Please tell us the story behind Massaggi: How did it all start, and how has it evolved so far?
I’m Ben Pianese, a sports massage therapist, business owner and professional coach. As interesting as it sounds, Massaggi began as one man’s desire to ease the emotional discomfort, stress, and stiffness of those in need and has turned into a well-established, successful business that serves an ever-growing clientele.

How do you integrate coaching and massage for your clients?
For me, coaching is indeed a utility tool to maintain a meaningful interaction throughout the session. The body and mind are closely connected. Combining coaching with bodywork gives clarity of thought and helps me understand what my clients need.
As a professional coach and massage therapist, I enjoy explaining how my methods work because it makes for a very productive session. And since clients appreciate this approach so much, they tend to feel more attuned and connected with their bodies.

As a coach and massage therapist, are there any nonnegotiable practices you use personally to maintain your self-care?
I take a proactive approach to staying in shape and leading a healthy lifestyle. Each day, I take time for quiet contemplation, meditation, and exercise to ensure my spiritual, mental, and physical well-being. I prefer healthy eating and regular exercise, which are part of my strict schedule. I also take weekends to relax and ensure I am rested enough to return to my work refreshed.
Even during the busiest work schedule, I aim to save some of my free moments to ensure that I emerge sound, feel energetic, and refreshed after each shift. While adopting this practice personally is helpful, it’s also essential for me to impart this kind of ‘balance’ to my clientele as well.
If you had one tip to help us get on a path to a more balanced lifestyle, what would that be?
The most important lesson I have encountered throughout my career is maintaining a balance in my personal and professional life. It can be a challenge and an advantage for young entrepreneurs working very hard to develop their businesses. I feel it’s crucial to not devote yourself fully to one thing or the other but should maintain a healthy balance between your personal and work lives.
Doing so will prevent you from accumulating stress and make you much more organized with considerable time management skills. It is also thoughtful to talk with someone about what you might be struggling with, whether it be an employee that needs help with their workload or a friend or family member who wants to give advice based on what they know will benefit you most.
