s our chance to have meaningful conversations and I feel it deepens our bond as well. My oldest child is in middle school, so I prioritize checking in with him and creating a safe space for him to express himself. This age group is full of life lessons so finding ways to navigate is where I incorporate reiki.
Encouraging my children to sit with and be present with their emotions is essential, especially considering the mental health aspect. By teaching them how to navigate their emotions, I equip them with tools for resilience. Even taking a moment to sit in the grass as a grounding down activity, I strive to demonstrate practical ways to incorporate supporting our chakras into our daily lives.
Ultimately, my goal is to instill in my children the ability to soothe themselves in a healthy manner when life gets tough. By continuously introducing new practices and demonstrating their effectiveness in real-life situations, I hope to empower them to navigate life’s challenges with confidence and resilience.
