This week, we had the opportunity to speak with Alecia Tanton, a Tarot Reader who kindly agreed to share some information about the development of her career, the most requested types of reading, and what is the best part of her job.
What inspired you to start your Tarot Reading business, and how did your career develop?
I’ve always been connected with the metaphysical world since I was a young child. So naturally, I was interested in learning and practicing as many forms of divination as I could get my hands on. However, once I found my Tarot deck it was an insistent connection. I started to do readings on anyone that world let me (even if they didn’t believe in the cards). I also started to do my own readings on a daily and continued to grow and strengthen my bond with my cards. Eventually, my friends didn’t want their readings done as frequently and that’s when I decided I wanted to try and bring my cards to others.
My career developed slowly, Unfortunately, I made these decisions right before Covid halted the world. Like most, I started to use Zoom with my clients, which wasn’t ideal but worked for the time being. Now that the restrictions are being lifted more and more each week I’ve been getting more inquiries and started doing in-person readings again!
What is the most popular type of reading that customers are looking for? What are the most common concerns that interest them?
I Mainly do general readings. Which allows the cards to give unrestricted messages and insight for my clients. If they do have a specific topic it’s normally about their love life or career path.
Are some types of readings more demanding or difficult than others?
Yes! Not all readings bring good news, and when I must relay a difficult or emotional message it impacts my emotional state alongside my clients.
What is the most important detail in maintaining a relationship of mutual trust with customers?
Admitting when a message is unclear. When dealing with the spiritual realm the messages aren’t normally given to you in full clear sentences, They are feels, smells, noises, colors, etc. So my job is to interpret those messages based on the card and additional sensations I feel. Spirits also like to withhold information if they do not believe it is the right time. So being honest that there is something being withheld or coming through unclearly. Honesty builds trust in any relationship
In this field, it is often thought that word-of-mouth and personal recommendations are the most important when picking a Tarot Reader – is this true?
Yes and no. The word of mouth can be very limiting at times. Not everyone who would like to have their reading done would be allowed to express these wants with friends or family. So in that regard, it’s easier for them to find me through social media or my website. On the other hand, the word of mouth has helped me reach new clients and give others a better understanding of what I do.
What is the best part of your job?
The best part is when I can give someone comfort that they are on the right path or be able to help guide them on a better path.
