Can you share a bit about your personal spiritual journey and what led you to become a Breathwork Facilitator and Spiritual Business Coach?
Like most good things in life, they tend to find us when we are not looking for them. Breathwork found me when I stumbled across a workshop in Colorado called “Spirit Fest.” I’ll never forget that very first session where I was filled from head to toe with pleasure and euphoria, and the words that came to me were, “everything you’ve been looking for lies within your breath.”
Before I found breathwork, I struggled with binge eating disorder for six years of my life, turning to shopping and relationship jumping in search of external pleasure to fill a void.
I was immediately hooked after that first breathwork session and tried to attend as many breathwork experiences as I could find. I then went on my first-ever breathwork retreat and experienced my first-ever somatic release, where I started hyperventilating, and my body started breathing itself. I was able to release a physical pain in my stomach that I had had for as long as I could remember. I haven’t experienced that sensation since that retreat—it was life-changing.
As I released the pain and tightness in my belly, I felt so much fear release too. I felt rejuvenated. Afterwards, I knew how life-changing this was for me and did as many group breathwork sessions as I could get my hands on. I then completed multiple breathwork teacher trainings before starting my own Breathwork Certification.
I am also a spiritual business coach and incorporate breathwork with my clients so that they can gain clarity and release unprocessed emotions on their entrepreneurial journey.
Could you describe the core principles or techniques that you use in your breathwork practice?
My favorite style of breathwork is called circular connected breath. It’s practiced by breathing in and out through the mouth in a circular connected way with no pause at the top of the breath and no pause at the bottom of the breath. I have a good friend who is also a breathwork facilitator, and she guides me in weekly 90-minute circular connected breathwork sessions. These longer, deeper sessions help me connect spiritually and process unprocessed emotions.
I also practice awareness of my breath and my energy levels throughout the day. If I feel tired, I use a breathwork technique to energize myself. If I have trouble falling asleep, I use a breathwork technique to activate my parasympathetic “rest and digest” part of my nervous system. I do my best to breathe in and out through my nose during everyday activities for optimal health benefits.
How can Breathwork help individuals on their spiritual path or personal development journey?
Breathwork is a powerful tool that helps people quiet their prefrontal cortex so that the subconscious mind can surface. My favorite style of breathwork for spiritual growth is circular connected breath.
We like to say that breathwork always gives you exactly what you need. When it comes to processing unprocessed emotions, it will reveal things that you need to address and process. When it comes to receiving clarity, breathwork will support you in generating ideas and thinking creatively.
There are various styles of breathwork, and different styles serve different purposes. Box breathing is excellent for cultivating focus. Four-eight breathing, inhaling for four seconds and exhaling for eight seconds, is great for making it easier to fall asleep. In my opinion, circular connected breath is the best style of breathwork for spiritual connection and deepening your personal development journey.
What are some common challenges people face when trying to integrate spirituality into their business or career, and how do you help them overcome these challenges?
Often when you aim to grow your business, you hire a business mentor to determine the right business strategy. Sometimes the strategies a business mentor suggests may not align with you.
That’s why I guide all of my business coaching clients through breathwork, so they can find clarity on what feels right for them.
When you do breathwork with the intention of gaining business clarity, you connect to your own intuition and discover what truly excites you.
I have my clients do breathwork to connect to their intuition, get excited about their creations, and then we back their ideas with a business strategy that works for them.
Many people may be curious about starting their spiritual journey. What advice do you have for someone who is just beginning to explore spirituality and self-discovery?
If you’re wondering where to start on your spiritual journey, try breathwork and see if it resonates with you. I think that breathwork is easier than meditation because you are actively doing something. You’re influencing your breath, and that change creates a shift in brain chemistry, making it easier to feel results and sense that “something is happening” compared to traditional silent meditation practices.
Sitting still and quieting the mind can be challenging. Breathwork and meditation offer different benefits. Traditional meditation supports building focus and awareness, while breathwork helps process unprocessed emotions and gain clarity.
