Can you share the story behind the founding of Integrated Consciousness Bodywork (ICB)? How did it all begin?
Integrated Consciousness Bodywork was the amalgamation of The BodyTalk Practice and Training Centre (Dr Eugene Botha) with Bodyworks (owned by Shannon Betts).
In working with Dr Botha for my own personal rehabilitation, my journey in the discovery of just how closely knitted the environmental, belief and emotional experiences of one’s life was to that of the physical expressions of the body – in the exact situation of my injury. I came to the realization of how valuable the amalgamation of our business platforms could be in the way we would then be able to further support, and influence the health and wellbeing at all levels for those who were drawn to work with us.
The development of the name originated from the idea of:
INTEGRATED (based on the concept of integration) – the importance of integrating all aspects of ourselves (physical, mental, emotional, spiritual and consciousness) when receiving these modalities.
CONSCIOUSNESS – the work we are doing is mostly about the idea of helping people recollect their innate consciousness – their innate state of being which, when realised, aligns them into a multitude of transformations, Self-awareness, and through this the bodymind realigns to its natural self-healing ability.
BODYWORK – the work being done is primarily accessed through the physical aspect of the biomuscular feedback used in The BodyTalk System™, and the static response points (information/anchor points) used in the Fascia Response modality.
Ultimately – the integration of consciousness work and body-work.
What inspired you to integrate such diverse modalities like BodyTalk, QHHT®, and Fascia Response into one center?
The integration of various modalities are a necessary tool to be able to offer varied directional approaches for the support and healing the clients are looking for – a complementary technique to meet everyone’s need. Each modality varies from the next in “how” it helps the body heal itself and brings various threads into play to influence a response for improvement.
BodyTalk is quite unique. Can you explain how the techniques work and what benefits it offers?
In simple terms we approach the body from the perspective that everything is formed governed through energy fields. These energy fields are information fields and when they combine, meet and integrate they form patterns known as morphogenetic fields. This is then understood to influence particle patterning and environmental fields around the pattern, forming the body and everything it is in and around it. Then we also understand that with everything being energy and that all energy patterns influence each other, the body’s internal environment is interconnected and in continuous communication throughout the system and so too, it is in constant communication with the environment. These connections can be compromising to the system when in a negative influence such as stress for example and can then effect compromises in the body’s energy field communication that then leads to malfunctions at mental, emotional and physical levels. The body experiences a compromise in communication between the various systems and then struggles with its ability to maintain its natural self-healing ability.
In a session we would take a history and check with the client on a session focus and challenges or goals they may have. Then with the client lying down we firstly establish a connection for communication with the innate wisdom of the body (the part of us that knows everything about us) through neuromuscular biofeedback (tugging on the arm for a response of resistance and less resistance to establish no and yes responses). This then allows the practitioner to communicate and be guided by the innate wisdom to where the compromised communication is, how to address it and the priority sequence in which the healing is to be addressed. E.G. The innate wisdom may guide us to reestablish a communication link between the liver and pancreas, with a focus on sugar balancing and fat metabolism. It may indicate an alignment with a stressful environment such as work and an emotional release of worry from the liver. It may follow on to more links.
The adjustment of these links will then influence corrections in the morphogenetic pattern of that body and the body adapts to an improved healthier state.
From this experience we have come to understand that the body knows best what and how to address optimised healing. We therefore do not work with diagnosis or prognosis and rather influence the self-healing ability the body innately has. It has been observed by researchers such as Dr Bruce Lipton that the body responds to this type of energy healing 100 times faster than to chemicals.
For those unfamiliar with energy healing, how would you explain the potential impact it can have on their physical and emotional well-being?
The modalities work with state of the art understanding of how the body works beyond the cartesian model that sees the body as individually functioning parts like a machine. This is a very outdated view and it is well known that there is much benefit to treating challenges in a body from a wholistic energy perspective for optimal healing. The sessions influence the body as a whole and we find it integrates well with other treatments a person may be having with no side effects. In many cases as the body is enhanced in its self-healing strengths we find that the body responds better to other treatments and complements the process.
We have seen improvement and benefits for health, rehabilitation, performance(sport, study, exams, work), growth and development (children), general well-being, health maintenance and personal growth.
If there is one piece of advice you could give to someone seeking holistic healing, what would it be?
Your body never makes mistakes, it is expressing PERFECTLY for exactly what you have given it to experience. When working holistically, it is important to connect with modalities that can help you learn about your body more, to understand it for what it is and to reconnect with your innate wisdom. It’s a powerful being, capable of many powerful things.
