This week we had the opportunity to talk with Anne St. John – a Medium, Youtuber and writer who will soon release her new book titled “Miles Away”. We learned how she discovered her unusual gift and how she maintains a trusting relationship with her customers.
What inspired you to start your psychic reading business?
Anne St. John: Years ago, I had a reading in a psychic fair. The psychic was a lady who spoke to me in a French accent, laid out the tarot cards, and specifically told me that I was a law student, that I had a brother that passed on, that I had a friend that at the time was not being kind to me, and that I would not finish law school and what I should do is take a business course and become a psychic like her, because I had the same gift. She knew so much about me personally, and she could not have guessed by the plain blue shirt and jeans that I was wearing. There was nothing specific about me. But being a law student, I politely argued that I would finish school, and she insisted that I was wrong and said such kind things that I could not ignore. And she was right about the rest of the reading.
Later that summer, I had to leave law school and my gpa was not the best, but I still remembered that in the best case scenario, the law was not for me, as she once said. Had I not had that reading, I would have felt lost, and heartbroken that I was not able to complete the career I began with all my hopes and dreams wrapped into it. It was a long road, but over twenty years later, I found that my intuitive gift increased beyond what I ever would have imagined. It was the ability and the happiness I have from helping others, as I was helped in the past, that inspired me to become a psychic medium.
What is the most popular type of reading that customers are looking for? What are the most common concerns that interest them?
ASJ: My services are mostly for those that are looking to connect to a loved one that has passed on. As a Medium, I help those in Spirit tell the client everything that they can about who they are, and what they want to communicate from the HereAfter. My role is more of a translator, as I am able to even channel the messages word for word at times. Mostly what is concerning my guests at the reading is to hear the messages from their family, or a loved one that would help give them closure, or just the comfort of hearing from them one last time. Just one word from the Heavens can make a huge impact on someone that is here still working through their lifetime.
What is the most important detail in maintaining a relationship of mutual trust with customers?
ASJ: In my experience, there has to be a balance between validating information and giving new information from the soul that is passed on. I ask my guests to keep an open mind and connect the dots as to why particular souls would give me signs, or symbols instead of just telling them outright what it means.
Sometimes a soul will talk over my head, so that the guest will understand something without me understanding the meaning. And sometimes the soul will give me a symbol to validate themselves just to give their loved one something special to remember that no one else would know.
If I get a symbol of baby’s breath, it may be that the mom is telling her daughter that she is there because only she would understand that the flowers would be eventually tossed out and the baby’s breath would remain, because that was her actual favorite. And it may also mean that the daughter has some of that flower alone in a vase on her table at home. But by saying to her, ‘Why is your mom showing me baby’s breath?’, she may gain more than me trying to tell her each and every connection, just be showing me the symbol.
Are some types of psychic readings more demanding or difficult than others?
ASJ: Yes, and I hope to clarify that you have to be ready to hear the message. Some on our side of the veil are very interested in hearing from one particular soul. But it may be that the one person that they want to hear from, is willing to give up the time to another soul to make sure that healing or better messages come through as needed.
I can understand why someone would want to connect with just one person that past away, but it is important to acknowledge that there may be a reason why you have others that want to chime in during a reading so that they can say help, or prayers, or maybe that they want you to evolve into a better version of you. Every soul has a purpose for being there in your life and in the reading.
What advice would you give to a new psychic reader? Is it better for them to work independently or as part of a team?
ASJ: First, they should understand that they are not crazy! Not even a little. Just the intuitive gift of telling someone in a tarot reading that they are going to get better at the job, or the love life needs umbrellas from all the tears of joy that will happen, is a gift.
Call it as you see it – or hear it – if that is how you are getting your messages. Trust yourself to give out the kitchen sink – if that is what you are seeing. Because the more you trust those in Heaven to help you, the more they will trust you with to help others. And the meaning of these messages do not always resonate with us as psychics. Just say it out loud and even if it does not make sense now, it may make a world of difference later when they figure it out.
I always chose to work independently, but if you find a great mentor at a psychic fair, that can always help you. I find it best to pray in gratitude, for the reasons that the souls have given me, and also to meditate for the answers that I need. Prayer and meditation is how I began to open the gift of intuitive readings.
Do you have a special message for our readers in these difficult times?
ASJ: Always trust the guidance that you have within. God is listening. Angels and guides are opening doors for you. Don’t give up. There is a reason for why you have to be where you are and in the interest of your time, remember that Heaven is awaiting the day that you are feeling better to give you better living and joy, just by staying the course and not leaving this earth early.
I am currently channeling a book from my brother and other souls in Heaven about suicide. So many of us fall victim to loss, and grief and depression. Suicide effects the souls in Heaven as well as those of us on earth. You would be amazed at the lessons that my brother had to learn after taking his life by his own hand, and how it took him longer to get to the place he needed to be in Heaven. Even though he was always safe and in Heaven since his passing, he still had so many more challenges to overcome, and wished that he had just remained here in his family on earth.
