Interview with a psychic reader – David Zarza

Interview with a psychic reader – David Zarza

MysticMag’s Marko Velimirovic had the opportunity to talk to David Zarza, a psychic medium and intuitive life coach from Seattle. We talked about his beginnings, the usual expectations from his clients, as well as the influence that the Covid-19 pandemic has on his work.

What inspired you to start your psychic reading business?

David Zarza: So, that’s kind of a long story, but I’ll shorten it. When I was 16 years old, I saw this woman on television, “The Montel Williams Show”, her name is Sylvia Brown, and I saw what she was doing, how she was interacting with audience members, giving them answers, entertaining all their questions, and everything from health, relationship issues, dead loved ones, things like that. I was watching this, and realized I would love to do what she does! At that point, I wasn’t really a psychic, I was just a good guesser, or so I thought, I was just a good guesser, and it wasn’t until I was in my thirties that I said: “you know what, I’m definitely going to be a psychic”. At that time I was a therapist after working a number of different jobs in different fields, it wasn’t until 2006 that I actually said, its time to become a psychic. And it was just because, during my experience as a therapist I kept having moments where I knew things about the person that was in front of me, that there was no possible way I could know about them through other means. For instance, the layout of the person’s house, or memories about the loved one that they hold very dear or names of people that they were thinking of at the moment, just curious occurrences like that kept happening.

I should also mention that I actually come from a stringent scientific background, I used to do psychological research at UCLA, it’s this university on the west coast, so when the universe started showing me these weird bits of information about people, I told it. I told the universe: “If you want me to do this work, as a psychic, then I want you to keep showing up and surprising me with information enough that there’s no way I could possibly know otherwise.”  Keep proving it to me, is essentially what I was telling the Universe.

What is the most popular type of reading that customers are looking for? What are the most common concerns that interest them?

DZ: The most popular sessions right now are two specific ones. The first one is, of course, spirit communication, also known as mediumship. The second most popular is a psychic reading, which is basically looking in on a person and the people currently in their life. But the most popular one has to be, still, spirit communication, its people wanting to have those conversations with their departed loved ones they never thought they would have again. And in those sessions their number one concerns usually are: how is my loved one doing right now, their spirit, where are they, what are they doing every day. The second most popular concern usually is: why can’t I feel them around me or how can I feel them more around me. Those I would say are the top two concerns.

Are some types of psychic readings more demanding or difficult than others?

DZ: Absolutely, oh my goodness! Just this week, I had a session with these three women, I’m going to call them sisters, because of the depth of their relationship. I always meditate before every session, especially if it’s a spirit communication session. Now, during that meditation, it is very common for a spirit to show up, a spirit, or more than one spirit. And usually, the spirit who shows up is the spirit for the people that I’m about to connect to next, my next session. That’s exactly what happened this time. So to the session that spirit showed up eagerly, excitedly, but also usually emotionally, those are usually the most demanding, because I’m actually a very emotional person, even though I try to contain my emotions most of the time pretty well. But when a spirit is coming through with a lot of sadness or a lot of love, sometimes even with a lot of anger, those intense emotions from that spirit can be very overwhelming.

Some of the psychic sessions are still performed in person. What about you? How has your work been affected by the pandemic?

DZ: I have only had in-person sessions during this pandemic with clients who I have seen before already. So with those clients I feel more comfortable. They know what I’m like, they know that I’m a germaphobe and they take really good precautions in keeping themselves, and also me, safe. But if it’s somebody I haven’t met before, I would prefer not to meet in person right now. And surprisingly a lot of clients are actually ok with that, especially when they find out how I work; that I don’t have to be within the same space as a client for me to do my work.  I don’t even have to see the person to be able to connect with them psychically – all I need is the person’s voice. Overall, I can conclude that the pandemic did not affect my work too much. For instance, September this year was actually much busier than it was last year.

In this field, it is often thought that word-of-mouth and personal recommendations are the most important when picking a psychic reader – is this true?

DZ: To be honest, yes. However, word of mouth recommendations are starting to be beaten out by online reviews and testimonials. Websites like Yelp or Google where people can review you are becoming more popular and are better through word of mouth and referral, because they can reach more people and they exist for a very long time online.

What is the most important detail in maintaining a relationship of mutual trust with customers?

DZ: Trust is vitally important considering the work I do as a psychic and establishing it early on helps facilitate my connection with the Universe for my clients.  The way I go about setting down a strong foundation of trust is to be real from the beginning, to have and demonstrate integrity from the first time we connect!

If we’ve had a long standing relationship then my clients have likely seen that I show up with enthusiasm and honesty every time we connect.  That I don’t put on airs or shows of any kind, and that I’m up front with my insights and I deliver them with tact and love!

They also get to see that I’m available when they need me and we often develop an awesome friendship all while I’m providing this unique service.
