Can you share a few details about your professional journey and how you got into Bach Flower Remedies and Sound Healing?
I have always loved nature and flowers, I grew up in Hampshire and was a frequent visitor to the New Forest, the forest floor in spring was covered in bluebells and snowdrops I thought it was a divine environment, Untouched, Ancient, like a portal to another world where time stopped. I also got lots of inspiration from my grandmother who was a keen gardener and I remember walking down the path to her house as a child when we would visit, being met with rows of flowers, Hollyhocks, Delphinium, Tulips, taller than me, so beautiful! The scents, the colours… That memory has always stayed with me I thought they were divine.
As an adult I worked for the NHS for 20 years, during that time I did Reiki training, and Biofield tuning training (utilizing tuning forks) to clear blockages in the Biofield. It was after my father died I took some time out from that environment and had my first Gong bath. During the sound bath every cell in my body was vibrating, I was transported in and out of waking consciousness and my body felt like it was releasing held onto stresses. It was shortly after that I started training to become a sound practitioner with the Collage of Sound. I also found I had the time to Train in Bach flower remedies and with my love of flowers, what better way to help people? During the pandemic I started foraging and have been making my own body products and auric sprays, salves, etc. using plant material I collected, That led me to want a deeper understanding of the medicinal uses of the flowers and herbs and I am at present training to become a Community Herbalist.
What are the benefits Bach Flower Remedies can offer?
Bach Flower Essences are Liquid plant extracts that help change negative emotions into positive ones, they are powerful tools for inner change & transformation and can help with a whole range of issues; from how you’re thinking & feeling in the moment, to deeply held life patterns and blocks in your subtle energy systems, like peeling back layers of an onion teasing out held on to emotions, they work with you on an energetic level and on all levels of your being from balancing core emotions and thought patterns, through to transforming old blocks in your bodies chakras and subtle energy systems.
Flower essences are a gentle support, helping us deal with everyday emotions, fears, and worries. They can work for immediate emotions like fear or shock which something like Rescue Remedy would be given.
How does Vibrational Sound Healing actually work?
When we are in our waking state going about our day we are in what’s called a Beta Brain wave state. Life is moving at a fast pace and we are constantly bombarded with electro magnetic frequencies that keep us alert with the sympathetic nervous system switched on. Most of us are in fight or flight mode on a daily basis due to the stresses of daily life, our work hours, the wifi frequencies all around us, and even the foods we eat can cause stress on our bodies which then causes us to release hormones such as cortisol, adrenaline, noradrenaline. A perpetual cycle. Sound Healing works by taking us from that high beta state down into a theta brain wave state which is deep relaxation.
During the sound massage gentle harmonious sounds bathe the whole body at a cellular level, this helps the system to balance itself by releasing the denser energy that can hold the body in an unhealthy state. It is about retuning and rebalancing, therefore creating harmony, and allowing the body to find its own optimum vibration. It is in this theta state the mind is out of the way and the body can release and turn off the sympathetic nervous system leading to deep restorative rest. This is an ideal modality for people who find it hard to relax, meditate and just switch off, because after 10 – 15 minutes the sound entrains the brain and just moves you through those states into theta or delta (sleep) state no matter your resistance to let go.
You use a few different sound healing modalities, such as Alchemy Bowl therapy and Himalayan Bowls therapy. What is the difference between them?
I don’t believe there is a difference in the differing tools I use ie gong or alchemy bowls. They all work in the same way it is just the preference of the sounds people like to surround their selves in. Some people like the Gong and not so much the Bowls. Others love the bowls but not the Gong. It really is about finding what works for you. Every person’s experience and preference is unique to them. All of my tools work to take you from that Beta state into Theta a deep restorative state for the body and mind.
What can you tell me about your Mindfulness Nature guide?
Have you ever gone for a walk in the woods with your headphones on, or perhaps your mind chatter is so loud you are not really in the woods, you’re in your head, in your thoughts, or doing rather than being. Mindfulness nature connection is about being guided through invitations to that connection with nature through our senses.
Allowing yourself to spend a moment exploring, feeling the texture of the bark of a tree, just being in that moment with that experience. Or maybe sitting in a spot for a time period, just listening, feeling the elements, maybe slight rain or the wind on your face, the different sounds you can notice the rustle of the leaves as the wind blows through the trees. Nature has the ability to improve our mood and provide positive distractions from everyday woes, through being softly fascinated with the awe of Nature our minds can relax and restore. When we go into nature to truly be in that present moment it is a way to deeply relax, we are all so busy we forget to connect with those amazing moments and just be rather than doing.
Is there anything else about your work that you’d like to share that we haven’t covered?
I want to empower people to take care of their selves by coming into a state of relaxation and being mindful of their emotional health. It is about preventative health rather than waiting for a crisis moment. All of my modalities are about nature connection be it through the Bach remedies or Herbs, through body products made naturally chemically free, or my auric sprays for grounding made in the cycle of the moon and infused with my homegrown herbs. Or sounds that invite deep restorative rest allowing the body to release and let go. I want to invite people to look at what we put in and on our bodies and become aware of the ways our health is impacted by these choices.
Dr Bach invisioned hospitals of the future being ones where the patients made decisions with the doctors about their healthcare needs, it was based on environments of deep relaxation where a person could release the dis-ease and allow healing. Nature is our ally we are in a cycle of breath with her. She breathes out oxygen which we breathe in, we breathe out carbon dioxide which she breathes in. Every plant and flower or tree is infused in that cycle of life-giving breath, we are in a recipricol relationship with nature. We just need to slow down and connect with her in that heartfelt moment to reap amazing benefits.
