Nestled in the heart of Minnesota, Will Heal Farm is more than just a patch of green—it’s a living, breathing collaboration between nature, spirit, and community.
In this exclusive MysticMag interview, founder Rachel Nudd shares how a family legacy and a passion for herbal healing inspired her and her husband Pat to steward the land with intention and heart. From handcrafted salves to immersive workshops, their mission is all about helping others reconnect with the natural rhythms of wellness.
With a touch of humor and a deep love for plants, Rachel invites others to experience the magic of herbal medicine firsthand.
What inspired you to start Will Heal Farm?
When I met my husband Pat in Colorado, he wanted to grow food & medicinal herbs. At the same time, my Grandfather passed away and left the farm to our family. Those two synchronicities brought us to Minnesota to steward Will Heal Farm, which we envisioned as a place where people could connect to nature and plant spirit.
How do you incorporate herbal medicine into everyday wellness?
We have a running joke called “Heal Belly Health,” where we are characters (with southern or Scottish accents, depending on the day) who teach everyone the basics of everyday wellness on our YouTube Channel.
In seriousness, Herbal medicine is woven into our days through teas, infusions, salves, tinctures, and flower essences. We try to be “solution-oriented.” Just like anyone, we have health things that come up, and herbal medicine is always a first resort to bring things back into balance.
What are some of the most popular herbs you grow and what are their benefits?
Well, first, I want to say we don’t sell bulk herbs unless we have a large quantity. We do sell Herbal Salves. One of our most effective ointments is called Bug Bite Relief, which is made to bring relief to people sensitive to mosquito bites. It comes in a spray and a salve and is applied before the bite is scratched, actually making bites disappear.
Our most popular would be our Everyday Salv, which contains Calendula, Plantain, & Comfrey. These herbs are amazing together! Our Lion’s Liniment is a crowd favorite for tendonitis, aching arthritis in the hands, and pinched sciatic nerves. It contains St John’s Wort flowers, Arnica, & Helichrysum.
How do you ensure sustainability in your farming practices?
We never use chemicals of any type on our farm. My husband is the “Green Man”, and he has a natural gift for collecting and starting seeds. He makes a detailed map of the farm every year and rotates crops which eliminates most pest issues.
His soil is rich with compost, so his plants are resilient & mineral-rich. We practice “no till” because tilling the soil disturbs the beneficial microbes that create the synthesis for strong plants and medicinal herbs.
What can visitors expect from workshops and events at the farm?
We love to garden with Volunteers on Fridays from May to September, and send them home with whatever is in season, including herbs when available.
People can check the event page on our website to see the upcoming yoga, sound bath, and Biofield Tuning events. We weave sound into an Energy Cleansing & Tuning, which Pat & I do together in our Yurt.
We also love to host facilitators of breathwork, yoga, mantra, ecstatic dance, herbal education, or healing retreats. I also offer one-on-one sessions of Acupuncture & Biofield Tuning year-round.
Angie Spartz, transformational life coach, and I are co-hosting one of our True You retreats this 8-8-2025. This is a women’s retreat for anyone who would like to liberate their inner joy. We will have time for gentle movement, Biofield tuning, self-reflection, group activities, delicious food & snacks, as well as play & fun!
We also have a fun solstice day planned on Sunday, 6/22, with a Sound Bath Experience in the late morning, and a plant-focused printmaking class hosted by Angie Renee in the afternoon.
Anyone can join us on Fridays, May through September, even if you just want to do a little plant walk and explore what is here. Just text me the day before to let me know you are coming!
We have many medicinal plants all year round, and many are available for other herbalists to harvest in small quantities for a donation.
Last but not least, we have the best honey in our area! Pat is a beekeeper, and we sell honey from the farm year-round. Right now, we are down to just a few jars left from last year. Watch our website around July 2025 when he harvests last year’s honey.
What advice do you have for someone new to herbal healing?
Watch out for statements like: Take Echinacea for Colds. Feverfew treats Headaches. Ginger treats Nausea. Ashwagandha is good for Sleep. While all of these statements are true there is a more important distinction that can help you find the right herbs for you. In herbalism, we call this “Tissue States”, in Ayurveda, they call it “Doshas,” and in homeopathy, it would be called “Constitution.”
It is very helpful to consult with an herbalist, take an online course, or learn more about Ayurveda. There are even free quizzes online to determine your Dosha. The three types are based on the elements of Earth, Water, Fire & Ai, and how your body responds best to food & herbs. As you learn more about yourself, you will no doubt find 5-7 herbs that work very well for you in a variety of situations. Continue to spend time actually connecting with plants and being in nature! That is what it is all about.
