David Pond has spent decades helping people navigate life’s challenges and opportunities through astrology, with over 25,000 consultations to his name. His approach blends astrology with psychology, metaphysics, and spiritual wisdom, offering a deeper understanding of how cosmic influences shape our lives.
In this interview for Mystic Mag, David shares insights on using astrology for self-acceptance, navigating major life transitions, and integrating chakras into personal growth. He also discusses how astrology, beyond just prediction, serves as a powerful tool for creating a more meaningful and fulfilling life.
How do you see astrology as a tool for aligning with the universe’s guidance for our ultimate well-being?
Astrology is most beneficial in helping individuals identify and accept who they most naturally are and then to help strategize a lifestyle that is suited to their natural tendencies. Many people put too much effort into hammering themselves into what their culture tells them they should be. Astrology starts with accepting who you most naturally are, allowing a person to be more at ease.
Astrology can also help a person identify skills and talents they weren’t previously aware of, enriching their lives with meaningful interests.
With over 25,000 consultations, what common patterns have you noticed in how people navigate major life transitions through astrology?
It all depends on how conscious a person is. If a person is ego encapsulated and wants to maintain control of everything in their life, outer planet transits and the major life transitions they bring are considered a crisis.
If a person has grown in consciousness and can accept there are influences beyond their control, major life transitions are seen as evolutionary steps on their soul’s journey.
How does your background in “Experimental Metaphysics” shape your approach to astrology and spiritual guidance?
I was already a successful astrologer when I started pursing my Master of Science degree in “Experimental Metaphysics” in my early 30’s. I wanted to see if astrology could stand up to rigorous academic scrutiny. I was in the Individualized Studies program at Central Washington University requiring me to take half of my required credits from the university’s catalogue and allowing me to design my own individual courses for the other half of the credits.
From the university, I studied “Advanced Statistics”, “Abnormal Psychology and Psi Phenomenon” “World Religions” “Eastern Philosophy” as well as “Experimental Design”. I wanted to know what makes for a sound test for scientific inquiry, and how to spot flaws in experiments falsely claiming, or disclaiming, proof of psi phenomena. I designed courses in “Astrology and Jungian psychology”, “Eastern and Western mysticism”, “The I Ching” and “Non-Traditional Healing”
My scientific training has helped me in keeping my astrology readings relevant and applicable in client’s lives and helps prevent me from making outlandish claims that are not verifiable astrologically. My studies in psychology, philosophy and religions give me many resources to draw from in helping clients through challenges and to continue to grow and evolve in life.
What role do the chakras play in your astrological practice, and how do they complement each other in personal growth?
I became interested in the chakras at the same time I became interested in astrology in the early 70’s. I use my chakras every day in my yoga and meditation practice. I think of it as “tuning my instrument before I play it”. I work with clients every day and I want to be at my best for them and find that yoga and meditation awaken my upper chakras, that lie dormant without attention. The upper chakras awaken intuition, spiritual vision and pure awareness, which all add to the quality of readings.
I have also learned how to remove energy blocks using my work with the chakras, which adds another depth to my readings by sharing with clients techniques for working through energy blocks and imbalances.
In your experience, how can people best use astrology not just for prediction, but for creating a more meaningful and fulfilling life?
This dovetails with the first question in that first and foremost, astrology helps people identify and accept who they most naturally are. Every chart has challenging aspects—astrology doesn’t cause challenges, but it helps identify the root causes and what can be done to move beyond the challenge.
The study of one’s own astrology promotes consciousness growth by helping people become conscious of what they were not conscious of before. Astrology doesn’t limit us, it shows us what issues need to be resolved to continue to grow, evolve, and awaken to our birth potential.
