Today, Mystic Mag‘s Marko Velimirovic had the opportunity to speak with Thomas Mitchell from Mitchell Chiropractic Healing Center. We talked about his beginnings, services he offers, and how he maintains a relationship of mutual trust with clients.
When did you first know that being a Chiropractor was your calling and how did it come about?
I had almost gone into a pre-med program after graduating from high school, but I realized that I would not feel comfortable in a career that only uses drugs and surgery. So I was unsure of what career path I would take, and ended up getting an MBA. A few months after graduating from business school, I saw a chiropractor for the first time and immediately had the realization that was my true career path! Thirteen years later I enrolled in chiropractic college and changed my career.
What services do you offer?
My own personal experience with healing has led me to offer many different healing modalities. In addition to chiropractic, I also utilize Ayurvedic pulse diagnosis, botanical medicines, and acupuncture. I have a class IV laser, and also offer pulsed electromagnetic field (pEMF) therapy, myofascial release, red and far infrared light therapy, and traction. I frequently use functional blood chemistry analysis to screen for common health problems such as diabetes and thyroid dysfunction. Finally, I employ homeopathic medicines when indicated.
Could you tell us more about The Three-Pronged Approach
In order to heal at the deepest level it’s necessary to evaluate the state of health from different perspectives. The body, mind, emotions and our inner self or soul are one integrated whole, but we can get different insights by using different lenses. First, we look at the structural integrity of the body, which is intimately related to the function of the nervous system. Then we have to consider the energetic balance and the flow of life force energy in the body. Finally, optimal nutritional support through appropriate food choices and botanical medicines helps to support optimal health. In my experience, using all of these approaches together results in the deepest level of healing and promotes ideal health.
What can a person expect from your sessions?
They can, first of all, expect that we will listen carefully to them and work with them to develop a plan to achieve their health goals. The type of treatment or plan depends upon what the health problem is and what the goals are.
What is the most important detail in maintaining a relationship of mutual trust with clients?
Patients trust doctors when they feel they have been heard, are being treated with compassion, offered clear choices, and when communication is non-judgemental and non-manipulative.
Ultimately, my goal is to always develop a collaborative relationship with each patient so that the patient leaves with tools to support their own health and recognizes that we are partners in healing.
What do you love most about your profession?
I love that my profession recognizes and works with the innate capacity of the body to heal itself. I value the focus on preventing disease and maintaining optimal health and vitality. And I have great faith in treatments and therapies that do not create unwanted side effects.
