Feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or simply out of sorts? You’re not alone. But what if there was a natural way to address these emotions?
In this post, Mystic Mag introduces you to Bach Flowers, a gentle and effective approach to emotional well-being practiced by Gurudham Kaur, PhD, BFRP, BFRAP.
When did you first know that being a Bach Flowers Practitioner was your calling and how did it come about?
My first experience with Bach Flowers goes right back to 2010 when Patrick, my lovely ginger cat got a cold. Patrick’s vet was on annual leave and the substitute vet prescribed him a 7 day course of antibiotics. It looked too much to me. I browsed the internet for a natural, pet-safe solution before starting with the antibiotic course. Now 14 years ago, there was not much information online so I ended up trying Bach Flowers remedies. They worked very well and the day after, Patrick was fine!
As a scientist, my desire to know more evolved as I thought I needed to know more.
However at that time, I was busy with my PhD in Earth Science and Yoga teaching and a few years passed before I graduated with a Level 3 qualification as a Bach Flowers Registered Practitioner (BFRP) with the Bach Centre in Oxfordshire and Bach Flowers Registered Practitioner for Animal (BFRAP) with the Natural Animal Centre becoming a specialist counselor to work with animals. I am now in the position of becoming a Bach Flowers registered teacher!
What services do you offer?
When people come to me for a personalized program or course, I focus immediately on their current emotional state (One- to-ones, Small Groups, Pets and Owners). Generally, people with emotional challenges need a safe space to be heard and to start their self-discovery journey. I listen and identify the flowers that can help in their specific situation and I explain the qualities of the selected flowers along with the reasons for the selection and prepare a personalized mix bottle. When we are experiencing troubled emotions, it is not always easy to recognize them. Starting with a consultation program, this provides a safe framework to learn the remedies, so that you will be able to help yourself and your family going forward.
Working with animals is not just about them. Pets experience emotions, but they are also sensitive to human emotions. For example, when humans are stressed by work and family or worried for their pets, this affects their pets also. I found that helping both owner and pet with the remedies can improve their emotional wellness wonderfully and bring harmony to the home.
I am passionate about sharing my knowledge of these remedies and have designed thematic workshops to help people to select the correct flowers.
For example, almost anyone in the UK uses the crisis formula (known as rescue remedy) but ignores the other 38 remedies. The beauty of the remedies is that they are very simple to use and, if the wrong one is selected, it doesn’t have any effect. Knowing them will equip you with the skills to not only select them appropriately, but to embark on your inner transformational journey.
How exactly does your Bach Flowers approach help people and animals?
Bach Flowers were discovered by Dr. Edward Bach in 1930. He believed negative emotional states can influence our physical health. It was a big breakthrough at this time, whereas now it is a very well-established science. Exciting new studies reveal that emotions are felt by cats, dogs and other animals such as separation anxiety.
Working with a program allows to gently clear the emotions layered along human life experiences in a process termed by Dr. Bach as “pealing the onion” This approach is also applied to animals. However, Bach Flowers therapists can assist the animal in terms of some of emotional distress but the root of the behavior needs also to be addressed.
In what way can Bach remedies affect a person? Can they be used to treat Anxiety and Depression?
People who have used Bach Flowers are often surprised to see how their negative emotions just disappear! In challenging situations, for example, before an exam, users of these remedies feel more in control.
Bach Flowers don’t treat physical issues, for which medical advice is essential, but they can support the whole spectrum of emotions that the issue triggers.
Anxiety, defined as an anticipation of future danger without a reason, can be relieved by specific flowers, such as Aspen, while there are flowers that can help to enhance motivation and purpose in life.
What do you love most about your profession?
