Today we had the pleasure of interviewing Kathleen Swinbourne – a psychic medium, yoga teacher, and spiritual enthusiast. We spoke about the development of her psychic gifts and the details of her psychic reading sessions.
When did you first realize that you have a psychic gift and how did your career develop?
When I was little, probably age five or six, I would say things to my mom or siblings, things I had no way of knowing. I never really did anything with it. I was told when I was thirteen by a friend’s mom that she sees angels all around me. She asked me if I knew I was psychic, and I looked at her as if she was crazy.
But, she offered to teach me meditation and visualization techniques. It helped me feel really relaxed, so I kept doing these things my entire life, up until now and I will continue. At age twenty-two I went to Kripalu, I definitely saw spirits, particularly at night. My guide presented himself to me – that was an intense moment in my life, different than what I have ever experienced.
From twenty-two to thirty-five I just kept picking up everything, feeling exhausted by feeling and perceiving the things outside of the human level. At age thirty-five I started taking things more seriously and I went to clairvoyant school for about seven years. After that, I started doing readings for my friends, and by word of mouth, I soon became very busy.
What is the most popular type of reading that customers are looking for and what are the most common concerns that interest them?
I would say that people most commonly want to know about love. Who is the person they are going to end up with, or if the person that they are with is the one for them?
Are some types of psychic readings more demanding or difficult than others?
If someone constantly tries to converse with me during the reading it becomes more challenging. Basically, I am channeling the energy, and I need to stay more in the clear non-analytical space. I can only give information, not do the work for you.
In this field, it is often thought that word of mouth and personal recommendations are the most important when picking a psychic reader. Do you think that this is true or not?
It is one hundred percent true. Actually, let me correct myself, it is around ninety-eight percent true. Sometimes people connect with me through an advertisement, at a place where I do readings, a metaphysical store, or they stumble upon my website. But other than that, it’s all been word of mouth.
What is the most important detail of maintaining a relationship of mutual trust with your customers?
The most important things are being a compassionate, authentic listener, responding to specific questions, doing your work with integrity so that there is no personal energy of mine coming through.
What do you love most about your job?
I love hearing people’s stories. Being a listener of people’s stories, and having them have a chance to talk about themselves openly is what makes me love what I do.
