Today, Mystic Mag had the opportunity to interview Dr. Carrie Phillips from Blue Spark Health. We talked about her career, Naturopathic Medicine, and what can a person expect from her sessions.
When did you first know that being a healer was your calling and how did it come about?
I always felt called to do healing work, I just didn’t know in what capacity. I felt an innate awareness of something beyond the physical world. Entering into motherhood it became clearer to me that I was really meant to do this type of work. I had the good fortune to deliver four healthy children naturally with the help of midwives in an unconventional setting. This felt like a pivotal moment in my life, trying to make quick decisions all the while feeling so vulnerable. Here I was blessed with beautiful water births while many of my peers faced invasive deliveries and c-sections and sometimes even the same for their new infants’ enduring oftentimes unnecessary pediatric procedures and interventions during their vulnerable transit into the physical world. I knew there were other options. And I wanted to help by sharing them.
What is Blue Spark Health and what services do you offer?
Blue Spark Health was founded post medical school and after intensive training in Shamanic medicine. While entering into private practice I quickly became aware of the need for addressing the spiritual side of health and wellness as it’s commonly overlooked. It is critical to one’s healing journey, let’s not forget we are energetic and spiritual beings.
I help individuals and families bring much needed ritual back into our lives by combining the typical milestone visits with relevant ceremony.
Therefore, creating a healing space that combines the philosophy of Naturopathic medicine and the work of Shamanism/Energy Medicine together for optimal healing was essential.
How would you describe Naturopathic Medicine, and what is its main advantage compared to conventional medicine?
As a naturopathic physician I do everything a conventional medicine doctor does, except that our overall approach to patient care differs. Medical doctors treat symptoms and disease with standard protocols. We as NDs treat the whole person getting to the root cause with an individualized approach. My particular focus is the mind-body connection. I’m known for saying “if you heal the mind, you heal the body.” My passion is Shamanic medicine. This is an ancient Mayan healing modality that involves ceremonies like cord cuttings, space clearings, soul retrievals and more.
What can a person expect from it?
A person can expect holistic centered healing. This includes attending to any immediate physical concerns while uncovering unaddressed deep spiritual needs.
While I have the ability to prescribe medications on a traditional level. My preference is to alternatively prescribe botanical medicines. Our Universe has provided us with an abundance of natural healing herbs we can use to make powerful medicines. Did you know that plants that grow locally are not 10 times stronger or 100 times stronger but 1,000 times stronger!
What is the most important detail in maintaining a relationship of mutual trust with clients?
The most important detail to me is taking the time to get to know a patient so I can understand how to best treat them and together we build a relationship that fosters what healing looks like for them on a physical, emotional, and spiritual level.
What do you love most about your profession?
In practice I love to be able to diagnose physical ailments while taking a deeper dive into the mental and emotional piece of symptoms that could be coming from unrealized soul sickness.
