Charles Virtue, a renowned spiritual teacher, shares his transformative journey from managing his mother’s office to becoming a guiding light for many seeking spiritual growth. In his exclusive MysticMag interview, he discusses his beginnings, his approach to helping others connect with their angels, and the motivation that keeps him dedicated to his path.
What were your professional beginnings like and what led you down this spiritual path in life?
I started teaching spiritual classes in 2007 when I was 28, but before that, my professional life was quite different. From the year 2000, I assisted my mother with her work. I managed a home office, taking phone calls and emails for class registrations. At the same time, I was in college, aiming for a career in the medical field. I became certified as an EMT, working in ambulances, with aspirations of becoming a doctor or a paramedic.
Interestingly, my mother always told me that I would eventually take over her role as a spiritual teacher, which seemed impossible to me at the time. I struggled with self-confidence, shyness, and mild agoraphobia, making the idea of teaching daunting. Despite my fear, I always felt a calling to help others. However, the public aspect of teaching was terrifying and kept me awake at night.
As I continued my education and worked with my mother, I found myself increasingly unsatisfied. On paper, everything seemed perfect, but my heart was unfulfilled. Eventually, I reached a breaking point and quit working for my mother. It wasn’t an emotional outburst; I simply told her I couldn’t do it anymore. I was scared of public speaking and intimidated by my mother’s accomplishments. I couldn’t imagine anyone wanting to attend my classes.
I took various jobs, including managing an auto repair shop, trying to avoid my spiritual calling. None of these jobs brought me satisfaction, and I even dropped out of college, which was uncharacteristic for me as I enjoyed learning. Clearly, I was meant to be a spiritual teacher, but I was resisting it.
A couple of years after leaving my mother’s work, I finally considered the possibility of teaching spiritual classes. I asked my mother if she still thought it was a good idea, and she was very supportive. In 2007, I began teaching, and I’ve been doing it ever since.
How can you help a person connect with their angels, and what are your in-person classes like?
I consider myself like the maestro of an orchestra, where I’m not the talent per se, but I help guide the path and cadence of the room. All a human can do for another, regardless of being a spiritual teacher, is introduce them to the concept of angels or other spirit beings around us. From the beginning, I’ve said that I don’t make anyone connect with angels; I offer a safe place for them to do so and provide practical tips to overcome internal blocks. These blocks can stem from past lives, we can be born with them, or they can be enforced on us by our society.
To answer this question bluntly, the way I help people connect with angels is by confirming that they are real and affirming that connecting with them is as simple as initiating communication on your own by simply asking.
In my in-person classes, I aim to create a safe space. I talk about what the experience of connecting and communicating with angels, discussing the various ways they communicate—through thoughts, feelings, etc. I also give people opportunities to practice. Anyone can connect with angels. I emphasize this in every class, even though it might not be the best business strategy to reveal that my classes aren’t strictly necessary to do it. However, taking classes offers advantages. To have deep spiritual experiences, you must put yourself out there, take a leap of faith, and step into the unknown. Many students fear that if they try to connect with angels and fail, it will shatter their belief system. I understand these fears and relate to them with my own journey.
I encourage students to take a chance and reach out to the angels. I tell them to set aside their logical, critical mindset and try connecting with their heart instead of overthinking and overanalyzing. Angel communication is about allowing rather than initiating or creating. It’s understanding that the connection has always been there, but our thought processes and perceptions have been in the way.
Over the years, I’ve found this approach very successful. Many students return, and I receive numerous compliments. Among the many different teachers and methods for working with angels, I humbly believe that mine is among the most beginner-friendly ones. I strive to create a community-oriented, peer-based atmosphere where everyone understands that I don’t consider myself above anyone due to my experience or background. We are all equal and equally powerful. It’s about letting go, getting past doubts and fears, and allowing the angels to prove the authenticity of their messages and their very existence.
You also offer a variety of downloadable classes. What can people hope to learn from them and what different kinds do you offer?
My downloadable classes have a different format compared to my in-person classes given that I’m speaking to an individual, who also might not be able to practice in the same way they could in a group setting. This format provides flexible, self-paced learning. I try to stay away from any rituals, as I don’t believe you need one to communicate with angels. However, there are certain tips, such as breathing exercises, centering yourself, spending time in prayer, and not overthinking fragmented messages or signs that might not make sense in the moment. This approach helps people understand that communicating with angels is a gradual, integrative process rather than a straightforward conversation. It becomes a part of your life. The angels are constantly there as the air around us is.
Over time, angels guide us gently according to our needs, fears, doubts, manifestations, etc. My downloadable classes allow people to explore this work at their own pace, which many appreciate. I’ve had people register and then not engage with the material for years, finding comfort in the freedom to learn when they feel ready.
Back in 2007 and the decade prior, there were many stigmas around spiritual work, so many people preferred downloadable classes. They didn’t want to disclose their interests to others, fearing judgment from family or coworkers, or due to potential religious conflicts. Today, the spiritual landscape is more open-minded, with mediums and Tarot readers prevalent on platforms like TikTok and Instagram. However, downloadable classes still offer a unique avenue for different types of learners.
In these classes, I teach various subjects, including angelic mediumship, which addresses fears by ensuring a safe, positive connection, without worrying about any dark messages or connecting with anything we don’t want to. Some of the classes I offer are the same as those I teach in person, such as my Angel Certification Program, Teacher Training, and Archangel Life Coaching. The catalog of my classes evolved organically and each one felt right to record and offer at the time.
Overall, my downloadable online classes cater to those who prefer learning at their own pace, in the privacy of their homes, and without the pressure of immediate engagement. This flexibility allows individuals to delve into spiritual work in a way that suits their unique needs and circumstances.
What motivates you to keep doing the work you’re doing?
I won’t say that any path we take in life, whether it be a spiritual path, a more mainstream path, or a combination, is meant to be completely easy and without its challenges. Over the years, I’ve definitely questioned if I was meant to continue doing this work. Sometimes this was because I felt a particular class was no longer necessary, as the core spiritual understanding of the world had evolved and caught up to what the classes were teaching. In such cases, I either updated the class or stopped offering it. For example, my entry-level Angel Certified Practitioner (ACP) class has been updated multiple times to ensure it remains relevant and provides current information.
What keeps me motivated to continue teaching is the strong sense that this is my purpose. Despite the challenges and doubts, there’s an inner knowing that reassures me I’m on the right path. Additionally, the continued interest and positive feedback from students affirm that my work is valuable. From the beginning, I’ve maintained that my teaching isn’t about fame or personal gain but about genuinely helping people. Each teacher has a unique style, and I believe that those meant to learn from my approach will find and benefit from my classes. As long as there are people who are able to benefit from my unique way of teaching, I will continue to offer my services.
Like anyone, I occasionally struggle with insecurities and impostor syndrome. However, there hasn’t been a moment where I felt my time as a spiritual teacher was over. I’ve been doing this for so long that it has become an integral part of who I am. Whether classes are bustling or slow, particularly during challenging times like the pandemic, I remain committed to my work. I understand that spiritual classes can be considered a luxury expense, especially during economic downturns, and I respect that people have other priorities. However, ultimately, I trust that if I’m meant to do something different, I’ll be guided accordingly, just as I teach my students to follow their own guidance. So, I continue to await further instructions from my angels, confident that I’m still on the right path. If the time comes for a change, I trust that guidance will be clear, just as it was at the beginning of my teaching journey.
