In the latest edition of MysticMag interviews, we dive into the world of Feng Shui and astrology with Alan Stirling. Alan shares how a chance encounter with the concept in a novel ignited a passion that led him to become a leading practitioner, offering unique services that blend traditional wisdom with modern applications to create balanced and harmonious environments while also exploring the profound insights of Chinese astrology.
What did your professional beginnings look like and how did you get into the field of Feng Shui?
I first came across the words “Feng Shui” in a novel by James Clavell called Noble House. I was intrigued, having never heard of it before. Seeing those two words together sparked something in me. At the time, I was in the Middle East, but when I returned to the UK in the mid-80s, I went to the library to learn more. There was only one book available, and it was about burial practices, which are completely different from what we do in the West. In the East, they practice Yin Feng Shui, which is related to choosing the right grave or tomb for emperors and their dynasties, ensuring their longevity and legacy. This sparked my journey into Feng Shui, and here I am today, following that initial spark of curiosity. I would say that it was my destiny.
What different Feng Shui services do you offer?
I offer a wide range of Feng Shui services tailored to meet the unique needs of each client. Everything I do revolves around understanding and balancing energy to create a nurturing environment in homes or offices. For instance, I use the Bagua, which divides space into eight trigrams representing different life areas like wealth, health, and relationships.
I create energy profiles for my clients from Chinese astrology charts as electromagnetic profiles. This helps determine what each person needs to achieve fulfillment and satisfaction in life. By integrating the five elements, I can tailor the environment to support their specific needs. I also analyse the energy of houses, looking at factors like when the house was built and which direction it faces, using tools such as Flying Star Feng Shui to understand its energy dynamics.
Since energy changes yearly, I offer annual consultations to help clients adjust their spaces according to the current year’s energy needs. I also use and teach various Feng Shui techniques such as I Ching, an ancient Chinese divination method; Qi Men Dun Jia, a form of Chinese metaphysics used for strategic decision-making; and Zi Wei Dou Shu, a form of Chinese astrology that uses the positions of stars to interpret a person’s destiny.
All these services are designed to integrate time, space, and personal energy, ensuring a harmonious and fulfilling living or working environment.
Can you tell me a bit more about the astrology services that you offer?
As I mentioned, I offer a variety of astrology services, but I’m most well-known for Ba-Zi, also known as the Four Pillars of Destiny. Ba-Zi is an ancient Chinese method of fortune-telling based on a person’s birth date and time, which helps uncover aspects of their personality, destiny, and life path. I am also proficient in various systems like Qi Men Dun Jia and Zi Wei Dou Shu.
You also teach Feng Shui to others through the International Feng Shui School of Excellence. What are the courses like and can anyone learn Feng Shui?
I never set out to be a teacher. However, my clients were amazed at the results they were getting with traditional Chinese Feng Shui, which uses time and space Feng Shui. They wanted to learn it for themselves, as they had never seen such effective results before. They were inspired and kept urging me to start a school to teach them. It took me a while, but I eventually did it, and that was over 25 years ago. Now, the school has students in at least 90 different countries around the world.
Our courses are probably the most comprehensive you’ll find. They start with a distance learning course called the Key Concepts Course, which serves as the basic module. This course likely contains more content than what most other schools consider as an entire course. It covers how to use Feng Shui inside the home, and we usually find that students achieve amazing results and are eager to continue with the other distance learning courses.
There are seven steps in our distance learning program. For example, we teach I Ching, which looks at divination through hexagrams and trigrams. We also cover Nine Star Ki, a form of astrology that focuses on family dynamics. This helps analyze the energies of individuals in an office or company, identifying team strengths and potential disruptions, and determining how to balance them by adjusting the environment. Energy in our environment has a direct effect on us and how we feel, and this is what we analyse and teach in our courses.
I also personally teach a two-year course that runs every month and consists of 24 different modules. This program is very thorough and ensures that students get a comprehensive education in traditional Chinese Feng Shui.
Lastly, to answer your question, yes, anybody can learn Feng Shui and I encourage anyone interested to try it.
Can you walk me through one of your typical or most common consultations?
I work with both business and individual clients, covering spaces from apartments and homes to stately homes, shopping centres, and even entire cities. For instance, I’m currently involved in a city project in Asia using Feng Shui principles. The methodology is scalable, so it applies equally to a small one-bedroom apartment or a city with 100,000 occupants.
Let’s use a one-bedroom apartment as an example to present a typical session. The process starts with understanding the client’s personal energy, where are they in the current time in their energy field, what is the energy of their home, and how to put the two together using five elements. This relates to the magnetism of the Earth and the electromagnetic field affected by them.
For a full analysis, I need the birth date of the person, when the apartment was built, and the direction it faces. The apartment-related information can be gathered through a personal visit or online, relying on the client’s input. If I have the address, I can also use mapping tools to verify details accurately. This allows me to provide consultations all over the world either online or in person.
The core of the consultation is integrating the client’s energy with the home’s energy using the five elements. This involves balancing these energies to enhance the client’s well-being and help them excel in their personal or professional life. The ultimate goal is to create a harmonious environment where the client feels good and enjoys life. This is my approach and the approach I teach to my students.
Can you share a memorable success story?
One memorable success story involves a student whose father won the lottery twice in three months. It all started when her father, who was an innkeeper in a pub she Feng Shuied, was part of a lottery syndicate with about 12 people. They won the lottery, and the father used the winnings to buy a larger house which she Feng Shuied, too. Remarkably, just three months later, he won the lottery again. Winning the lottery twice in such a short span is incredibly rare, and it highlights the impact of Feng Shui in aligning and balancing energies to open up opportunities.
Another interesting one involves a client who had their land confiscated by the government. After making changes based on Feng Shui advice, the client received a call from the president later that day, who returned the land to them. While I can’t provide specific details due to confidentiality, these stories illustrate how Feng Shui can significantly influence and improve situations by balancing energies and creating positive changes.
Is there anything else about your work that you’d like to share that we haven’t covered?
One exciting aspect of my work is the Infinity Plus water feature, which involves the use of flow forms, and is the world’s first “Infinity Plus Feng Shui Flow Form water feature.” This innovative design is based on the differences between anti-clockwise and clockwise flows, reflecting natural principles. In agriculture, if we use the anti-clockwise flow when plowing, all the goodness including worms remains inside the soil. However, if we do it in a clockwise flow, they get distributed around and the birds love it. This is essential when it comes to crop growth.
Another way to illustrate this idea is through a simple experiment: when making tea, if you stir anti-clockwise, the tea bag will move towards the spoon. If you stir clockwise, it will move away from it. This principle also applies to cooking sauces—stirring clockwise or anti-clockwise affects how ingredients blend, if they will move towards or away from the centre. Another example is the fact that a mole inside the earth swims anticlockwise. This movement aligns with the most refined light, leading to positive outcomes. In summary, good things happen when we do them anti-clockwise.
In the context of flying star Feng Shui, there are interactions between different elements. We are now in what’s called “period 9” so in the next 40 years, every house built will have a contradiction between health, which wants to be anti-clockwise, and wealth, which we want to distribute and receive, meaning it should be in the clockwise flow.
Infinity Plus incorporates both of these principles, leading to remarkable success. Since its launch on February 4th, when period 9 started, clients have reported significant improvements. One client, in particular, experienced substantial financial gains after placing this feature in the right place. You, obviously have to find the right place, and a feng shui consultation will provide this information, as well as so much more, and when you do, the results are fascinating. This feature demonstrates how understanding and harnessing these natural dynamics can lead to phenomenal results, aligning health and wealth effectively.
