How did you become interested in Astrology and how did it become your calling?
I was in college (1970) and had a reading from a friend who was studying to become an astrologer. Using only my date of birth, she said many things that were quite general but one was so specific and accurate that I left our session knowing that I had to learn more about astrology. When I went to the Minneapolis Public Library the next week to research astrology they only had one book. Fortunately, I found a metaphysical bookstore soon after. Once I started studying I felt like I was remembering something I already knew. I was so inspired and uplifted by the discoveries and self-awareness that came from studying astrology I started practicing on my friends and then charging for sessions. After hearing from friends about how helpful the information was, I decided to pursue astrology as a career and got some formal training from a school in California in 1977.
What do your astrological sessions look like?
I offer birth chart readings for adults and children. The chart holds a narrative about who we are, our strengths and weaknesses, our souls’ journey and purpose for this incarnation, and more. I offer forecast sessions for one year or five years. These focus on understanding the cycles and working with them. I offer chart comparisons for love relationships and families. These help you understand the other people in your life and how you relate.
Clients fill out an online form before we meet with birth information and specifics about what they would like to discuss. My sessions typically last an hour (on Zoom) and are quite conversational, focusing on helping the client to understand themselves and their cycles more clearly. Rather than a “one size fits all” kind of session, each one is specifically tailored for each client. Each session is recorded for the client, and I also give clients tools to work with each cycle and sometimes specific timing for significant life events.
What can a person hope to achieve with your spiritual guidance?
I think it’s very different for each person. Some clients are more focused on everyday life and get guidance about work, love, health, and money. Others focus on personal growth and their spiritual evolution. Astrology can help you with all of this, along with bringing insight into family of origin, intergenerational trauma, emotional habit patterns, and creating self-acceptance. Most clients say they feel seen, affirmed, and gain a greater understanding of themselves and their life cycles through our work.
What can you tell me about your work as an author and a speaker?
After losing my identical twin sister to cancer in 2005 I began writing about the experience. I’d written columns for astrological magazines and many newsletters and blogs, but writing a book was much more complex. I found a writing teacher in 2008 and published Star Sisters: An Astrologer’s Memoir of Twin Loss in 2019. Writing and publishing were a primary part of my healing, and gave me insights into a current focus of my astrological practice, “death charts”. I began planning my national speaking tour for early 2020. Unfortunately, because of Covid, that was postponed and then canceled. I enjoyed many local appearances at bookstores and have given lectures in astrology both in person and online.
I am currently working on a second book; a “how-to” for other astrologers and astrology students on using a “death chart” to counsel the bereaved.
What sets you apart from your colleagues?
I’m queer, Jewish, an adoptive parent, and have been practicing astrology full-time since 1977. I focus on building relationships with my clients and offer packages and other in-depth options not offered elsewhere. In addition, I have created sessions for those looking to heal from the loss of a loved one, called “death charts” and they focus on creating a path forward out of loss. I work closely with therapists, life-coaches and have a wonderful referral system for clients who need additional support.
