This week, we had the opportunity to meet Julie Turner-Adkin from Healing Possibilities. We discussed her beginnings, her relationship with customers, and what she loves most about her profession.
When did you first realize you have a healing gift and how did it come about?
From a very young age I was aware of spirits around me, although as I saw them literally, I thought they were friends. I often had a spare seat beside me at school, where a spirit friend would be sitting, although others could not see them. Around the age of 10, I no longer saw these spirits, they told me they were going to other schools where in fact the spirit world realized I was being teased for ‘seeing things’ and decided to leave me for a while until I was ready to accept them again.
It was after my dad died when I was 28 years old, that my spirit started to return to me. I began to study massage and aromatherapy and I realized that my messages were deeper and more than just on a physical level, also went deeper into healing emotions too. My daughter as a baby had a very painful and sore thrush. The doctor said he’d not seen such a bad case for a long while (turns out she had an egg allergy). I held my hands over her body and asked for the rash to be taken away.
The next day when the doctor called back to see how things were, he was completely surprised to see that her skin was perfectly smooth and clear. I told him of my thoughts on healing and he was skeptical but open to the idea. Over time I believe healing comes from wanting things to be different. Negative thoughts unattended and ignored may turn to physical problems. We are usually more inclined to look for help with a physical problem rather than search for the cause and heal beforehand.
What therapies do you offer?
I began with Swedish Massage as my main therapy, but after 20 years my hands began to suffer from the repetitive strain and pressure of the treatment. I made the decision to completely stop this heavy physical treatment as more of my spiritual work was taking over. I had to listen to my calling as my hands were often so painful. Rather than just carry on, I listened. Reflexology is also a part of the therapies I offer. I still connect with the Aromatherapy Oils.
Crystal Healing is my big passion. I have been a practitioner using Crystals since 2000 and have since written my own practitioner course and offered this to students. My big dream was to teach at a retreat – this is happening next week!
Sound Therapy using Gongs and other percussion instruments is a wonderful way for people to relax and let the vibrations heal their minds and body. I run regular Gong Baths and also teach gongs with a colleague, Emrys Skye. We feel Sound is the new Yoga.
Reiki is a big part of my healing world too. Offering teaching at all levels for others to become practitioners and for them to be able to work on their own journey.
Readings are also part of my work. Using Tarot cards to help people to change their thoughts to enable their futures to find their place. I also teach Tarot. Clairvoyant messages also come through during a reading.
What is Auricfield Tuning?
Tuning Forks are a way to bring vibrations directly to the body. Auricfield Tuning is a therapy I have written and teach to students at the practitioner level. For a private session, this therapy can release triggers from your past to enable you to move forward.
People often repeat patterns they learn throughout their lives, but these often no longer serve them. It is such a life-changing therapy as you no longer react to past behaviors, you move forward into the new, free of these past burdens. I have had incredible successes with this therapy. It is an interactive session lasting around 90 minutes ending with a wonderful sound bath.
What can a person expect from your healing sessions?
On my website, people can make their choice from Sound, Crystals, and Reiki, but I always tailor the sessions to perfectly suit their needs on the day. People often choose what is familiar or known to them. I feel a bespoke session works best using a combination of modalities for the greatest results.
During the consultation, I listen to how the client is expressing how they are feeling. One of my greatest skills is hearing the how behind what they are actually saying. Pointing out the obvious often helps them to realize how much they can actually help themselves to move forward, I am just the facilitator.
Laying comfortably on the therapy couch, the session will begin with a meditation to help them to focus away from their day-to-day world, then the healing can begin. Usually lasting around 50 minutes before bringing them back into the here and now. I often give my clients ‘homework’ to do, helping them to focus on what is important over the next few weeks. A gift of a crystal too.
What is the most important detail in maintaining a relationship of mutual trust with customers?
Honesty is the most important aspect of healing work. I am known for my upfront approach and for pointing out the obvious. I like to keep the sessions light and offer ways to help them heal themselves. Confidentiality is a big must. I often see members from the same family and feel it is important not to share anything that is said between them. I make it clear that my clients can contact me for support. With technology today, it is very easy to write a request that I can answer once I am available. People often prefer to write their thoughts down too rather than actual phone to talk.
What do you love most about your profession?
I feel very blessed that I work in a profession that I am so passionate about. I have a high percentage of clients who go on to become students signing up for my courses. This accelerates their healing journey too. Helping them to make career choices to change from jobs that they are not happy in or feel valued for. “Change your thoughts, change your life.”
People often come to me when they are at a crossroads in their lives and to offer them relaxation and motivation for change is wonderful.
I have recently been involved in local council schemes such as GoDigital and ETip which help small businesses to be more aware of using social media and technology. Part of this involved getting Google reviews to promote my work. I sent requests out and was so overwhelmed and blessed with the responses from clients saying how much they valued my work.
Helping others – that’s what I love the most.
